Mysuru: KSOU Akka Mahadevi Research and Extension Center director Kavita Rai on Sunday emphasised that while language speaking can be taught, writing instruction poses significant challenges.
She noted that people currently experience anxiety about writing. She also expressed criticism towards actor Kamal Haasan's recent comments about the Kannada language.
Speaking at an event, she said that as a result of modern technology, the process of translation from one language to another is happening on a large scale. The youth of the current era have become proficient in computer writing rather than handwriting.
There is no need to be surprised if in the future they write with the help of artificial intelligence, she said.
She highlighted the complexity of teaching writing in one language to speakers of another, considering social and cultural contexts. She noted that linguistic expression varies among individuals. She pointed out that languages did not develop sequentially but emerged simultaneously.
Poet Jyothi Guruprasad highlighted the increasing instances of plagiarism.
She noted that this practice has disrupted the connection between reading and critical thinking, with unauthorised sharing of content on social media becoming prevalent. She attributed this to inadequate educational methodologies.
She advocated for educational institutions to adopt teaching approaches that make learning enjoyable, which would encourage students to develop independent writing skills.
The event was attended by writers C Naganna and Kalpana Mukunda Iyengar.

Kiran Raj's ‘Karna' serial launch stalls due to legal hurdle; Fans left disappointed

The much-awaited Kannada television serial Karna, starring Kiran Raj and Bhavya Gowda, was all set to hit the small screen on June 16 at 8 PM. With a powerful star cast, high production values, and emotionally charged promos, Karna had already captured the attention of viewers across Karnataka. However, just hours before the grand premiere, the launch was unexpectedly postponed, leaving fans surprised and disappointed. Taking to social media, lead actor Kiran Raj issued a heartfelt apology to his fans. 'I was supposed to enter your homes as Karna today, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, it didn't happen. I sincerely apologize to all our viewers. Your response has been overwhelming, and we are working hard to bring you a quality show. It may be delayed, but we are definitely coming,' he said. Kiran hinted at a legal issue being the reason for the sudden delay. While he refrained from disclosing details, sources close to the production suggest that certain compliance matters are being addressed before the show can officially go on air. Produced by Shruti Naidu, Karna is said to be a high-investment project and months of meticulous planning. The promos had already crossed over a million views online within hours of release, indicating the massive anticipation around the serial. Plot & Characters Karna revolves around Dr. Karna, a kind-hearted and respected gynecologist who is adored at work and among friends, but struggles with loneliness and emotional neglect within his own family. Kiran Raj plays the titular role with emotional depth, marking his return to TV after a two-year break. Joining him are Bhavya Gowda as Nidhi, a supportive and idealistic woman who shares a special bond with Karna, and Namratha Gowda, of Naagini fame, playing Nithya, Nidhi's headstrong and independent sister. Both women's paths intertwine with Karna's in deeply emotional ways, setting the tone for a complex and heart-tugging narrative. Veteran actors like T.S. Nagabharana and Asha Rani are also part of the ensemble, bringing gravitas to the show. What Next? While fans were geared up to tune in on June 16, the makers have now urged viewers to remain patient. 'We request a little more time. Everyone, our actors, technicians, and producers, has worked hard. The show deserves a fair launch, and we're committed to making that happen,' Kiran Raj assured. The respected channel is expected to announce a new premiere date once the legal matters are sorted. With the buzz still alive and the emotional weight of the story intact, Karna continues to remain one of the most anticipated serials on Kannada television.

Meet actress, who murdered a friend, chopped him into 300 pieces, got intimate in front of dead body, was arrested by police with the help of...

In 2008, Bollywood's glossy façade cracked, revealing a dark, chilling tale that stunned the nation. At the centre of it was a rising Kannada actress, a jealous lover in uniform, and a casting director who vanished without a trace. Maria Monica Susairaj had come to Mumbai chasing the dream—to go from South starlet to a known name in Hindi cinema. That's when she crossed paths with Neeraj Grover, a casting executive at Balaji Telefilms. Their professional bond quickly turned personal. Grover helped her network, offered her his flat, and eventually became more than just a friend. But love in Maria's life was already spoken for — she was in a long-distance relationship with Navy Lieutenant Jerome Mathew. When Jerome sensed something more than friendship between Maria and Grover, suspicion began to brew. Jealousy turned deadly. In May 2008, Jerome showed up unannounced in Mumbai. What he found in Maria's apartment — Neeraj Grover — lit the fuse. A violent confrontation followed. In a fit of rage, Jerome stabbed Neeraj to death, with Maria present. But the horror didn't end there. The couple's actions after the murder defied comprehension. According to reports and the police investigation, the duo allegedly spent hours with the body, engaging in unspeakable acts. Later, they dismembered Grover's corpse into over 300 pieces, packed the remains in plastic bags, and drove out to burn them with petrol. All in a desperate attempt to erase the crime. Neeraj's sudden disappearance set off alarms among his friends and family. Calls went unanswered. Police tracked his last known location — it led straight to Maria. As surveillance intensified, the investigators noticed an unusual call spike between Maria and Jerome following Neeraj's disappearance. The breakthrough came from a tip — a watchman remembered seeing Maria and Jerome carrying suspicious bags out of the apartment. Confronted with evidence, Maria broke down and confessed. The following trial became one of India's most watched true crime sagas. Jerome was sentenced to 10 years for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, while Maria received just 3 years for destroying evidence. The verdict stirred public outrage, especially given the brutality of the crime. Maria Monica Susairaj walked free in 2011, having already served her time in custody. Years later, the shadows of this case still linger — a haunting reminder that sometimes, real-life scripts are far more terrifying than anything written for the screen.
