Nation salutes the Air Force's dedication and loyalty, says PM
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his appreciation to all Air Force personnel for their commitment, bravery and loyalty in defending the nation's airspace.
In a Facebook post on Sunday (June 1), Anwar said the dedication and readiness of Air Force personnel remain the backbone of Malaysia's cherished peace and sovereignty.
"Continue the legacy of excellence. The nation will always value every drop of sweat and sacrifice from you. Long live the RMAF on its 67th Anniversary!" he said.

'While river pollution is a thing of the past here in the UK, it remains a problem in our country. Public awareness about this issue must be increased,' he told reporters after the dinner with Malaysian students sponsored by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) in the UK. Also present were MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, 60 MARA-sponsored students, and 40 other guests. During the meeting, both leaders also discussed cooperation in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme and the global halal industry. 'I believe this meeting opens new avenues to elevate Malaysia-UK cooperation to a more strategic level, particularly in building an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future,' he said. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid emphasised the importance of continuously fostering a sense of belonging among MARA-sponsored students abroad, encouraging them to return and contribute to the country. He added that although the average salary may be higher in the UK, students must remain mindful of their role in Malaysia's development, as it is essential for them to contribute to the country's progress. More 'tamu desa' to built in Sabah, S'wak this year, says Ewon
KOTA KINABALU: The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry will construct more "tamu desa" (rural traditional markets) in Sabah and Sarawak this year, to enhance rural market facilities and empower entrepreneurs in both states, says Datuk Ewon Benedick. The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister said the Madani government, through the ministry, had allocated RM20mil to implement the Tamu Desa Development Project this year. He added that this included an additional RM10mil announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Madani Rakyat Programme in Tawau last month. "Last year, we successfully built and upgraded 98 tamu desa across Sabah and Sarawak. This year, with an allocation of RM20mil, I hope the same number or more can be built," he said in a statement Monday (June 2). He was speaking after officiating the Kampung Pinasang Tamu Darat Kaamatan Festival in Kota Belud and subsequently launching the village's tamu desa, which was completed this year at a cost of RM250,000. Ewon said 14 tamu desa were built in the Kota Belud area, part of the 98 premises completed across Sabah and Sarawak last year. "I have been informed by the village leaders that these premises greatly benefit the residents, especially mothers and small entrepreneurs who conduct business weekly. They not only provide a more comfortable space for selling but can also be used for various community activities on other days," he said. According to him, the requirements for tamu desa development vary depending on the location and scope of work determined by the District Office, whether for new construction or upgrading, involving costs ranging from RM100,000 to RM300,000. As of May this year, he said, applications for new construction or upgrading of tamu desa premises in Sabah had reached RM40mil, including applications carried over from last year that could not be implemented, and this amount did not yet include applications from Sarawak "Although our budget is limited, what is important is the continuity of what was implemented last year. What we started last year will be continued and expanded this year. I am confident that this programme will be among the key inputs of the ministry in the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026-2030)," he said. The tamu desa initiative was also part of the government's commitment to pay special attention to the needs of rural Sabah and Sarawak, in line with the nation's inclusive development agenda, he added. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia was among the earliest nations to act swiftly and decisively to shield its industries, businesses and people from global economic and geopolitical shocks, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'We have rolled out strategic and comprehensive actions across all sectors to preserve our economic stability and national competitiveness.' Anwar was speaking at Istana Negara yesterday in conjunction with the official birthday of His Majesty the King of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim. He said the government responded swiftly and strategically to a host of global disruptions, from geopolitical conflicts to rising trade tariffs. Anwar added that the nation's true strength goes beyond economic metrics and lies in the resilience and resolve of its people. 'Our agricultural sector, local products and domestic industries remain the backbone of the economy, all driven by a patriotic and increasingly self-reliant populace. 'The unwavering support of the people reflects not only patriotism but also an acute awareness of the need for self-sufficiency in these uncertain times.' Malaysia, as Asean chair, has taken an active role in shaping regional diplomacy.
