This modern cassette boombox will lure you in with glowing VU meters

We Are Rewind, a Paris-based company that has relaunched the cassette player with modern features like support for wireless headphones and rechargeable batteries, has announced a larger boombox version. Streamlining the design of the portable stereos that were popular in the '80s, the €449 (around $500 USD) GB-001 can function as a Bluetooth speaker and stream audio from a mobile device. But its most appealing feature is its ability to play and record to cassettes, potentially reviving the mixtape for another generation.
The GB-001's cassette deck mechanism features a user-adjustable motor with internal speed regulation for accurate playback. It also has a 'noise reduction circuit' that emulates Dolby B so it can properly play tapes recorded using that older noise reduction system without any loss in sound quality. It can record on tapes, too, from external sources that include a wired microphone or a pair of mics connected wirelessly over Bluetooth.
The GB-001 has four speakers — two 'powerful woofers for extended bass response' paired with two 'soft dome tweeters for refined voices and treble.' We Are Rewind describes the GB-001 as having a 'natural sound signature' so, unlike the boomboxes of the '80s, it's not going to drown out lyrics with overpowering bass. And in keeping with current trends in audio gear, the GB-001 includes a 'spatialisation function for a wider, more immersive stereo image.'
A rechargeable, user-replaceable 3,000mAh battery provides up to 10 hours of playback through the speakers when playing a tape, or up to 15 using an external audio source. That jumps up to 15 and 28 hours, respectively, when using headphones, but We Are Rewind didn't specify if that's through the 3.5-millimeter audio jack or Bluetooth.
Even if you're not in need of its cassette capabilities, the design of the GB–001 still makes it an appealing alternative to Bluetooth speakers that often look like beach toys. It not only has a retro-looking folding carrying handle, it also sports a pair of functional analog VU meters that are backlit with a soft warm glow. For those of us who grew up enamored with the design of stereos from the '70s and '80s, the VU meters alone could help justify the splurge.

James Bond actor makes surprise return as iconic villain

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is reprising one of his best-known roles in a unique collaboration between the James Bond franchise and the Hitman video game series. The 59-year-old will be voicing Le Chiffre, the character he played in 2006's Casino Royale, in Hitman: World of Assassination where he will be a target for the game's protagonist, the professional hitman Agent 47. The news was announced by video game developers IO Interactive, the company behind Hitman and the new James Bond origins game 007 First Light, at Summer Game Fest 2025. However, unlike his scene-stealing moments in Casino Royale, which included torturing a nude Daniel Craig, Le Chiffre will be the one trying to stay alive as gamers hunt him down as he hides out in Paris. The character will appear as a new 'Elusive Target' in an update for the game and will be available across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 from 6 June until 6 July. As per the event's description: 'Mads Mikkelsen returns as Le Chiffre, the iconic private banker to the criminal underworld, known for his mastery of games of chance and probability. 'A recent failed venture left him in dire straits, losing vast sums of both legitimate and illicit capital, and in a desperate bid to recover, he has arranged a high-stakes poker game at the Casino Monarchique in Paris. Agent 47 has been tasked with infiltrating the perilous event and will have to find his way to his target to prevent havoc being wreaked across the world.' HITMAN and 007 are coming together in a very unexpected way… yep Agent 47's next target is Le Chiffre! @007GameIOI #SummerGameFest — Summer Game Fest (@summergamefest) June 6, 2025 Mikkelsen also made a special appearance at the event, which was being broadcast from the YouTube Theatre in Inglewood, California, where he spoke of his excitement at returning to the role. 'This is a role, I've had a lot of love for this character, it means a lot to me,' said the Hannibal star. 'So when I got the chance to step into the shoes of Le Chiffre again, I didn't hesitate. But this time is a little different. He's more confident, he's dangerous, he's not just a brilliant mind hiding behind a desk. He's visceral, unpredictable and ruthless, and this time, he doesn't outsource the violence any more." It comes after Mikkelsen told Vulture in 2021, that he and Craig almost went too far when filming the infamous torture scene in Casino Royale. According to Mikkelsen, one idea the pair concocted was that Le Chiffre 'actually cut [Bond] up somewhere, and he had to suffer with that for a while'. The actor added: 'At a certain point, director Martin Campbell was just smiling and said, 'Boys, come back to the table. This is a Bond film. We can't go there.' 'We were lost in our indie world, right? You have to respect that. It is a Bond film. That's the framework you need to understand.'

