Four suspects arrested in multi-state paint vandalism cases
PETALING JAYA: Authorities in Penang have reportedly resolved dozens of paint vandalism incidents across three northern states with the apprehension of four individuals.
Penang police chief, Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, revealed that law enforcement divisions from Penang and Perak conducted a joint operation targeting illegal money-lending organizations yesterday.
According to officials, these syndicates were responsible for numerous acts of property defacement involving paint thrown at residences throughout the region.
'Our team successfully detained four males, ranging from 34 to 42 years of age, during independent raids conducted across the state yesterday,' he said in a statement today.
'These individuals are believed to be key participants in criminal damage cases connected to unauthorised lending operations involving both domestic and internet-based organizations.
'When questioned, the suspects admitted to participating in 33 separate paint vandalism incidents throughout Penang, Perak, and Kedah,' he stated.
Hamzah noted that examination of confiscated devices revealed evidence linking them to numerous locations where paint had been thrown at properties.
Evidence collected during the operation included a vehicle, communication devices, electronic payment cards, threatening messages, counterfeit license plates, facial coverings, red paint containers, and solvent materials.
Investigators are pursuing charges under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
Authorities encourage citizens experiencing harassment or receiving threats from illegal lenders to file official complaints to facilitate proper legal action.

SHAH ALAM: The policeman accused of murdering Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah, whose body was found in an oil palm plantation last year, pleaded not guilty to the charge in the High Court here today. Lance Corporal Muhammad Alif Monjani, 27, entered the plea before judge Julia Ibrahim, who set July 15 for mention. He was first charged with murdering the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris student on July 26, 2024, at the Kuala Kubu Baru magistrate's court and on May 28, the case was transferred to the Shah Alam High Court for trial. Civil servant loses RM13,000 to scammers
KOTA KINABALU: A civil servant lost RM13,000 in savings after he was believed to have been scammed by imposters. The victim, who is in his 30s, was said to have received a call from someone claiming to be an official from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and later, a policeman for spreading fake news on investments, job offers and gambling. Ranau OCPD Supt Mursalin Mahmud said the victim allegedly got the calls on May 27, first from someone claiming to be an MCMC officer. 'The caller claimed that his (victim) phone number was involved in the dissemination of fake messages, and then the call was allegedly reconnected to another individual who claimed to be a policeman from the Perak police headquarters,' he said. After speaking for quite some time, the man was ordered to transfer RM13,000 to a bank account belonging to one Muhammad Azlan, for 'account protection', he said. Supt Mursalin said the victim was also instructed to update photos and personal details every three hours to the 'cop' as a way of reporting himself to the police. 'Later, the victim realised that he had been cheated and lodged a report at the Ranau police station on Tuesday night,' he said. Supt Mursalin said this case is now being probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. He urged the public to keep calm and think rationally when receiving such calls from unknown persons or numbers to avoid getting scammed. He also warned against revealing any personal, banking or identification information through the phone, and to not carry out any monetary transactions online or via telephone. 'Always call back the police station or agencies allegedly involved on their official land-lines to verify any calls or matters,' said Supt Mursalin.

Singaporean to be charged today over viral Johor road rage incident
JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean man arrested over a road rage incident last Saturday, which was caught in a clip that went viral on social media, will be charged in the magistrate's court here today. The 40-year-old is expected to face charges under Section 426 of the Penal Code for mischief, which carries a penalty of up to three months' imprisonment, a fine, or both; and Section 509 for using words or gestures intended to insult another's modesty, an offence punishable by up to five years' jail, a fine, or both. Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh confirmed that the man will be brought to court at 9am. He was arrested at 6.20pm on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the 31-year-old Malaysian BMW driver lodged a police report over the alleged road rage incident, which occurred near Taman Ungku Tun Aminah in Skudai at 2.39pm on June 7. The altercation reportedly began when the suspect, who was driving a Singapore-registered Toyota Altis, allegedly honked repeatedly and tailgated the BMW, seemingly upset about being obstructed. The confrontation escalated when the suspect allegedly exited his vehicle, kicked the BMW and verbally insulted the driver.
