Paddleboarder's food poisoning 'nightmare' during 25 hours at sea
He recorded a video from inside the tent explaining his ordeal. In it, he said: "It was a nightmare the whole trip from start to finish."I wish I could say something else, but I think I got food poisoning or something. "I had my first meal, I wolfed half of it and it made me feel really sick straight away."
The adventurer said his condition became "worse and worse" during the journey. He was forced to urinate into his wetsuit and said he was too weak to change into a warmer drysuit during his night at sea."I just kept wanting to sleep," he said. "I was just shutting down the whole time."I tried to wake myself up, slap myself in the face, dunk myself in the water."I was so faint because I couldn't get anything in my stomach and so I didn't have any energy."The entire journey I've done on some rotten flesh, one digestive biscuit and water."
Biggest endurance challenge
Mr Head's challenge is believed to be the first ever stand-up paddleboard journey between Shetland and Orkney. He set off from East Voe in Scalloway at 21:00 on Monday. His specialised paddleboard allowed him to carry bags of supplies including military-style rations, water, a first aid kit and spare clothes. The journey came after weather conditions forced Mr Head to cancel a separate planned crossing between Scotland and the Faroe Islands.Speaking to BBC Radio Shetland before his departure, he said: "The biggest challenge here is the endurance of it and managing myself. "Doing all of that while also keeping an eye on shipping, the changing of tides, and the changing of weather."Mr Head previously circumnavigated the UK on his paddleboard and has attempted to paddle the Rio Marañón, the Amazon River's main source. He was raising money for Marine Conservation Organisation Sea Shepherd.

Historic sea fort built to defend from French listed to sell for £1.5m & boasts nightclub, spa, and luxury rooms
A SEA fort build to defend Britain from French warships is on the market for £1.5 million. The more than 160-year-old Victorian island fort offers a luxury lifestyle, including a nightclub and a spa for the eventual buyer. 8 8 8 No Man's Land Fort can be found sat between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, offering a reclusive getaway on the Solent. It's such a classically British setting that an episode of Doctor Who was once filmed at the site. The 99,000 square foot setting is open for new owners, boasting 23 bedrooms and a helipad. It features five bars and a restaurant, as well as a "huge scope for conversion", according to the estate agent Colliers. Their website reads: "The Solent Forts date back over 160 years when fear of invasion by the French led by Napoleon III resulted in the commissioning of these sea-based defences by British Prime Minister Lord Palmerston. "With 15ft granite walls and armour plating, these magnificent structures are testament to the skill of Victorian engineering." But if the property's maritime history isn't enough for a prospective buyer, its sci-fi credentials might sway them. The fort was used as a shooting location for the classic Doctor Who story The Sea Devils, which featured Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor. It also boasts a nightclub, pub and spa area in the exclusive location. Once upon a time, the fort was a four-star hotel, and was taken at auction earlier this year for £1.25million as an "impulse buy". Britain's newest & biggest warship HMS Prince of Wales to defy furious China and sail through Taiwan Strait Ed Jefferson, from Colliers Hotels team, told the MailOnline it offers a "rare opportunity to make a mark in a truly unique location". He added: "The remote location provides either great privacy or exclusivity for potential guests and clients. "It could be a great location for multiple hospitality and leisure operators together, or one tenant could take the whole site, we're open to proposals." The listing further says that "planning has been obtained to construct a breakwater and harbour to improve boat water access". The property was lavishly refurbished in 2015, with nearly £8million spent on the property as well as nearby Spitbank Fort. It can be found just minutes away from the Gunwharf Quays shopping centre on the waterfront in Portsmouth. The 23-bedroom floating mansion was previously on sale for £4.25million back in 2021. It was built in the 1860s by ex-Prime Minister Lord Palmerston to act as a line of defence for the British isles. 8 8 8 8

