Stirling charity launches summer campaign to maintain year-round assistance
Start Up Stirling's 'Santa's Sleighing Summer' campaign is reminding people that hunger and hardship exists throughout the year and not just in the winter months.
The local foodbank charity needs help to maintain the level of food required to support everyone that is referred to them.
Coordinator Julie Christie said: 'Sometimes the summer holidays can be the hardest time of the year, as children don't have school support and meals.
'Even the smallest donation makes a big difference to the children and young people that are supported by Start Up Stirling.
'Currently, the need for the Crisis Food Service is outstripping the food donations we are receiving.
'If you are able to leave a food donation at any of our stations throughout the area, we would really appreciate it.
'Each and every can and packet makes a difference.'
Among the items the charity is particularly in need of are cereal bars, diluting juice, jams and spreads, hot dogs and snacks.
Donation stations and shopping lists for workplaces or community groups during the summer campaign are available.
Any organisation or business who would like to have their own food donation station or fundraising event, or host a permanent station, can ring the charity's office on (01786) 561027 for more details.
Anyone ordering a weekly shop online can also make a food donation order for Start Up Stirling.
They can accept supermarket food deliveries, including fresh and frozen food, to their warehouse at 16B Whitehouse Road, FK7 7SP, as long as it arrives between Tuesday and Thursday, 9am until 2pm, or Friday, 9am until 12.30pm.
Start Up is also making sure that children and young people go back to school with new uniforms and bags.
Julie added: 'Everyone deserves to start the new school term with the self-worth and confidence that these things bring.
'This year, Start Up Stirling is appealing for vouchers from the following places - Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Asda, Amazon, Primark, Sports Direct and JD Sport - to purchase school uniforms, underwear, socks, shoes, PE kits and school bags.
'Vouchers help to give the families of children and young people the opportunity to choose the uniforms, school bags and stationery they like, giving them dignity and freedom of choice.
'We would also love to receive donations of water bottles of different sizes and lunch boxes, either at our warehouse, or at our donation stations throughout the area.'
Financial donations also help to support all of Start Up Stirling's services, whether it is buying food for the Crisis Food Service, running the Community Hubs, putting fuel into their vans for rural deliveries or picking up donations from supermarkets.
Donations can be made via www.startupstirling.org.uk, and if you are eligible for Gift Aid, it increases your gift to them by 25 per cent.

Dumfries and Galloway scheme to help new entrepreneurs gets £1.5 million boost
The South of Scotland Enterprise Pathways Pre-Start is continuing after a successful pilot stage. A programme aiming to help people in Dumfries and Galloway turn their business ideas into reality has received a £1.5 million funding boost. The South of Scotland Enterprise Pathways Pre-Start programme awarded grants of up to £1,000 to nearly 400 people during a successful pilot last year. It also offered specialist coaching to hundreds of existing or potential business founders to help them with their business ideas and build confidence. The Scottish Government has now allocated the pilot a further £1.5 million so it can continue this year. It's part of a £6 million investment that aims to focus on supporting women and other under-represented groups to become entrepreneurs. Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes said: 'A successful, vibrant economy needs high-growth, innovative start-up businesses and that in turn is reliant on supporting and nurturing business talent – talent which I know lies in every corner of our country. 'I am determined to break down any and all barriers for any business-minded person who wants to start or develop their business idea or company, and this incredibly successful Pathways pilot run by South of Scotland Enterprise has illustrated how effective pre-start intervention can be. 'Three in four of those who accessed the programme's coaching services said that the things that previously held them back from starting a business were no longer barriers. This is a powerful illustration of the pilot's success and I am delighted to support its continuation for a further year as part of our commitment to deliver the recommendations of the Pathways report and tackle under-representation in business.' South of Scotland Enterprise chief executive, Jane Morrison-Ross, said: 'The goal of Pathways was to support the ambitions of new and under-represented founders across thesouth of Scotland, by reaching people with fantastic ideas but who did not think of themselves as entrepreneurs. 'We worked with 269 women and people from other under-represented groups to create over 100 new, innovative businesses. 'With the support of the Scottish Government, we will now take this further, unlocking the fantastic potential in the south, breaking more barriers to growth and unleashing the power of the rural economy.'

Hamilton law firm praised at parliament for volunteering efforts
Staff from Scullion Law transformed the garden of their charity partners Home-Start Staff at a Hamilton law firm have been congratulated at the Scottish Parliament for their long-standing volunteer partnership with a community organisation. Family law team members Judith Higson, Nicola Buchanan, Claire Thomas, Laura Cousins, Liz Semple and Carly Russell spent a day supporting Home Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire by clearing, weeding and painting the outdoor garden at their Maryhill base. It was the latest part of the legal firm's four-year partnership with the charity, which saw Scullion being named as corporate supporter of the year at the Home-Start UK Awards in March – and has now been recognised with an official motion at Holyrood. Annie Wells, the Glasgow MSP, sponsored a motion at the parliament praising Scullion's 'outstanding support' of the charity following the garden transformation to benefit its early-years youngsters during the summer; and noted that their ongoing link 'demonstrates a deep commitment to supporting families in need'. She also praised their fundraising donations of £1 from every invoice and participation in events including the Kiltwalk, saying they have 'raised significant funds for Home-Start since 2021' and commended Scullion's 'lasting impact in enabling Home-Start to expand services, train more volunteers and build resilient, thriving communities'. It has so far been supported by 23 MSPs, including Lanarkshire colleagues Meghan Gallacher and Fulton MacGregor. Head of family law Judith Higson said: 'It was fantastic to spend the day together as a team, supporting the brilliant work Home‑Start does for families. Getting stuck in with the gardening and painting allowed us to contribute in a hands-on, meaningful way, and we hope the families enjoy the space.' Home‑Start fundraising and partnerships officer Rachel Muir said the team's 'kindness and hard work have made a wonderful difference in creating a welcoming and pleasant environment for the families and children we support', adding: 'We deeply appreciate their time, energy, and generosity.' * Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
