Marlins recover to outlast Giants in 10 innings for third win in a row
Rookie Heriberto Hernandez drove in four runs, including two on a double in the four-run 10th, helping the visiting Miami Marlins to an 8-5 win against the San Francisco Giants in the middle game of a three-game series on Wednesday.
Hernandez gave the Marlins a 4-2 lead with a two-out, two-run single in the eighth. After the Giants tied it in the ninth, he came through again in the 10th.
Otto Lopez had three hits and three RBI, and Agustin Ramirez had two hits and scored twice for Miami, which has won three in a row to match its longest winning streak of the season. The Marlins also secured a series victory and will go for a sweep on Thursday.
Miami starter Edward Cabrera surrendered two runs and three hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out six and walking three.
Mike Yastrzemski homered and Heliot Ramos had two hits and an RBI for the Giants, who had won two of three.
Giants right-hander Logan Webb couldn't win a third straight start after allowing two runs and six hits in six innings. He struck out six and walked three.
Lopez gave the Marlins a 5-4 lead in the 10th with a soft single to center off San Francisco closer Camilo Doval (3-2), scoring automatic runner Nick Fortes from second.
Hernandez then doubled into the left-center-field gap to make it 7-4. He continued to third on the throw home and scored on a sacrifice fly by Connor Norby to increase the advantage to 8-4.
Ramos had an RBI single in the 10th for the Giants to make it 8-5.
Yastrzemski led off the first by pulling a low fastball off the right field foul pole to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.
Miami's Kyle Stowers doubled with one out in the fourth to put runners on second and third. Lopez then hit a line drive that rolled to the wall in the left-center-field gap, scoring two runs to give the Marlins a 2-1 lead.
Christian Koss tied the score 2-2 with a sacrifice fly to center in the fifth.
Liam Hicks hit a grounder just inside the first base line to put Marlins runners on second and third with no outs in the eighth. Tyler Rogers got the next two batters out with no damage, but Hernandez reached out and lined a two-run single to center to give the Marlins a 4-2 lead.
Marlins closer Calvin Faucher (3-2) hit Dominic Smith and Casey Schmitt with pitches to start the ninth and then walked Jung Hoo Lee to load the bases.
Willy Adames flied out to the wall in left to score Smith and cut the deficit to 4-3. The other two runners also moved up on the play, and Patrick Bailey then lined a single to left, scoring Schmitt with the run, but Lee was thrown out at the plate by Stowers.

Texas A&M junior will transfer to Oregon for her senior season
A few weeks after entering the college softball transfer portal, Texas A&M utility player Amari Harper is heading back to the west coast to finish her senior season with the Oregon Ducks. Her decision came as a surprise to Aggie fans, especially following the strong season the team had and Coach Trisha Ford's comments naming Harper as a key piece for the 2026 squad. Despite breaking a finger and wearing a splint all season, Harper battled her way back into the lineup and consistently delivered timely hits. Her versatility in both the infield and outfield gave Coach Ford the flexibility to adjust the lineup when the offense began to struggle. The move to Oregon makes sense for Harper, a California native, as it allows her to play for a competitive team closer to home, where friends and family can easily attend games. She leaves Texas A&M with an impressive career slash line of .364/.471/.512, along with nine home runs and 85 RBI. Check out her official announcement on X below. Mark Vientos Makes Honest Admission After Mets News
Mark Vientos Makes Honest Admission After Mets News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Mets have shown recently that although they're just a half-game out of first place, they still need all the help they can get. They're 2-8 in their last 10 contests and have lost three straight series heading into Thursday night's bout with the Atlanta Braves. Advertisement That's why they need third baseman Mark Vientos (hamstring) to be healthy. The 25-year-old who's slashing .230/.298/.380 with six homers and 21 RBI over 53 games this season, hasn't played since June 2. If he gets back to his 2024 form, he could push New York over the top. Vientos slashed .266/.322/.516 over 111 regular season contests before slashing .327/.362/.636 with five homers and 14 RBI over 13 playoff games last year. Mixing that level of production with Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor in the lineup can only mean good things. Vientos revealed how he's feeling before Thursday's game, via SNY. New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos (27).Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports "I feel like there's always a trend with me [starting slow] in first halfs [of the season] throughout my career," the veteran admitted. "It's a good thing that it's a long season, that's why when they say change 162 games I'm the one that says 'no, I want all those games.' Second half is just as big as the first half." Advertisement He also confirmed that he'll be activated on Friday. Right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning (7-3, 3.91 ERA) will start for New York on Thursday against Atlanta right-hander Grant Holmes (4-6 3.71 ERA). The Mets will then start a road series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. before hosting the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees. Barry Bonds will be getting a statue outside the Giants' ballpark, team CEO says
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Barry Bonds will be getting a statue outside the San Francisco Giants' home stadium where he set baseball's career home run record, the team's CEO said Thursday. Giants President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Baer was asked during a radio interview about a statue for Bonds, and he responded that it was 'on the radar." But Baer didn't have any details of when that would happen. Advertisement 'Barry is certainly deserving of a statue, and I would say should be next up,' Baer said during an appearance on San Francisco's 95.7 The Game. 'We don't have the exact location and the exact date and the exact timing. ... It's coming. All I can say is it's coming.' Bonds played for San Francisco the last 15 of his 22 big league seasons, hitting 586 of his 762 homers while with the Giants from 1993-2007. He set the single-season MLB record with 73 homers in 2001, and hit his record-breaking 756th homer to pass Hank Aaron in a home game off Washington's Mike Bacsik on Aug. 7, 2007. There are currently five statues outside Oracle Park, those of Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry and Orlando Cepeda. The Giants retired Bonds' No. 25 jersey in 2018. Bonds, a seven-time MVP and 14-time All-Star, is not in the Hall of Fame. He failed to reach the 75% threshold required during his 10 years on the Baseball Writers Association of America's Hall of Fame ballot, mostly because of steroids allegations that dogged him during his final years with the Giants. The Contemporary Player Committee also passed on electing Bonds in 2022, though the committee could reconsider Bonds' status. ___ AP MLB: The Associated Press
