Naidu aims to make Andhra a defence manufacturing hub
The chief of the Telugu Desam Party — a key member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) — also emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' campaign significantly aided the country during the armed conflict with Pakistan in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
The state's plans align with the Viksit Bharat initiative, the chief minister said, and expressed the state's readiness to contribute to the country's defence ecosystem with its 'strong infrastructure base, skilled workforce, and proactive policy environment'.
'Operation Sindoor has increased trust in our defence forces. We have requested a Defence and Research Development Organisation (DRDO) Centre of Excellence at IIT Tirupati and proposed the creation of a common storage policy for ammunition, along with the necessary infrastructure for storage, testing, and a streamlined licensing framework,' Naidu stated.
During his meeting with Singh, the CM has presented a series of plans including the development of a defence cluster between Jaggayyapet and Donakonda on 6,000 acres of land for the establishment of missile and ammunition production units.
'Similarly, in the Lepakshi–Madakasira region, with 10,000 acres available, we proposed setting up facilities for military and civil aircraft manufacturing, along with electronics production. The defence minister responded positively to the idea of building a full-fledged aerospace ecosystem,' he said.
Additionally, the state government requested the establishment of naval equipment production and weapon testing facilities in the Visakhapatnam-Anakapalli region, Naidu said.
The government has also proposed to develop units focussed on military drones, robotics and advance defence components in 4,000 acres of land at Orvakal in Kurnool district, he added.
The CM also met Union finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman and submitted a proposal seeking central support for the Polavaram-Banakacherla river linkage project, which aims to divert surplus water from the Godavari River to Krishna basin to provide irrigation in the water-scarce areas in south-central Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu also met Union minister for new and renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi and submitted a proposal seeking rooftop solar capacity allocations under the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana.

SSC reduced exam notice duration from 45 to 21 days: Govt in RS
The Staff Selection Commission has introduced different reform measures to shorten the recruitment cycle, including reduction in the duration of exam notice from around 45 days to 21 days, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday. Union Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh has informed that SSC has introduced several reform measures to shorten the recruitment cycle. (HT file) Due to the cumulative effect of these measures, there has been a reduction in the recruitment cycle of various examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) from 15-18 months to 6-10 months, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh, said in a written reply. Singh said the SSC has introduced several reform measures to shorten the recruitment cycle, including "complete transition from pen and paper-based examinations to computer-based examinations", "reduction in the number of tiers/stages of examinations" and "duration of exam notice shortened from around 45 days to around 21 days". Also read: SSC Steno Final Result 2024: Grade C and D final marks released at check here Singh cited "removal of descriptive-type papers in all examinations (except combined Hindi translators examination)", "document verification of selected candidates to be done by ministries/departments", "discontinuation of interview" and "introduction of e-dossiers and phasing-out of physical dossiers, thereby speeding-up pre-appointment verification" as some of the reform measures. In a separate response, he said the SSC has developed an online centralised e-dossier system for secure, tamper-proof, and transparent handling of candidate dossiers of recruitment examinations. The key features of the system include controlled, role-based access to e-dossier system provided through authorised logins to users in SSC and ministries/departments and tracking mechanism at every stage with unique tracking number to ensure authenticity and data integrity, the minister said. Implementation of the e-dossier system for the pre-appointment process has resulted in several benefits, including faster validation and forwarding of dossiers with digital tracking, efficient coordination between SSC and ministries/departments, besides reduction in the use of physical dossiers, thereby speeding up the pre-appointment verification and recommendation of candidates to ministries/departments, Singh said. "As regards other competitive examinations, the civil services (mains) examination conducted by the UPSC allows candidates to write answers in any of the 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, besides Hindi or English (except in the case of language and literature papers)," Singh said. Other recruitment agencies such as Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) and Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) also conduct examinations in 13 regional languages along with Hindi and English, the minister added.

Kiren Rijiju, Mallikarjun Kharge engage in brief altercation in Rajya Sabha
