Fears for missing Scots schoolgirl believed to have boarded train to England
Police are urgently seeking information to help find 13-year-old Ava Stewart from Kilmarnock. Fears are growing for a missing 13-year-old girl who may have travelled to England alone after she boarded a train from a Scots train station. Ava Stewart from Kilmarnock was last seen at around 1.35pm on Friday, June 6, at Glasgow Central Station. Following enquiries, officers believe she may now be in Birmingham. Ava is described as slim, around 4ft 11in tall, with long brown hair. When last seen, she was wearing white tracksuit bottoms, a grey crop top, a blue denim jacket, and blue and cream Nike Air Jordan trainers. She also has a lip and nose piercing, as well as a distinctive coloboma feature in her left eye. Police believe they have found the body of Yajaira Castro Mendez, 46, from Ilford, east London, after she was reported missing on May 31. Cops have also charged a man - Juan Toledo, 51 - with Yajaira's murder. He appeared at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Friday and was remanded into custody. Detective Inspector Jay Gregory, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a very sad development in the investigation and our thoughts are very much with Yajaira's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time." Skye, 13, was last seen around 9.20pm on Sunday, June 1, wearing a black jumper, dark blue jeans, and blue and white trainers in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, cops said. In a statement posted on X today, Hertfordshire Police said Skye is 5ft 3in tall, slim, and has long brown hair. A spokesperson for the force said the appeal had been launched due to "increasing concerns" for Skye's welfare. They explained: "Officers have been making enquiries and carrying out searches at various addresses to trace her since she was reported missing and are now releasing a public appeal, due to increasing concerns for her welfare."
