Anglian League final ahead for Norfolk Under-18s golfers
It went right down to the wire against Suffolk and Cambridgeshire with the outcome depending on the shoulders of 13-year-old Leighton Young, easily the youngest member of the team.
The Swaffham member had already overcome his Cambridgeshire opponent and on the 18th tee stood all square against a Suffolk golfer.
In a see-saw final hole, Young looked to be up against it after a spot of tree trouble – but he dug deep and hit a stunning approach to almost tap-in distance.
His opponent encountered problems of his own, struggling on the green, and Young closed out the match to secure a famous overall victory for Norfolk.
Every member of the home team contributed to the winning score of 13 points – one and a half clear of both Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
Norfolk now face Leicestershire in the Boys Anglian League final at Boston Golf Club on August 18.
Norfolk Under-18s: Liam Caffyn, Luke Gilding, Luis King, Toby Lewin, Arthur Loose, Tom Mathers, Quin Monaghan, Leighton Young

Versant Keeps Golf Links After NBCU Split
The U.S. Golf Association will help the new media company known as Versant keep swinging into sports after it is spun off from NBCUniversal. USA Network and Golf Channel will get rights to present live coverage of 11 USGA championships through 2032 — including the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open — featuring live event and studio coverage of the championships across the networks struck under a new deal that is unveiled at the same time as a USGA renewal with NBCU. More from Variety Versant Hires Paramount's Erin Calhoun and MLB's Steve Arocho as Communications Executives Hulu Sale Boosts Comcast Q2 Despite Cord Cutting, Ad Sales Downturn Meghan Rafferty, 'NBC Nightly News' EP, to Join Versant Under terms of the new deal, USA will present about 35 hours of live U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open coverage each year. Golf Channel will carry expanded live coverage of the USGA championships, serving as the exclusive home of the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Women's Amateur, U.S. Junior Amateur., U.S. Girls' Junior., U.S. Senior Women's Open, U.S. Adaptive Open, Walker Cup, and Curtis Cup. NBCUniversal's new rights deal with the USGA also lasts through 2032, with the NBC broadcast network continuing to serve as the exclusive broadcast home of the U.S. Open, U.S. Women's Open, and U.S. Senior Open. The Versant spin off is expected to take place between late 2025 and early 2026. NBCU initially won the USGA rights in 2020 after the golf group broke up with Fox Sports, which was unable to come up with hours for telecasts after schedule shifts prompted by the coronavirus pandemic. 'We're incredibly proud of the partnership we've built over the years with NBCU and Versant, and we're equally excited to continue building on that legacy through our shared passion and dedication – alongside people we're proud to call our friends,' said USGA CEO Mike Whan, in a prepared statement. 'The value NBCU and Versant place on the USGA brand is evident, and this agreement enables the USGA to further advance our mission to positively impact the game, while providing the most expansive coverage and broadest reach to showcase USGA championships.' The pact shows Versant working to maintain sports contracts its networks have held for years. USA is still home to some WWE broadcasts, and both USA and CNBC have served as home to dozens of hours of Olympics contests. The new elements of the agreement will begin in 2027 following the conclusion of the current agreement in 2026. USA Network began its coverage of the USGA championships in 2022 with the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open. Meanwhile, Golf Channel first presented live coverage of the USGA championships in 1995 — the year it launched as the first single-sport cable network in television history. Paige Spiranac Admits What Everyone Is Thinking About Tommy Fleetwood
Paige Spiranac Admits What Everyone Is Thinking About Tommy Fleetwood originally appeared on The Spun. Paige Spiranac is admitting what everyone is thinking about Tommy Fleetwood on Sunday evening. Fleetwood, 34, entered Sunday's FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship with a lead. However, he is very much choking it away. Fleetwood was unable to close things out on Sunday, falling behind Justin Rose and J.J. Spaun. The British golfer is going viral on social media for his terrible collapse. Everyone is saying how brutal it is watching him choke away a lead. Spiranac isn't holding back on that, either. She took to social media to give a blunt assessment about Fleetwood's collapse on Sunday afternoon. Spiranac didn't hold back on social media on Sunday evening. "You really have to feel for fleetwood at this point. Brutal," she wrote on social media on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday night. Fleetwood is trending on social media amid his terrible collapse on Sunday afternoon. "Tommy Fleetwood when he has a chance to win a PGA Tour event. My heart breaks for him," one fan wrote. "Just another week betting Tommy Fleetwood," another fan added. "Tommy Fleetwood: 29th top-5 finish on PGA Tour, 11 more than any other player without a win over the last 40 years (Brett Quigley, 18)," one fan added. "People have to stop saying oh you just have to feel bad for Tommy Fleetwood and his fans. No, he does it to himself, he's a choker. It's not like guys are chasing him down and putting up 8 under final rounds to beat him. He par'd the par 5 that everyone birdied and bogey'd 17," another fan added. Fleetwood, meanwhile, said that he had been looking forward to the opportunity heading into Sunday. "I would way rather be there and fail than not be there at all. ... I just look forward to the opportunities, giving myself a chance, chasing my dreams, whether they happen or not that's another story. But I'm looking forward to it nonetheless," he said. Unfortunately, he couldn't get it done.
