Artists fume as new Cuttack gallery yet to be made operational

Cuttack: Nearly 11 months after its inauguration, the Cuttack Art Gallery remains closed, much to the disappointment of artists and cultural enthusiasts in the city.
The gallery was inaugurated on Aug 31, 2024, by Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the occasion of 'Self-Governance Day'.
Constructed at a cost of over Rs 2 crore, the gallery was built on the first floor of the Town Hall, covering 5,585sq ft.
Equipped with modern amenities such as a lift, toilets and drinking water facilities, it was meant to be a vibrant space for exhibitions, workshops and cultural exchange.
Initially, there was a proposal to form an artists' committee to manage the gallery, but the idea didn't materialise. "Several times, we had discussions with CMC to run the gallery, but there was no proper response.
The space can be used for academic activities related to arts and crafts, which would attract participants and create a vibrant art culture," said Rabi Narayan Rath, a city-based artist. "But it's disheartening to witness the gallery remain closed since its inauguration," he added.
Sudeshna Das, a Cuttack-based painter, said, "City artists were thrilled at the idea of finally having a dedicated gallery space. But months later, we are still waiting for it to function.

Members of the Cuttack Creative Artists' Association have also expressed disappointment over the delay. "It is shocking that a facility created with such vision and investment is lying unused. We have submitted proposals and offered to collaborate on events, but there has been no action. Authorities must take immediate steps to operationalise it," said Sashikanta Rout, secretary of the association.
Cuttack mayor Subhash Singh said, "We understand the disappointment of the artists' community. We will discuss with the artists once again, and the gallery will be made functional very soon. We are working on finalising the management model to ensure smooth operations."

UGC NET 2025 June Updates: The National Testing Agency(NTA) has released the UGC NET 2025 provisional answer key for the June session 2025. The examination for the UGC NET 2025 June session was held between June 25 to June 29, 2025. The provisional response sheets is now available on their official website for the UGC NET 2025 June session, the link for which is given as follows- Candidates are required to enter their application number, date of birth (DOB), and captcha code to access the answer keys and NTA responses. Steps to download Step 1: Go onto the official NTA UGC NET 2025 website Step 2: Enter the required credentials like application number, DOB and captcha code to log in. Step 3: You can now view and download NTA response answers and your answer scripts. Step 4: You can compare the NTA response answers and your answers with the help of the given question IDs. Step 5: Incase of any discrepancy, candidates can object the answers by selecting them and attaching a PDF supporting their claim. Step 6: The objection will process after the payment of the fees. Additional Information- It is noteworthy that candidates will be charged a non-refundable fee of Rs. 200 per question, in case the objection is found right. Also the objection window is only open from July 6th to July 8th last by 5PM including payment of the objection fees. The payment can be made by online modes like credit/ debit cards, internet banking and UPI payment last by 5PM of July 8th. After the conclusion of the objection window, the objected questions and answers will be scrutinised and verified by a panel of experts in the subject. UGC NET will notify a revised answer key and results according to the changes in the answer key if any. This answer key will be final. The UGC NET 2025 exams for June session were conducted in both Hindi and English except for the language papers. These exams allow candidates, if selected, to be eligible for junior Research Fellowship (JRF), or be appointed as an assistant professor in colleges, or take admissions in PhD courses in India.

Coastal villages of Vasai fear sea-water flooding; anti-erosion embankments stuck in red-tape
VASAI: Coastal villages like Bhuigaon, Arnala, Navapur, Rangaon and others are running from pillar to post just to make sure that the approved anti-erosion embankments are built up at the earliest. The coastline has suffered extensive damage , intensity of which increases during the monsoon as the water currents are more stronger. This has threatened the existence of citizens' homes, suru (Casuarina) plantations, resources of potable water and farmlands. As per the GR Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation MSRDC is supposed to construct the anti-erosion embankments but they say that they are yet to receive approvals from various government agencies. Work on a proposed coastal anti-erosion embankment at BhuiGaon Seashore, Vasai (West) is planned to be undertaken. However, the necessary CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone) clearance for this project is yet to be obtained, said Joy Joseph Fargose, Secretary, Aam Aadmi Party, Vasai. Letter sent to Joy by the MSRDC on July 1 states that the CRZ permission was pending and hence the contractor wasn't given any go-ahead for the construction work. These uprooted trees either rot on the beach, or are seen as harming the tourists or are washed away in the ocean with the reverse water flow of the waves and end up harming the ocean ecology.
