Months-old footage shows flooding in Florida, not Thailand after heavy rain
"Flooding around (Victory Monument) in Thailand at 3:15pm today. Myanmar citizens beware," reads the Burmese-language caption of a Facebook video shared on May 27, 2025.
Superimposed Burmese-language text on the video -- which shows partially submerged houses and buildings in an area inundated with water -- reads, "Flooding in Thailand. Those who are close to the sea, please be careful".
The video circulated online days after Thai media reported that a combination of heavy rain and slow water drainage had flooded parts of Bangkok (archived here and here).
The footage was also shared in similar Burmese posts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
But the clip is old and was not filmed in Bangkok.
A reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the falsely shared video led to an identical clip published on Instagram on October 9, 2024 (archived link).
Its caption reads: "Fort Myers Beach, halfway down Estero island @ 5:30pm on Oct 9. Milton was about double the flooding from Helene for FMB."
Category 3 storm Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast on October 9, 2024, pounding communities still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Helene two weeks earlier.
At least 16 people died as Milton sent tornadoes spinning across Florida and left millions of buildings without power (archived link).
The video matches Google Street View imagery of Fort Myers Beach (archived link).

Honolulu police investigate alleged child abuse after viral video
Honolulu police said they have opened an investigation into a case of alleged child abuse after a video went viral on social media. On Thursday evening, a witness scrolling through Instagram saw a post of a woman allegedly assaulting a girl. The witness was able to identify the woman and child and called 911. The Honolulu Police Department said today that officers have identified a 34-year-old woman as the child's mother, and taken her two children – an 11-year-old, autistic girl and a 3-year-old boy—into police custody and transferred them to Child Welfare Services. The viral post, shared on @hhnewz, asked, 'What would you do in this situation if you saw this ??' as a woman seated in a car at Kapolei Commons appears to yank the child by her hair so that she falls onto her knees on the pavement in a parking lot, in front of an open car door. HPD's strategic enforcement detail located the mother, along with the child and her brother, at about 10 a.m. today in the Kapolei area. Police said the Honolulu Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, Domestic Violence Section, have been notified, and are working to pursue charges against the mother. No arrests have been made, pending the ongoing investigation. The Brief A suspect has been taken into custody in Brevard County after deputies say he attempted to bomb a state radio tower. Deputies say the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. Officials are asking locals to avoid the area of Deering Parkway Road and use alternative routes while they investigate. BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - A suspect has been taken into custody in Brevard County after deputies say he attempted to bomb a state radio tower. Officials say the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. What we know Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Friday in the area of Deering Parkway Road. The vehicle was trying to pull away when deputies arrived at the scene. A number of units, including the bomb unit, were seen on Deering Parkway Road between Interstate 95 and U.S. 1. Ivey said the vehicle's driver told a story that "did not match what was going on," causing investigators to search the vehicle and discover an explosive device that the sheriff said was a possible pipe bomb. Ivey said the driver of the vehicle appeared to be angry over employment issues and planned to target one of the state radio towers. "The individual has made some statements about getting fired and things of that nature," Ivey said. Ivey said the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. He said the suspect is now in custody. What we don't know It is currently unclear what employment issues led up to the suspect attempting to target the radio tower with the explosive device. Local reporter Ariana Bos caught in hailstorm
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — While KREX reporter Ariana Bos was reporting on a different event on Friday evening, she got caught up in the hailstorm that swept through Grand Junction. Fortunately, Bos was saved from the rain and hail by another KREX reporter, Titus Cleveland, and her husband, Maartin Bos. Ariana Bos was uninjured. The aftermath of the hailstorm left dents in cars, leaves and trees on the ground, and flooding in some areas of Mesa County. Emergency services responded to calls throughout the storm.
