Gantz: It's Time to Change the Middle East - Jordan News

Jordan News17-04-2025

Gantz: It's Time to Change the Middle East Israeli opposition leader and head of the National Unity Party, Benny Gantz, stated that the time has come to change the Middle East in coordination with what he called "our great ally," the United States. His remarks followed a news report confirming that Israel had planned to strike Iranian nuclear sites next month, but former U.S. President Donald Trump intervened to stop the operation. اضافة اعلان In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Gantz described the Iranian regime as "an expert in buying time and procrastination," asserting that Israel is capable of attacking Iran and has the ability to do so. He added that Israel and the United States must rally their strength to bring about change in the Middle East. Israeli Plan Revealed The New York Times reported, citing officials and informed sources, that Israel was preparing to strike Iranian nuclear sites in May, but Trump prevented the move, opting instead to pursue a negotiated agreement with Tehran aimed at curbing its nuclear program. According to the American newspaper, Israeli officials were optimistic about securing approval from the White House and had drawn up attack plans for May. The paper also reported that Trump administration officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance, argued—supported by others—that Trump had a unique opportunity to reach a deal with Iran. Vance stated that if negotiations failed, Trump might support an Israeli military strike on Tehran. The New York Times also quoted a well-informed source saying that U.S. intelligence chief John Ratcliffe met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad Director David Barnea in Israel to discuss options for dealing with Iran, including covert operations with U.S. backing and the imposition of stricter sanctions. IAEA Warning Meanwhile, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warned against attacking Iranian nuclear facilities. After meeting Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran yesterday, Grossi stated: 'We have been very, very clear that attacks on nuclear facilities are unacceptable and only worsen the situation.' He pointed to the potential radioactive and environmental consequences of such strikes, as well as the risk of triggering a full-scale war. Diplomacy Not Ruled Out Although Trump favors negotiations and is working toward an agreement with Iran on its nuclear program, he has not ruled out military action if diplomatic efforts fail. The first round of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran was held last Saturday in Muscat, Oman, with a second round scheduled for next Saturday, where Abbas Araghchi and Steve Witkoff, the U.S. president's envoy, are expected to meet again.

France opens genocide complicity investigations over Gaza aid blockade

French anti-terror authorities have opened two investigations into allegations of genocide-related crimes, following accusations that French-"Israeli" nationals participated in efforts to obstruct humanitarian aid destined for Gaza earlier this year. According to France's national anti-terror prosecutor's office (PNAT), the probes are centered on possible "complicity in genocide," "incitement to genocide," and "complicity in crimes against humanity" between January and May 2024. These mark the first known French criminal inquiries into potential violations of international law linked to the war in Gaza. The investigations were triggered by two separate legal complaints. One was filed in November by the Jewish French Union for Peace and a French-Palestinian victim, targeting individuals allegedly tied to hardline pro-"Israel" groups "Israel is forever" and "Tzav-9." The complaint claims they physically blocked trucks carrying humanitarian aid at "Israeli" border checkpoints. Lawyers representing the plaintiffs expressed relief at the decision to move forward with a probe. 'We are pleased that the events from January 2024 are now being scrutinized — a time when no one wanted to hear anything about genocide,' said attorneys Damia Taharraoui and Marion Lafouge. Sources close to the case said the incidents in question occurred at the Nitzana and Karam Abu Salem crossings, where demonstrators, including relatives of "Israeli" captives, reportedly forced aid trucks to turn back. A second complaint, filed by the group Lawyers for Justice in the Middle East (CAPJO), presented videos, photos, and public statements as evidence against the same individuals. In a separate case made public the same day, the grandmother of two French children killed in an "Israeli" airstrike in Gaza submitted a legal complaint to the Paris court, accusing "Israel" of genocide and murder. The strike reportedly took the lives of 6-year-old Janna and 9-year-old Abderrahim Abudaher on Oct. 24, 2023. 'We believe these children are dead as part of a deliberate organised policy targeting the whole of Gaza's population with a possible genocidal intent,' said the family's lawyer, Arie Alimi. The children's younger brother, Omar, was severely injured and remains in Gaza under the care of their mother. Although filed against unnamed parties, the grandmother's complaint directly accuses "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his government, and the military. Notably, the children's mother, a French citizen, was convicted in absentia in 2019 for allegedly funding terrorism through donations to Hamas and Islamic Jihad members. While no court has officially labeled the conflict as genocide, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has repeatedly instructed the Israeli Occupation to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and to avoid actions that could amount to genocide. Despite this, UN agencies report that the entire population of Gaza remains at risk of famine. Tensions have further escalated over reports that Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) fired on Palestinians attempting to collect food from a US-backed aid distribution point, prompting backlash and leading several international NGOs and the UN to distance themselves from the operation. Concerns have been raised that the aid program is shaped to align with IOF goals. Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity. A similar case against Hamas commander Mohammed Deif was dropped in February after it was confirmed he had been killed.

Breakup timeline: Trump, Musk's political bromance implodes

A once-warm relationship between US President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk dramatically unraveled Thursday in a fiery online clash that played out minute-by-minute across social media and the White House. It all began with Trump's reaction to Musk's criticism of a controversial tax and spending bill championed by the former president. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said, "Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore. I was surprised." Musk had previously blasted the bill on X, calling it a "disgusting abomination." Trump, seemingly caught off guard, expressed disappointment, "I'm very disappointed, because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here... All of a sudden, he had a problem." That comment triggered an immediate rebuttal from Musk, who took to X around noon to respond, "ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill... Either you get a big and ugly bill or a slim and beautiful bill. Slim and beautiful is the way." Whatever. Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill. In the entire history of civilization, there has never been legislation that both big and beautiful.… — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 Just minutes later, Musk escalated the dispute, denying Trump's claim that he was closely involved in crafting the legislation, "False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!" False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 Then, in a post dripping with frustration and bravado, Musk claimed credit for Trump's 2024 victory, "Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate." He added, "Such ingratitude." Such ingratitude — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 The tone shifted again when Musk floated a more radical idea, "Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?" The post was pinned to the top of his timeline. Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle? — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 Trump, clearly infuriated, fired back on his Truth Social account, threatening to cut off federal support for Musk's businesses, "The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!" Estimates from US media suggest Musk's companies have received around USD 18 billion in government contracts. The president's remarks struck a nerve, and Musk responded just over 30 minutes later with a bombshell accusation tied to one of America's darkest scandals,"Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!" Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 Trump, still at the White House, responded by defending the bill that sparked the entire fallout, "I don't mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago. This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress." "In light of the President's statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately," Musk then posted. In light of the President's statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 The Dragon spacecraft is central to NASA's human spaceflight program, currently the only certified US vehicle capable of carrying astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) under a multibillion-dollar agreement. Hours later, in a puzzling follow-up, Musk responded to a user on X saying, "OK, we won't decommission Dragon," though his tone left observers unclear on whether he was serious or backpedaling. Good advice. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 6, 2025 The extraordinary exchange left political analysts stunned and observers questioning whether the split between Trump and Musk marks a deeper fracture within America's political and tech elite. Whether this feud cools off or ignites further remains to be seen.
