Robinson happy as St Mirren come through ‘hiding to nothing' at Forfar
The Buddies boss was far from happy that his Premiership side drew 0-0 with Arbroath on Saturday then lost the penalty shoot-out and bonus point.
On matchday two, defender Jayden Richardson drove in his first goal for the Saints after nine minutes and Mikael Mandron doubled that lead after 75 minutes before Kieran Inglis reduced the deficit with a fine strike.
Robinson told Saints' official X account: 'It was a win. These games are a hiding to nothing.
'You come here, a real sticky pitch. Everyone expects you to win five and six.
'We started extremely well and then we got a bit casual with things, without Forfar really threatening apart from free-kicks that we gave away needlessly.
'We need a few fresh faces to freshen things up as well. But as I've always said at this stage of the season, you're still searching for your best 11 people, you are still searching for form.
'You're expected to come in and roll people over and Rangers and Celtic don't go to Livingston and Kilmarnock (artificial pitches) and roll them over.
'It's difficult to move the ball on these surfaces. It's difficult to get any kind of momentum.
'And we can be better, of course, we can be better in certain aspects and in our decision-making, especially.
'But we did what we needed to do to win, to sort of revive the campaign again, and we will go on and try and win the next two games and qualify.'

Chesterfield righted a few wrongs against Cheltenham – assistant boss Danny Webb
Second-half goals from Lewis Gordon and Dylan Duffy made it two wins from two for the Spireites so far in League Two this season. And Webb was delighted to defeat a team who took four points off Chesterfield in 2024-25. 'It was a really good away performance against a team that we were poor against last year,' he said. 'We had a few wrongs to right and I thought we did that with the way we set up for the win, learning lessons from last year.' Forward Lee Bonis was praised for his workrate and setting the tone for an impressive afternoon's work. 'We played in their half a lot, while not being just a team that were smashing it,' Webb added. 'We were putting it in areas and when you have Lee Bonis running the channels, making some bad balls look good, it put Cheltenham under pressure. 'He carries the baton and continues that good work even when the game is pretty comfortable at 2-0. 'Cheltenham are honest and they throw it at you, so they kept going right to the end, but our boys stood up to the test valiantly. 'Lewis was excellent and Dylan made a great run for the goal, as well as scoring the free-kick, so the lads have done themselves proud and given themselves a confidence boost for Tuesday (a Carabao Cup first-round tie with Mansfield).' After a goalless first half in which the visitors looked the more likely to score, Chesterfield broke the deadlock two minutes after the restart. A low ball in from the right by Duffy was flicked against the far post by Bonis and left-back Gordon was on hand to tap in the rebound, his first professional goal. Paul Cook's side continued to assert control in the second half and doubled their lead in the 68th minute when Duffy stepped up to curl a perfectly placed free-kick into the bottom left corner. Cheltenham boss Michael Flynn had no complaints after the final whistle. 'They're a very, very good team,' he said. 'In the first half, we were fairly solid, but where they raised their levels in the second, we dropped. There was only really going to be one winner. 'You have to give them credit because they don't panic, they're good in possession and their clearances give their strikers something to chase. Ours were just hopeful swipes. 'We knew it was going to be a tough start, but we have to stick together and come through it stronger.'

Andy Woodman confident Bromley can benefit from improved strength in depth
Goals from Michael Cheek in the first half and former Barnet striker Nicke Kabamba in added time at the end of the second sealed all three points after Bromley had launched their season with a goalless draw at Shrewsbury. The Bees in contrast have had a frustrating start to life back in League Two, suffering a second successive 2-0 defeat after they went down to Fleetwood last weekend. Woodman said: 'I made a few changes to the side from last week as I saw one or two things that I felt I needed to tweak and it paid off today. 'I thought we worked hard on and off the ball and made it difficult for Barnet to impose themselves on the game. 'I look at our bench this year compared to last season and we have real strength in depth now. I know I have another XI waiting in the wings who I can bring in at any time and they are really pushing the lads and chomping to start themselves. 'This has raised the standards all around the club and we are seeing this in the performances so far.' Barnet manager Dean Brennan cut a disappointed figure at full-time. But he refused to be too downbeat with such a long way to go in the season and is confident improvement will be around the corner once he gets his squad up to full strength. He said: 'We have a few teething problems at the moment that we need to sort out. A few of the boys are missing, we still need to get some more minutes into some legs and it's up to me to sort it out. 'It's a long season and we still have 44 games to go. It was a tight game and we had some good chances, but the difference ultimately was Cheek and Kabamba, good players who we know about. 'We're frustrated as ultimately we lacked a bit of quality in both boxes, but we know we have the necessary quality when everyone is fit. It's a difficult moment right now, but we move on to the next game at Walsall looking to get it right.'
