Kim Kardashian Paris Robbery Verdict: 8 out of 10 Suspects Found Guilty

Yahoo23-05-2025

Aomar Aït Khedache, whom prosecutors claimed masterminded the armed robbery of Kim Kardashian in Paris nearly a decade ago, was found guilty of the crime by a Paris court on Friday. Seven men and one woman were found guilty at the conclusion of the trial, according to The New York Times; one defendant was acquitted while another was found guilty but cleared of involvement in the robbery.
In October 2016, robbers dressed as policemen entered a hotel, overpowered a nightwatchman, and used his keys to enter Kardashian's room. After bursting in with guns drawn, they bound her hands and gagged her mouth. They took a box containing approximately $6 million in jewels and Kardashian's $4.5 million wedding ring. They left her locked in a bathroom, absconding with her cell phone and wallet.

Khedache, 69, was unable to speak during the trial because of an illness, according to CNN. The judge wrote the verdict on a screen for him to read.
Those found guilty face sentences of three to eight years, depending on the charge, which ranges from direct involvement in the crime to complicity with it, according to the Times. The sentences were either mostly suspended or entirely suspended because of the defendants' ages, who have been nicknamed the 'grandpa robbers' because they're in their 60s and 70s.
David De Pas, the judge overseeing the trial, acknowledged that the sentences were 'lenient.' But he added, 'You did harm.'
'I am deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case,' Kardashian said in a statement, according to NBC News. 'The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family. While I'll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice, and promoting a fair legal system.'
Kardashian testified as much earlier this month. 'I absolutely did think I was going to die,' she told the court. She also said she didn't immediately understand what was transpiring. 'I didn't get what was happening, and I didn't get it was about my jewelry, even though they specifically asked for my ring,' she said. Once it set in, she told the court she was worried the men would rape her, since she was wearing only a bathrobe, but they didn't.
The incident left her with trauma and a 'phobia of going out,' she said, in the event people 'see me out and know my home was empty.' She added that she's unable to sleep now without knowing she has multiple bodyguards looking out for her.
While in court, Kardashian addressed Khedache, who had sent her a letter after his 2017 arrest. 'I do appreciate the letter for sure,' she said. 'I do appreciate it. I forgive you. But it doesn't change the emotion, the feelings and the trauma and the way my life has changed.'

Macron condemns 'unacceptable' violence during football celebrations

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Sunday "unacceptable" violence during celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League final victory, as he welcomed the triumphant team to the Elysee palace. "Nothing can justify what has happened in the last few hours, the violent clashes are unacceptable," Macron said. "We will pursue, we will punish, we will be relentless," he added before congratulating the players on their win. Two people died and police made nearly 600 arrests across France overnight as fans celebrated PSG's 5-0 triumph over Inter Milan in Munich on Saturday. "The violent clashes that took place are unacceptable and have come at a heavy cost: two people are dead, around 30 police officers and several firefighters have been injured," Macron said. "My thoughts are also with the police officer in Coutances who is currently in a coma," he added, referring to the town in western France where a police officer was struck in the eye by a firework. Macron hosted PSG coach Luis Enrique and his team after their victory parade on the Champs-Elysees avenue, thanking the players for their quick condemnation of the violence. "These isolated acts are contrary to the club's values and in no way represent the vast majority of our supporters, whose exemplary behaviour throughout the season deserves to be commended," the club said Sunday. Macron also congratulated the team for their "sublime" victory over Inter Milan. "You are the champions and you have put Paris at the top of Europe," he said. "There were 11 of you on the field, but there was clearly a twelfth man -- the entire French public, regardless of traditional allegiances," Macron said, in a reference to his own loyalty to PSG's rival club Olympique de Marseille. It was the first time PSG has won the biggest prize in European club football. Many of the stars of the team, one of the youngest in the competition, are drawn from the huge football talent pool in the Paris suburbs after PSG's Qatari owners turned their back on the policy of signing star players like Neymar and Lionel Messi. A total of 11.5 million people tuned in across France to watch the match. eba-ll-ekf/js

2 People Dead in Riots Following Champions League Final

Two people were killed and hundreds more injured in celebrations that deteriorated into riots throughout France following Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League Final win on Saturday. According to the national police service, a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death during a street party in Dax Saturday night, hours after PSG beat Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich. Dax Mayor Julien Dubois called for justice, asking for the killer to be located ad 'severely punished." Additionally, a man in his 20s riding a scooter in Paris was killed when he was struck by a car, authorities said. Police added that one officer is in an induced coma with serious eye injuries after accidentally being hit with fireworks during rioting in Coutances. According to 264 cars were set on fire and multiple stores looted in Paris. In total, 559 people were arrested, including nearly 500 in Paris alone, and 22 police officers and seven firefighters were injured in the melees. 'This is just half time for us. PSG's official parade will take place this evening, and we are expecting further tensions. There will be a very strong police and military presence," said Paris police prefect Laurent Nuñez. Around 5,400 police officers were sent out in Paris to contain the chaos, with Nuñez blaming a lot of the damage and debauchery on outsiders who weren't even there to celebrate the big win. 'There are people who didn't even watch the match but came just to commit vandalism,' said Nuñez. 'We will not tolerate such actions. True PSG supporters must not be confused with gangs of looters and troublemakers.' PSG dominated Inter from the outset on Saturday, winning the club's first Champions League title. The win marked the second Champions League crown for a French club, joining Marseille in 1992-93. The team is expected to hold a massive victory parade on the Champs-Elysees Sunday afternoon with more than 100,000 attendees. 2 People Dead in Riots Following Champions League Final first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 1, 2025

‘Reckless and Dangerous:' Nadler Attacks Trump After DHS Detained His Staffer

Rep. Jerrold Nadler criticized Donald Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after officers detained a crying staff member in Nadler's district office. While protesters gathered outside an immigration courthouse, DHS officers attempted to enter Nadler's Manhattan office in the same building and accused his staff of 'harboring rioters.' The incident, first reported by Gothamist, was captured on camera. In the video, which the outlet said was recorded by a person who was monitoring activity in immigration court, DHS is seen handcuffing an unidentified staff member. 'No she did not. That is not what happened,' another staff member said off camera. 'She pushed him back,' an unidentified officer responded. 'I'm a federal officer,' a DHS official said to a staff member who was stopping him from entering a private section of the office and asking if they had a search warrant. The officer said no, they did not have a warrant, but the staff member eventually allowed him to enter the area. Nadler blasted Trump and DHS for 'aggressive and heavy-handed tactics' used in this incident and to detain others across the country. 'President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are sowing chaos in our communities, using intimidation tactics against both citizens and non-citizens in a reckless and dangerous manner. In the most recent and deeply troubling incident, DHS agents forcefully entered my Congressional office and handcuffed a member of my staff,' Nadler said in a statement released Saturday. Nadler said the officers actions demonstrate 'a deeply troubling disregard for proper legal boundaries.' 'If this can happen in a Member of Congress's office, it can happen to anyone — and it is happening,' the New York congressman said, calling on DHS and Trump to 'halt the use of these dangerous tactics.' Nadler also criticized the administration's 'use of the expedited removal process which denies due process to immigrants and citizens alike.' The detained staff member was ultimately not arrested, nor was she charged with a crime. She told Gothamist that 'everything resolved' but did not comment further.
