Atlanta's Dwight Howard among group headed to Basketball Hall of Fame
Anthony and Howard were announced Saturday as members of the Class of 2025, as was the 2008 U.S. Olympic men's basketball team that they played on — dubbed the 'Redeem Team,' the one that captured gold at the Beijing Games and started a still-going run of five consecutive Olympic titles and counting for USA Basketball's men's program.

Howard, nicknamed 'Superman,' spent his high school career at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy.
He was drafted by the Orlando Magic and played there from 2004 to 2012.
He played with the Atlanta Hawks from 2016 to 2017 and also spent time with the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Philadelphia 76ers.
Also selected for enshrinement: WNBA greats Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and Sylvia Fowles, Chicago Bulls coach and two-time NCAA champion Billy Donovan, Miami Heat managing general partner Micky Arison and longtime NBA referee Danny Crawford.
Enshrinement weekend is Sept. 5-6 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, and the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

'When the call comes and in my case, I saw Springfield on the phone,' Anthony said on the televised announcement. 'You know what time it is Springfield is on the phone. You know who it is. You get the phone call and you hear, 'You're in.' And I think for me, it was a burden off of my shoulders.'
'For some, this is an individual honor,' Arison said. 'But for me, this speaks to what our entire Heat family — players, coaches, staff and fans — have built together.'
The Redeem Team's selection means that Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Jason Kidd and Kobe Bryant — already enshrined as Hall of Famers — essentially now go in for a second time. James and Paul, who are obviously both locks to get into the Hall after they retire, also played for that Olympic team, as did Michael Redd, Carlos Boozer, Deron Williams and Tayshaun Prince.

The Redeem Team had that moniker because it was the team tasked with restoring USA Basketball's place atop the world stage after the 2004 Olympic team only managed a bronze medal at the Athens Games. The Redeem Team went 8-0 in Beijing, winning those games by an average of 27.9 points.

UConn's women's program already had coach Geno Auriemma, Swin Cash (enshrined as a player) and Rebecca Lobo (enshrined as a contributor) in the Hall of Fame, and Bird and Moore going in together will obviously add to what's always a huge weekend in New England.
'They're hall of famers for me, they're hall of famers for their family, they're hall of famers for everybody — they're even hall of famers for UConn haters,' Auriemma said. 'That's one thing they can all agree on.'

Colts announce Xavien Howard signing, place Blake Freeland on IR
Cornerback Xavien Howard is officially a member of the Colts. The team announced Howard's signing on Monday afternoon. Howard did not play at all in 2024 after being released by the Dolphins, but was an All-Pro and went to multiple Pro Bowls during his time in Miami. Howard joins the Colts during a month that has featured plenty of injury issues at corner. Third-round pick Justin Walley is out for the year with a torn ACL and the team has had to work without JuJu Brents, Jaylon Jones, Kenny Moore II, and Johnathan Edwards at points in camp. The Colts also announced that they have placed offensive tackle Blake Freeland on injured reserve. Freeland fractured his leg against the Packers over the weekend. Linebacker Jacob Phillips and safety Hunter Wohler also went on injured reserve while linebackers Jake Chaney and Joseph Vaughn have been signed to the active roster.

Wisconsin football 2025 opponent, top Big Ten foe names starting quarterback
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day named true sophomore Julian Sayin his team's starting quarterback for the 2025 season on Monday. The 6-foot-1 pass-thrower, who is entering his second season as a member of the Buckeyes, will inherit the No. 1 quarterback responsibilities after former starter Will Howard left for the NFL after last season. The Carlsbad, California, native beat out redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz and true freshman Tavien St. Clair for the job. Ohio State becomes the second Wisconsin football opponent to name a first-year starter at quarterback entering the season, joining Alabama (Ty Simpson). Luke Fickell's group will square off against Alabama on Sept. 14, roughly one month before their Oct. 18 clash against the Buckeyes at Camp Randall Stadium. As the reigning national champions, Ohio State enters the 2025 campaign with the No. 3 position in the AP Poll. With Howard at the helm this past season, OSU won 14 games and defeated Tennessee, Oregon and Texas en route to its College Football Playoff title game triumph over Notre Dame on Jan. 20. Sayin, 247Sports' No. 1-ranked quarterback in the class of 2024, will now look to build off the momentum and lead one of college football's most prestigious programs in his first year as its starter. Sayin appeared in four games for the Buckeyes last season, including a 61-yard, one-touchdown performance against Western Michigan on Sept. 7. He originally transferred to the program from Alabama after Nick Saban's retirement in January 2024. While the output vs. the Broncos provided glimpses of terrific play, Sayin's 2024 reps were limited. He just played 27 total snaps on offense and accumulated 84 total passing yards, while Howard, the full-time starter, totaled 4,010 yards and 35 touchdowns through the air. Fortunately for Sayin, the Buckeyes' offense does not lack talent. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, fresh off a stellar freshman season, is widely considered the best pass-catcher in college football. He, alongside junior Carnell Tate Jr. and Brandon Inniss, creates one of the more threatening wide receiver trios across the country. Sayin will look to impress for the Buckeyes in the program's third road tilt of the year on Oct. 18 in Madison. Colts coach weighs in on Indianapolis signing CB Xavien Howard
Colts' DC Lou Anarumo weighs in on the team signing former All-Pro cornerback Xavien Howard. As the Indianapolis Colts continue to navigate injuries at cornerback, the team is signing former All-Pro Xavien Howard to boost their depth at the position. Current Colts' defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is familiar with Howard. A second overall pick by Miami in 2016, Anarumo was Howard's defensive backs coach for his first two NFL seasons and part of the pre-draft evaluation process. The thing about Howard's game that has stood out the most to Anarumo is his ball production. After not logging an interception as a rookie, Howard tallied 29 of them between the 2017 and 2023 seasons. He's also forced 95 pass deflections in his career. "Well, I know X from his college days," Anarumo said on Monday, via Locked on Colts. "We drafted him when I was a coach at Miami. I was around them during that process, around him his first two years of his career. So the one thing about him that always jumped off the tape ot me when he was at Baylor, the reason why he was drafted so high is he can go get the ball and he's proven that throughout his NFL career, that he's been an elite interceptor. "So we're hoping that we'll give him some time to get back and get back into football shape because that takes a while. But hoping that we can get some of those interceptions going." Howard is now 32 years old and didn't play in the NFL last season. So his last regular-season snaps came in 2023. However, Anarumo doesn't have any concerns about Howard's time off or where he's at in his career. "Last year with the Bengals, we worked him out back in December," Anarumo said. "So you've seen him move a little bit and look good and I just feel good about the athlete that he is. And maybe you could look at it as his legs got a year off to rest. So one thing I know is his ball skills and those things, they don't go away with time, and he still has those." Howard is joining the Colts late in the offseason, but his past experience and being able to operate in a variety of different defensive schemes should help him acclimate quickly to Anarumo's defense. "Well, he's played a lot of football," Anarumo added. "He's played in a lot of systems over the course of his career. So while we may call it a little bit something different than what he's used to, he'll just equate it to the things he knows. And I don't think there's going to be anything where it's like, okay, this is totally different. So I think he'll pick it up pretty quick." The starting cornerback spot opposite of Charvarius Ward still seems to be up for grabs at this point, with the Colts having to work through injuries at this position.
