Hiker dead after falling into waterfall in Squamish Valley, B.C.
The body of a hiker who died after falling into a waterfall in the upper Squamish Valley region of B.C. has been recovered.
According to a brief statement from the Sea-to-Sky RCMP, rescue teams responded to a report of a hiker who had fallen into Crooked Falls Thursday evening and arrived to find the person deceased at the scene.
Squamish Search and Rescue was unable to recover the hiker's body that evening due to 'challenging terrain and fading daylight,' and the rescue operation was postponed until Friday morning, Mounties said.
The coroner's service is working to determine the cause of the death, but no criminality is suspected, police said.
'We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,' said Const. Kelly Wu.
'We would like to thank Squamish SAR for their dedication and efforts at this tragic event.'
