Duo fined for committing mischief
Published on: Tuesday, July 29, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 29, 2025 By: Jo Ann Mool Text Size: Lai was jailed four weeks and fined RM1,000 or two month's jail for damaging the driver's side window of a Toyota Land Cruiser with a knife at 9.40am, on July 17, at Taman Megarial, Luyang. Kota Kinabalu: Two men were fined by the Magistrate's Court here on separate charges of committing mischief. Thomas Lai and Chew Vui Kian pleaded guilty separately before Magistrates Dzul Elmy Yunus and Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence under Section 427 of the Penal Code. Lai was jailed four weeks and fined RM1,000 or two month's jail for damaging the driver's side window of a Toyota Land Cruiser with a knife at 9.40am, on July 17, at Taman Megarial, Luyang. Chew was fined RM1,200 or two months' jail for smashing the glass door of the Good Massage premises at Bataras Hypermarket, Inanam, using a ring spanner at 8.12pm, on July 19, causing RM350 in losses to the owner, Winsal Mursidi. In Lai's case, the court heard from the prosecution that the accused committed the offence on the vehicle after being dissatisfied with a court order delivered by the complainant's lawyer, requiring him to vacate a house. Lai approached the vehicle with a knife and stabbed its driver-side window, causing damage of about RM1,000. Unrepresented, Lai requested to be allowed, only to pay a fine saying that he was suffering from stage four nasal cancer, adding that the complainant had come to take back the house. The magistrate told Lai that because there was a court order for the complainant to take the house, he should have challenged it through legal means by hiring a lawyer instead of using a weapon. Lai said he was uneducated and did not know what to do, and claimed the complainant knew how to lodge a police report and had often threatened him before, but he never reported it. The prosecution urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, saying Lai had used a dangerous weapon to intimidate the victim, causing damage and psychological distress. When delivering the sentence, the Magistrate said that, despite Lai's illness and age, using a knife was a serious offence that could have led to more severe consequences. The Magistrate said the court viewed the matter seriously, stressing that even if there was a dispute over the house, Lai should have sought legal redress instead of taking the law into his own hands, especially by using a sharp and dangerous weapon. Meanwhile, in Chew's case, the facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that Chew smashed the glass door of the shop after arguing with his ex-girlfriend, who owns a shop near the complainant's shop. She informed the complainant, who then lodged a police report. Chew was arrested the next day, and police recovered the spanner used. The charge against both Lai and Chew carries a jail term of between one and five years or a fine, or both, on conviction. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Lingenfelter Confirms Twin-Turbo 427ci LT2 in Development with 1,300-HP Potential
⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious Just months after unveiling a naturally aspirated 427-cubic inch (7.0-liter) LT2 V8 upgrade for the C8 Corvette, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) has confirmed development of a twin-turbo version—a monstrous powerplant expected to produce more than 1,100 horsepower at the wheels, or an estimated 1,300 horsepower at the crank. The announcement was made by Brandon Baker, Lingenfelter's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, during a recent interview with Road & Track. He revealed that an early development mule has already accumulated several thousand miles of testing, and the team is waiting for warmer weather to complete final calibration. Based on the LT2 architecture found in the C8 Corvette Stingray and E-Ray, Lingenfelter's 427 upgrade starts at around $30,000, climbing to $35,000 with optional high-performance components including a revised intake manifold, throttle body, and exhaust system. The twin-turbo package, while still awaiting an official price tag, will add a significant cost due to the required upgraded fuel system and additional hardware. Perhaps most notably, the layout of the turbo system is designed to mirror the twin-turbo arrangement found in the upcoming ZR1's flat-plane crank LT7 V8, allowing Lingenfelter to meet its performance targets with just 15 psi of boost—five less than Chevrolet is expected to run in its factory halo car. LPE's naturally aspirated 427 already produces 700 horsepower without forced induction, making it one of the most powerful NA small-blocks in the market. The forthcoming twin-turbo version represents a dramatic leap in performance that will place it firmly in hypercar territory. While no official release date has been announced, the package is generating significant buzz among Corvette enthusiasts and tuning communities alike. Once finalized, the Lingenfelter TT427 is poised to be one of the most extreme and compelling aftermarket performance options available for the C8 platform.

Tangkak murder victim's mum had 'bad feeling' a month before tragedy
TANGKAK: A month before her daughter's death, Fatimah Seman had a premonition that something terrible was going to happen. That feeling became a horrifying reality when her daughter, in her 30s, was found dead in her home at Taman Cahaya near Sungai Mati in Bukit Gambir here earlier this week. 'As a mother, I just had this feeling that my daughter was going to die,' the 67-year-old said through tears when met at her home in Kampung Pengkalan Kota near Durian Chondong here on Wednesday (June 4). ALSO READ: Man remanded for suspected murder and arson Fatimah recalled that her late daughter, the second of four siblings, had called her on Monday (June 2), asking to come to her workplace at an oil palm weighing station to collect rice she had bought from Thailand. 'She seemed fine when we met, and I did not expect anything to happen. "But that night, I told my husband that we would be 'sent' something," she said, adding that her daughter had been married for about two years. She claimed the suspect in her daughter's murder had grown increasingly distant and controlling, even cutting off her contact with the family. Fatimah added that at around 4am on Tuesday (June 3), the suspect allegedly set fire to four vehicles parked outside her home. 'When police arrived at around 11am to investigate the fire, I told them that my daughter could not be contacted and I was afraid for her life,' she said. Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said initial investigations indicated that family issues may have led to the crime. ALSO READ: Woman dies after husband allegedly slits her throat in Johor 'Investigations so far show that the motive for the attack was domestic problems. "The case is still under investigation, and we are identifying witnesses to assist in the case,' he said when contacted. He added that the investigation began on Tuesday after police received a report about several vehicles being allegedly set on fire by the suspect, which eventually led them to uncover the murder. 'Although we believe the murder occurred on Monday, the exact time is still being determined. "The victim was found unconscious and her body, with slash wounds on the throat, was covered with a blanket in the living room. 'We also recovered and seized a blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the incident,' he said. Supt Roslan said the 33-year-old suspect has a criminal record for an offence under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. He also said the unemployed suspect has been remanded for seven days until Tuesday (June 10) to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 435 of the same law for causing mischief by fire. He added that the victim's body has been sent to Hospital Melaka's forensic unit for a post-mortem. Earlier on Wednesday, the suspect, wearing a purple prison uniform, was brought to a Tangkak Magistrate's Court for the remand process. While in the court holding cell, he began reciting religious phrases and screaming so loudly that he could be heard outside the building. Magistrate Lee Kim Keat issued the remand order following an application by the investigating officer from the Tangkak police district headquarters, which only took about 20 minutes before the suspect was taken back in a police truck for further investigation.