Internet celebrity Tiki is up for adoption. The waitlist is full.

Internet celebrity Tiki is up for adoption. The waitlist is full. Show Caption Hide Caption Foster dog Tiki's viral TikTok journey from fear to affection, and now, adoption Tiki, a rescue dog in Los Angeles, overcomes his traumatic past with love and patience. Now, he's ready for adoption, with hundreds of hopeful applicants. Tiki, who melted millions of hearts with his innocence and recovery, is now up for adoption, his foster Isabel Klee said. The plot twist, however, is that applications and the waitlist are both full after the 5-year-old dog received more than 100 applications in just the first hour alone. The pooch, who got a new lease on life after he was rescued from dire circumstances, became social media famous after Klee documented his journey on TikTok, with some of the videos garnering millions of views. "The response has been so heartwarming," Klee, a content creator and upcoming author based in Brooklyn, told USA TODAY. "The world can be a really harsh place, especially right now. There's a lot going on, and I think everybody just kind of needed this story that was feel good and hopeful to turn to." Tiki's virality also helped New York-based Muddy Paws Rescue, who connected Klee with Tiki, raise over $200,000 through Tiki-themed merchandise and donations, Klee said. Tiki refused to leave his bed when he first came home When Klee first brought him home, Tiki did not eat, drink or leave his bed even to go to the bathroom. Klee was unable to reveal the circumstances in which Tiki was rescued due to privacy concerns, but said she was made aware of the situation, which wasn't very great, when she picked him up for fostering. "There was this big fear he wouldn't get better," Klee said. "There were nights when I would just lay awake looking at my ceiling, wondering what the outcome would be." "Before I picked him up, ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) told us this dog was in really bad shape, and they didn't know if he was going to be able to be rehabilitated," Klee said. "We didn't know what his outcome would be. But Muddy Paws Rescue and I decided to pull him anyway, because I feel all dogs deserve the chance to get better, and a lot of dogs can't get better in a shelter environment, because it can be really stressful." Slowly but steadily, things started looking up. "Day by day, he did get better," Klee said. "I kind of just sat back and learned to exist with him. I didn't push him. I let him come out of his shell on his own." It started with Tiki first only putting his paw outside the crate. Then he started drinking water, then eating. "Every day it was something new, until eventually he was crawling into my lap and asking for cuddles," Klee said. "It happened really slowly, but day by day, he got braver and braver." Curious little pup Klee said it took almost 13 days for her to touch Tiki for the first time because of how hesitant he was. But when it finally happened, "it was well worth the wait." After more than a month in Klee's care, Tiki is now also getting warmed up to being around other people and pets. While he isn't entirely comfortable in their presence, like when Klee has people over, he does come outside and hangs out with them, observing everybody. "He is very curious," Klee said. "He met my mom and allowed her to give him kisses and pets. Every single day with every person he meets, he gets a little braver, and he comes out of his shell a little bit more." Tiki's favorite things As Tiki came out of his shell, one of his favorite things to do is sit with dirty laundry. "He's obsessed with our dirty laundry," Klee laughed. "It sounds really funny, but he'll go into the hamper and take out, like a shirt that I wore and cuddle with it, which is just the cutest thing. He also loves our shoes. It's like he loves to cuddle with the things that smell like us. He never destroys them, he just likes to sit with them." As for his favorite snack, "he's obsessed with cheese," mostly cheddar, Klee said. Tiki and Simon Klee may be putting in most of the effort, but Tiki's favorite person in the house is her 6-year-old dog Simon, who she adopted after fostering him when he was just a little puppy. "Simon is the best partner in fostering," Klee gushed. "He is just so patient (and) understanding. He gets it. He understands these dogs need help and teaches them to be a dog again." Klee credited Simon with teaching Tiki how to play with toys and encouraging Tiki to go outside for the first time. "Having a confident dog in the house is just like the best possible thing when you're fostering a fearful dog," Klee shared. Isabel and Simon have fostered 20 dogs together Klee and Simon have fostered 20 dogs together, though Klee has been fostering dogs for much longer. The content creator shared she's been fostering dogs since she was 25 but took a long break when she adopted Simon after fostering him. "Simon has a lot of complicated health