Damian Lillard, nine-time NBA All-Star, returns to Portland Trail Blazers and becomes General Manager of Weber State University's men's basketball program.
Damian Lillard is going back to his roots in more ways than one. The nine-time NBA All-Star, who recently returned to the Portland Trail Blazers, has officially taken on a new role as the general manager of the men's basketball program at his alma mater, Weber State University.
Lillard, 35, made the announcement Saturday night at the Weber State Basketball Alumni Classic in Ogden, Utah, where his legacy as a Wildcat began more than a decade ago.
Speaking at Swenson Gym to a crowd of Weber State supporters and alumni, Lillard explained why the opportunity to take on a leadership role in the program meant so much to him.

'My relationship with Coach [Eric] Duft and this program means a lot to me, and seeing the success of the program means a lot to me," Lillard said, according to the Standard-Examiner.
'I feel like I can do a lot to help the program be successful, to help the players even individually continue to grow their careers past college. That's something that I'm passionate about."
A New Chapter Off the Court
Lillard is expected to miss the entire 2025–26 NBA season as he recovers from a torn left Achilles tendon sustained during the Milwaukee Bucks' playoff run on April 27. He was waived by the Bucks after the season and re-signed with Portland on a reported three-year, $42 million contract.
While sidelined from NBA play, Lillard sees this position at Weber State as a way to stay close to the game while giving back to the community and program that helped launch his career.
From Weber Star to NBA Icon
Drafted sixth overall by Portland in 2012, Lillard went on to become one of the most respected and dynamic point guards in the NBA. His loyalty to both the Blazers and Weber State has remained unwavering.
Lillard's connection to Weber State has only deepened since his playing days. He returned to graduate in 2015, had his No. 1 jersey retired in 2017, and was later inducted into the school's athletics hall of fame in 2021 and the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame in 2022.

"Disappointed" - Trae Young left waiting as Atlanta Hawks' silence on extension sparks NBA outrage (Image Source: Getty Images) Ever since Trae Young joined the NBA , the Atlanta Hawks point guard has been a vital player for the team. Famous for his precise shooting and court leadership, he has usually been seen as the franchise's face. Many players have been given extensions or long-term agreements as free agency discussions get increasingly intense throughout the league. Unlike others, one name is drawing attention — not for a deal, but for the lack of one. The Atlanta Hawks have yet to offer contract extension to star guard Trae Young On August 5, veteran NBA reporter Marc J. Spears revealed that the Atlanta Hawks have still not offered Trae Young a contract extension. This news was first shared on The Hoop Collective podcast and later cited by @TheDunkCentral on X. Trae Young, who was drafted by the Hawks in 2018 and became a two-time All-Star, is reportedly unhappy with the current situation. Spears said, 'He's disappointed that it hasn't come,' referring to the absence of a new deal. Young still has two years remaining on his current contract, but most stars of his level usually get approached for an extension earlier. The 26-year-old has averaged over 25 points and 9 assists per game over the last three seasons and led Atlanta to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo Despite his performance, the front office has remained quiet on talks for the future. No official statement has been released by the Hawks so far. The gap between Trae Young's hopes and the Atlanta Hawks' actions The update from Spears comes during a quiet offseason for Atlanta, which finished 10th in the Eastern Conference last season and lost in the play-in tournament. The team is currently focused on improving its roster around Trae Young, but contract talks seem to have taken a back seat. According to Marc J. Spears, who spoke on August 4, Young's camp was expecting a signal of commitment from the franchise by now. He added, 'Trae wants to feel wanted. He's given a lot to Atlanta, and he's just waiting for them to show the same in return.' Sources with close team contacts claim no significant contract extension conversations have yet taken place. Young's present agreement will expire in the 2026–27 season, thus the summer of 2025 is a perfect starting point for negotiations.
