Kerala HC seeks report on various idols placed in Sabarimala

Time of India18-07-2025
Kochi: High court has directed the
Sabarimala
special commissioner to file an additional report on the idols of Lord Ayyappa and other deities placed at various locations in Sabarimala Sannidhanam, including the Annadana Mandapam, on sponsorship by pilgrims.
A bench of Justices Anil K Narendran and S Muralee Krishna issued the order based on a report by the special commissioner regarding the collection of funds by a private party for installing a Panchaloha Vigraham (an idol made of an alloy of gold, silver, copper, zinc and iron) of Lord Ayyappa within the Sabarimala temple premises. While considering the matter on Friday, the state govt informed HC that police had already commenced a probe into the incident.
On Thursday, the special commissioner had informed HC that E K Sahadevan, chairman of Lotus Multispecialty Hospital and IVF Fertility Centre, Erode, allegedly circulated a pamphlet claiming that the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) had permitted him to install the Panchaloha Vigraham at Sabarimala. A communication from TDB secretary to the Sabarimala executive officer, stating that the board had decided to permit the idol installation, was also produced before HC.

The court directed TDB to issue an advisory on the Virtual-Q platform clarifying that no person has been authorised to install such an idol, nor has anyone been permitted to collect money for this purpose. The bench also sought the relevant files related to the alleged permission granted by TDB.
On Friday, the senior govt pleader sought more time to produce the files and informed HC that the advisory had already been posted on the Virtual-Q platform. He further clarified that the proposed installation of the idol is at the Annadana Mandapam. In reply, HC orally asked, "Has the opinion of the tantri been obtained regarding the installation of the idol?"
HC adjourned the matter to Tuesday.

Renukaswamy Murder Case: Supreme Court cancels bail of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa—Deets inside

Picture Credit: X Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, along with actress Pavithra Gowda and others, faced scrutiny in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy in June 2024. In the latest development, the Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, calling the earlier decision by the Karnataka High Court a "mechanical exercise of power." Court warns of witness influence in high-profile case According to reports by NDTV, a bench comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan passed the order, setting aside the High Court's ruling that had allowed Darshan and other accused to walk free on bail. Justice Mahadevan, who authored the judgment, observed, "The grant of bail will impact the trial, and the witnesses can be influenced." The court stressed that in such a serious case, releasing the accused posed a significant risk of interference in the judicial process. Justice Pardiwala, while praising Justice Mahadevan's detailed order, remarked during the hearing, "It is ineffable. It conveys a message that, however big the accused may be, he or she is not above the law.' The Supreme Court's decision followed a strong petition from the Karnataka government seeking to overturn the High Court's bail order. Forensic evidence links the accused to the crime scene. The state's submission outlined a number of points to demonstrate Darshan's alleged involvement in the crime. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo This included forensic evidence such as soil samples found on the accused's shoes, which matched the location of the crime scene, and blood from Renukaswamy found on the accused's clothing. The prosecution claimed that the forensic evidence in this case, combined with witness statements, also meant that the accused would need to be in custody to ensure a fair trial. For the unversed, Renukaswamy was found dead near a stormwater drain in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru. The autopsy revealed multiple blunt injuries leading to shock and hemorrhage; his mutilated body showed bruises and electric burns. Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra's advocate says allegations of Rs 60 crore fraud was a 'Malicious attempt to defame my clients'

Soon after Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her businessman husband Raj Kundra were booked in connection with the Rs 60.4 crore cheating case, their advocate, Prashant Patil, on Thursday issued a statement to IANS, calling the allegations "baseless" and said it is aimed at maligning the reputation of his clients. Advocate Releases Statement Responding to media reports, Advocate Prashant Patil released a statement that read, "My clients have been informed by certain segments of electronic and print media that an alleged case has been registered against them at the Economic Offences Wing, Mumbai. At the outset, my clients deny all the allegations, which are purely civil in nature and have already been adjudicated by the NCLT Mumbai on 04/10/2024." Calling it an old business transaction that turned into a legal matter after financial distress, Patil added: "There is no criminality involved. Our auditors have submitted all necessary supporting documents from time to time, as requested by the EOW, including detailed cash flow statements." He further clarified that the investment agreement in question was like an equity investment, and the company had already received a liquidation order, which was also presented to the Police Department. "The concerned chartered accountants have visited the police station more than 15 times over the past year, with all evidence supporting our clients' claims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn 57+ Languages Easily with AI [Join] Talkpal AI Sign Up Undo This is nothing but a baseless and malicious case aimed at maligning our clients, and appropriate legal action is being initiated from our side against the perpetrators," Patil stated. About The Case The fraud case has been linked to a now-defunct company Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, which involves a complaint by Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Kothari, who has accused the couple of defrauding him of over Rs 60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal between 2015 and 2023. According to police sources, complainant Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, alleged that the funds, meant for business expansion, were diverted for personal use. He said that Rajesh Arya had introduced him to the celebrity couple, who at the time were the directors of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a home shopping and online retail company in which the couple reportedly held a combined 87.6 per cent stake. Complaint Filed Initially, the complaint was filed at Juhu Police Station under sections related to cheating and forgery. However, given the financial scale of the case, exceeding Rs 10 crore, the investigation was transferred to the EOW following a preliminary inquiry. Kothari claimed that the accused initially sought a loan of Rs 75 crore at 12 per cent interest but later urged him to structure it as an investment to avoid higher tax liability. In return, they allegedly promised monthly returns along with repayment of the principal amount.