issues so I stopped fostering for a number of years, and then picked it back up about two years ago," Klee said, adding the two have now fostered 20 dogs together. Depending on the dog's need, fosters have been as short as a few days and as long as two months. "It's been a lot, (but) I find it so rewarding," Klee said. "Of course, there are difficult moments, but I think the joyful moments far outweigh it." She added: "Tiki is such a great example. Four weeks (in) and he's a completely different dog. Just being that vessel for change and seeing them grow over a short amount of time is the most magical thing." Tips for fostering For anyone looking into fostering dogs, Klee's word of advice would be to have patience. "Patience is the most important thing," Klee, who is also in process of writing a book on fostering, said. "Whether that's being frustrated that the dog is peeing inside, or that they're barking at you or, whatever it may be. Just come at it with patience and the understanding that this dog is in a brand-new space, and (that) it's scary and terrifying (for them)." Tiki is not going to be with Klee much longer, given the overwhelming response received on his adoption application. However, an adoption doesn't mean their relationship would come to an end. Klee shared she always exchanges information with any family that adopts the dogs she has fostered, and "most of them still keep in touch" with her. "I get pictures all the time," Klee said, adding it is up to the adopter on whether they want to keep a relationship with her. "Luckily most people find the dogs through my page, so they usually do want to keep in touch. I'm very happy about that." Saman Shafiq is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY. Inside Lauren Sánchez's A-list female circle as she prepares to wed billionaire Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos' fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, keeps a star-studded group of women in her inner circle. Gearing up for her highly anticipated wedding, Sanchez recently celebrated with a three-day bachelorette party with Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, mother Kris Jenner, Eva Longoria and more in Paris. The festivities kicked off on May 14 at the historic restaurant Lafayette's, where Sánchez hosted a dinner for an intimate gathering of 13 women. "The atmosphere was very relaxed and very Parisian," a source shared with People. "It was a pre-wedding all-girl party for 13." Sánchez later shared a photo of the group posing on Lafayette's rooftop with the Eiffel Tower in the background. "Forever starts with friendship, surrounded by the women who've lifted me up, illuminated my path in dark times, and shaped my heart along the way," she wrote in the caption. "Forever starts with friendship, surrounded by the women who've lifted me up, illuminated my path in dark times, and shaped my heart along the way." On May 16, Sánchez's bachelorette group was spotted heading to lunch before partying on a yacht. Sánchez hosted another bachelorette event at Le Grand Cafe at Grand Palais on May 17. The Bezos-Sánchez wedding is reportedly being held in Venice, Italy, this month. There is expected to be a star-studded guest list, with friends of the couple making an appearance. Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, Ivanka Trump and Oprah Winfrey are reportedly attending, per Page Six. During her bachelorette party, People reported that Sanchez wore several Oscar de la Renta looks, which may be a hint at the designer she will wear on her big day. Sanchez's high-profile female friend group spans wider than those in attendance for her bachelorette party. Perry and Sanchez's friendship headed to space in April. The pair flew aboard Bezos' Blue Origin rocket ship on an all-female mission along with talk-show host Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen. Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Brooks Nader and Sanchez have been longtime friends, which might mean she will be attending the wedding. Last July, Sanchez shared photos from a weekend in New York with Nader. Sydney Sweeney liked the post back in 2024. It appears Sweeney and Sanchez are friendly because at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscars party, the duo posted for a picture together. Sofía Vergara, Jessica Alba and Kelly Sawyer Patricof were also in the shot. Bezos and Sánchez reportedly met in the mid-2010s but didn't go public with their relationship until 2019 – once Sanchez separated from her then-husband, Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell, and Bezos divorced Mackenzie Scott. Bezos proposed to Sánchez while aboard his $500 million yacht, Koru, in May 2023, she told Vogue in November of that year. W Magazine reported that Sanchez's 30-carat engagement ring is estimated to be worth between $3 million and $5 million. The outlet reported that Sanchez had two engagement parties, one in Beverly Hills and another in Positano, Italy.
