Guests descend on Venice for Jeff Bezos wedding - amid last-minute change after protests
Guests have begun arriving in Venice for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's multimillion-pound wedding, which has had to find a new venue.
The billionaire will marry Lauren Sanchez in the Italian city this week, and the couple will mark the occasion with three days of celebrations costing up to €48m (£41m).
The venue where the couple will say their vows has been kept secret, but their wedding party has at the last minute been moved out of the city centre, Reuters news agency reports.
It had been due to take place at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia but will now be held at the Arsenale, a source told Reuters.
The new venue is a 14th-century complex surrounded by water and impossible to reach by land when bridges are raised.
Amid the last-minute changes, guests, including Donald Trump's daughter, have begun arriving in Italy.
Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, were seen boarding a water taxi at Venice airport on Tuesday, as was fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg.
The move comes after weeks of protests from some local residents and pressure groups, who say and his fiancee are not welcome in the city.

The leader of the 'No Space for Bezos' campaign said: "The news that Bezos has run away from the Misericordia is a great victory for us."
The group has announced more protests for Saturday, believed to be the main day of celebrations, and pledged to make the event a "nightmare" for Bezos and his guests.

India central bank withdrawing surplus funds will dampen money market's mood
By Dharamraj Dhutia MUMBAI (Reuters) -The Indian central bank's decision to withdraw surplus liquidity from the banking system just weeks after a large rate cut and cash boosting measures has prompted an uptick in money market rates which may continue in the coming days, traders said. The Reserve Bank of India will conduct a seven-day variable rate reverse repo (VRRR), for 1 trillion rupees ($11.64 billion) on Friday, its first such operation since November-end. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT Conducting VRRRs shows the RBI's discomfort with the overnight and treasury bill rates remaining below repo rate. These are expected to move towards the repo rate as the RBI continues such operations, potentially for shorter tenors. This would increase the short-term cost of funding for banks, and undo some of the benefits of the rate cut, analysts said. Weighted average call rate, which is the RBI's operative rate, has remained near the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) rate, for the past few weeks. CONTEXT Earlier this month, Reuters reported that the RBI could start conducting VRRRs to pump out surplus as and when required. Liquidity has averaged at around 2.76 trillion rupees on a daily basis in June, higher than 1% of banking deposits. The RBI is looking at surplus of around 1%, Governor had said. Last week, Reuters reported that RBI sought feedback on aligning call rate more closely with repo rate. A suitably sized daily VRRR could have been more efficient to pull up the overnight policy rates quickly, said Abhishek Upadhyay, senior economist at ICICI Securities Primary Dealership. "The focus now will be on whether RBI proactively moves to shorter tenor VRRRs, if tendering in 7-day auction is not very strong," he added. Europe must wake up amid 'very complicated' relations with the U.S., former Italy PM says
The European Union needs to step up its role in global affairs as tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump build up, according to former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. His comments to CNBC come after Trump said that the EU was "not going to be able to help" ending the conflict in the Middle East, where Iran and Israel have been at war. A ceasefire between the two regional foes was in effect, according to Trump, but the situation remains delicate and uncertain. Regardless, Trump's criticism of Europe follows other events where the continent has struggled to have a seat around the table, including in peace conversations between Ukraine and Russia. "There is a very complicated situation, because our best ally, United States of America, and POTUS, President of the United States of America, attack[s] us every day, every week, every month," said Renzi, now leader of the Italia Viva party. "And please remember now, in this moment, there is not an agreement about tariffs, and that is a tragedy," Renzi told CNBC's "Europe Early Edition" on Tuesday. The U.S. and the EU have been at odds over trade, with Turmp announcing several rounds of tariffs since taking office. The transatlantic alliance is currently trying to reach an agreement that prevents some, if not all, of the duties put in place. The idea is to reach a compromise before a deadline of July 9. However, the two sides have also not seen eye-to-eye when it comes to defense and foreign policy matters, with European nations increasingly anxious at the idea Trump might scale back U.S. military presence on the European continent. Renzi said that Europe grew up with the idea that its alliance with the U.S. is the best, but given the challenges in the relationship, the region must "wake up and try to play a role as Europeans." This is an idea shared by others on the European continent. Enrico Letta, another former Italian prime minister, said in a Financial Times op-ed published Sunday that: "Donald Trump's actions in his second term make clear that we are dealing with a long-term strategic vision that aims to reshape America's global role, weaken multilateralism and increase pressure on allies, especially Europe". As such, Letta defended that Europe "must strengthen its autonomy and capacity to act." Meanwhile, the German and French leaders acknowledged on Monday that the U.S. has different priorities under the presidency of Trump and that as such the region needs to commit to spend more on defense. "We will live for the foreseeable future in a deeply destabilised environment, and in a world in which our allies will have other dilemmas and priorities," the two heads of state said in a separate Financial Times op-ed, adding: "We will have to rise to these challenges."