Wales ready to prove a point on world stage
Women's Rugby World Cup 2025: Scotland v WalesVenue: Salford Community Stadium Date: Saturday, 23 August Kick-off: 14:45 BSTCoverage: Live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport Online & app, Radio Wales, Radio Cymru and BBC Sounds Co-captain Kate Williams says Wales are ready to prove a point when they take on Scotland at the Rugby World retained the Wooden Spoon at this year's Women's Six Nations, losing all five games for the first time in their after a full pre-season and a drawn two-Test tour of Australia under head coach Sean Lynn, Williams says her side are ready to show what they can do on the biggest stage of all."Scotland will be a good Test for us, but we're also bringing in so much confidence and belief from the team that we've become in this last year," said the back rower. "We want to be a hard team to beat, we want the opposition to think 'we've got Wales next, that's going to be a massive test for us'."We also want to play with passion, play with heart and play with confidence." Scotland have won the last three meetings against Wales, the most recent a nail-biting 24-21 victory in Edinburgh."I know that the recent results have proven that Scotland have had the upper hand over us, but if we take context into it, we only had two days with Lynny before we were playing in the Six Nations, I think we're a different team now," said 25-year-old credits a higher intensity in training for their progress, which included a historic win against Australia in Brisbane last month. "It's not just two hand touch, we're putting in shots, we're doing full contact in those sessions, a full 15 on 15," she said."It's where we can really test our attack, test our defence and it's where we're drawing massive confidence from."What a privilege to be in a team where every single jersey has two or three potential people that Lynny has to pick from." Lynn welcomes the competitiveness in his 32-player squad, admitting he had some selection headaches before naming his team for Saturday's opener."That's where we're at at the moment, it's really nice the competitiveness that we've got in the squad," he said. "Today it got a little bit spicy in training and that's how I think it should be. "We're in a World Cup and it's the biggest World Cup, so it's really exciting and the girls are just thriving on it."While Lynn said there is still more to come from his side, he believes they have made progress in the collision area over the summer, with Ben Flower coming into his backroom staff. "We're on the right track, I set targets after the Six Nations to the players, they went away and have come back in better shape," Lynn said."The big emphasis is making sure that we can play with the intensity that I want us to."I've been driving scenarios into the girls... hopefully there will be some scenarios on Saturday that we've done already and fingers crossed we will come out on top."

I stayed at the pretty rural retreat named the best spa hotel in the UK
THE award-winning Gailes Hotel and Spa is the flagship hotel within the family owned SimpsInns group based in Ayrshire. Framed by the stunning coastal landscapes of Scotland, The Gailes is the ideal place to take a relaxing break, or enjoy the world famous golf courses. 2 Here's everything you need to know about the hotel, from how much rooms cost to what to eat at the restaurant. Where is the hotel? Found at the heart of Ayrshire, the luxurious hotel & spa is isolated by nature, the penthouse overlooking the Isle of Arran. A 17 minute drive from Ardrossan South Beach Rail station, the hotel is almost completely rural. It's perched on the secluded West coast of Scotland, providing an escape from urban reality. It was even named the Boutique Spa Hotel of the Year earlier this year. What is the hotel like? Just 40 minutes from Glasgow in the town of Irvine, this tranquil hotel is an ideal dog-friendly escape in the countryside. The main draw is its onsite Si! spa. It comes with an outdoor jacuzzi, thermal suite with sauna, steam room and hot pools. There are also treatment rooms offering soothing massages. What are the rooms like? They are kitted out with grey-scale furnishings that give them a sleek and modern feel. Ours had a lovely view of the pond and fountain, all set against a lush golf course. The hotel offers a variety of rooms ranging from Suites to standard rooms. Double rooms cost from £125 per night on a B&B basis. Book here. What is there to eat and drink there? The hotel's Coast restaurant is worth a visit. Decor is nautical themed, with naval maps and fishing rope adorning the ceilings. Although the seafood options were surprisingly slim. Go for the haggis pakora if you like meat - definitely a treat. My main of salmon with chorizo, potato, spinach and paprika was delicious, but the dessert was the real star of the show. A generous helping of raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake served with Arran ice cream. The Terrace At Si! is also a nice spot, just a ten-minute cab ride into Irvine and run by the same group. If you pop in, make sure you try an espresso martini made by the delightful Gio. What else is there to do at the hotel? There are lots of coastal trails nearby for walking the pooch. You can also reach the Isle of Arran (home to a distillery, castles and more scenic walks) in just under two hours by taking the ferry. The Gailes has something for everyone. It's home to some of the world's best links courses, with features such as toptracer and golfing activities for all ages nearby. There's also Junior golf training as well as PGA coaching. Is the hotel family friendly? Yes the hotel is family friendly. There are rooms available with additional space and bed options, making a comfortable stay possible for all the family. Additionally, a flatscreen TV is provided in every family room. Select dog friendly rooms are also available, so that the whole family can enjoy your the stay. There are dedicated spaces on the hotel grounds just for pets. Is there access for guests with disabilities? Yes, the hotel is accessible, providing level access and accessibility parking.
