Phase 1 of Kasarvadavli Flyover opened to traffic
According to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials, the new flyover is anticipated to have improved connectivity among Thane, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Vasai and Virar. The flyover has been constructed with a target to ease the congestion on Ghodbunder Road, which experienced a significant amount of office traffic and heavy freight trailers most of which lead to the Mumbai-Gujarat corridor through Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) or Vashi.
The flyover has been constructed with a capacity of 73,333 passenger cars with a two-lane, 7.5 metre wide flyover and an underpass designed as 2×2 lanes. The ramp length of the flyover is 721 metres.
The flyover design has been planned taking in consideration the nearby metro corridor to provide smooth intermodal connectivity once the local Metro Line 4, which is Wadala to Gaimukh, is ready for operations.
The completion of Phase 1 of the project is also expected to decrease travel time from Waghbil to Gaimukh, officials said.
The project, inaugurated by state transport minister Pratap Sarnaik, was executed by the MMRDA.
'As a public representative, I had been following up on the demand for a flyover in the Ghodbunder, Gaimukh and Kasarvadavli areas. I am satisfied that this long-awaited moment has become a reality today. This project will make travel between Thane, Borivali, Vasai, JNPT, and Gujarat smoother, and will significantly help reduce traffic congestion on the Gaimukh to Waghbil route,' Sarnaik said.
The next phase of the flyover is underway and will be finished according to the timeline of the Metro line being built along the same route.

Delhi Metro on Independence Day: DMRC announces early services on August 15. Check time and other details
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday announced that the Metro services in the national capital will commence at 4am on all its lines from all terminal stations, on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15, and provide 30-minute service intervals until 6am. Citizens travelling by the DMRC to the Red Fort for witnessing the country's 79th Independence Day celebrations, can choose to deboard at any of the venue's nearest metro stations.(HT Archive for representation) A regular Metro timetable will be in place for the rest of the day – to facilitate a smooth commute across the city. Delhi Metro Tightens Security Checks Ahead Of 79th Independence Day
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) has intensified security checks ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations in the national capital. It has advised commuters to plan their journeys accordingly, especially during peak hours, as they may witness longer queues during the screening process. The security checks, led by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), will be tightened across all metro stations until August 16, the DMRC said in a post on X. This may result in long queues at some Metro stations, especially during peak hours till Independence Day. "Therefore, passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly and allow for some additional time for their commute during these days. Passengers are requested to cooperate with the security personnel during these checks," the DMRC added. In view of enhanced security arrangements ahead of Independence Day on 15th August, the security checks for passengers will be further intensified by CISF across the Metro stations starting from tomorrow i.e., 9th August 2025 (Saturday). Additionally, security has been increased at key sites such as Indira Gandhi International Airport, train and bus terminals, shopping centres, and marketplaces.
