Man faces charges for alleged sexual contact with child at church

Yahoo07-05-2025
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man previously charged for his involvement with a child rape investigation in Scranton now faces charges for alleged sexual contact with another victim.
According to the Scranton Police Department, 22-year-old Tara Glan is facing the following charges after an investigation from a cybertip discovered child sex abuse uploaded to Snapchat:
Involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child
Unlawful contact with a minor – sexual offenses
Corruption of minors
Indecent assault person less than 13 years of age
Ignited explosive device found inside church rectory
In April, a search warrant was executed at Glan's residence, and police say he admitted that he engaged in sexual contact with the victim on several occasions.
Detectives stated Glan had contact with the victim through the Ray of Hope Chruch, where Glan was the church's van driver and previously ran a youth group, of which the victim was a member.
Police were told that the abuse started when the victim was 7 years old, which included sexual acts and Glan physically abusing them when the victim 'did something wrong,' officers reported. Police say the victim stated that all incidents happened at the church in the children's classroom.
Glan was first charged with filming a sex act and child pornography when he allegedly filmed 16-year-old Amir Bomjan raping a different minor once in the church and once at Glan's residence, according court documents.
Bomjan faces the charges of rape of a child, indecent assault, and photographing videotaping, depicting sexaul acts.

Former Chicago Public Schools dean sentenced to 22 years in prison for sexually abusing student

A Cook County judge on Tuesday sentenced a former Chicago Public Schools dean to 22 years in prison for sexually abusing a student while she attended the Little Village high school where he oversaw disciplinary matters. Last month, a jury convicted Brian Crowder, 43, of multiple felony counts after the former student, now a 26-year-old woman, took the stand for hours and testified that he coerced her into a relationship years earlier. After deliberating for around three hours, the panel also acquitted him of three of the seven felony sex charges he faced. The sentencing resolves the criminal case even as attorneys handling a pending lawsuit against Crowder and the school district lambasted CPS officials and employees for allowing the abuse to continue and even, they said, defending Crowder as part of the sentencing hearing. CPS did not immediately respond to a request for comment. During the hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building, Judge Stanley Sacks ordered Crowder to serve three consecutive terms of 12 years, five years and five years, according to court records. The case went before a jury as CPS' handling of sexual abuse allegations has been the subject of scrutiny in recent years and as Crowder is also named in a 2024 lawsuit that accuses CPS of failing to protect its students. In 2018, the Chicago Tribune's 'Betrayed' investigation revealed failures in how the nation's fourth-largest school district handled allegations of abuse, including neglecting to report accusations to police or child welfare investigators and failing to conduct effective background checks. In the civil complaint, the woman, who the Tribune because she is the victim in a sexual assault case, accuses employees at Little Village Lawndale High School of failing to act when an inappropriate relationship between Crowder and the student was noticed by others who 'would joke about how much time was spent alone' between Crowder and the student. 'Brian Crowder's sentencing is a critical milestone in our client's long and courageous fight for justice. She confronted her abuser, endured years of retraumatization through the legal process, and in doing so, ensured he could never harm another student,' her attorneys, Martin Gould and Nicholas Wainwright, said in a statement. 'Her bravery deserves the highest recognition.' The attorneys called out 'multiple district employees' who they said submitted character references for the sentencing hearing. 'CPS failed in its most basic duty — to protect its students,' the statement said. 'That failure is laid bare by the disturbing fact that multiple CPS employees, including another dean and a head of security, defended Crowder in court.' Crowder was an associate dean at the Social Justice High School, a part of Little Village Lawndale High School when the woman testified that he approached her in the school's lunchroom when she was around 15 and asked her for her SnapChat username. The relationship eventually became sexual, she said. 'He wasn't just a teacher. At that point he was the dean of discipline,' Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Kofoed during closing arguments at the trial, adding that he controlled whether she received punishments at school. 'He controlled the relationship because he was in power.'

Sean 'Diddy' Combs Files Amended Defamation Lawsuit Over 'Outrageous Lies'

Sean 'Diddy' Combs has filed an amended lawsuit and claimed the defendants listed conducted 'willful schemes to fabricate and broadcast outrageous lies, to leverage those falsehoods to enrich themselves, gain social media fame, and promote their brands.' In a 25-page document filed on Monday (Aug. 11), the 55-year-old accused Courtney Burgess, his lawyer Ariel Mitchell, and Nexstar Media Inc. (NewsNation) of the aforementioned behaviors and is seeking no less than $100 million and a trial by jury. 'Social media protagonists, including but not limited to Defendants Burgess and Mitchell, have for over a year been fueling a media frenzy, fabricating outlandish claims, and stirring up baseless speculation about Mr. Combs, vying to outdo each other in a shameless competition to draw attention to themselves, with no regard for the truth,' detailed the filing viewed by VIBE. 'In this pitiful spectacle, all pretense of objectivity has been abandoned, as a global audience feasts at the all-you-can-eat buffet of wild lies and conspiracy theories.' The alleged lies spread by the defendants include false claims of videos depicting sexual assaults of minors and celebrities, a police report corroborating fabricated rape allegations, and secret recordings to extort partners. The legal document also highlighted that Mitchell was recently named in a Florida Bar complaint arising out of allegations that she bribed a witness to corroborate sexual assault claims, repeated her clients' lies and knowingly published false statements on national television, including a claim that a police report corroborated allegations that Mr. Combs raped a woman in March 2018; in truth, no such report exists, and the actual report filed by her client alleged rape by two white men, not Mr. Combs, with police deeming those allegations unsubstantiated. NewsNation is accused of amplifying the allegations despite knowing or recklessly disregarding their falsity. In November 2024, Burgess testified in front of a grand jury regarding Combs' criminal trial. In interviews, he claimed he was contacted by agents from the Department of Homeland Security to appear in court. He shared that he did not 'personally' know Combs, but claimed affiliation through professional connections. Burgess alleged himself to have the authentic, unedited version of the diary allegedly written by the late Kim Porter, as well as video evidence. Combs' legal team filed a motion to have a gag order placed on witnesses in an effort to shield testimony from potential jurors. 'Burgess has never met Mr. Combs and has never had any relationship with anyone in Mr. Combs's family. Nevertheless, Burgess has claimed on multiple occasions that Kim Porter, the mother of four children with Mr. Combs, who died in 2018, provided him with a copy of her memoir and videos depicting Mr. Combs sexually assaulting inebriated celebrities and minors. Those close to Ms. Porter, including her children and her roommate for over twenty years, had never heard of Burgess before he made this utterly implausible and completely false claim,' detailed the complaint. 'NewsNation has likewise profited from repeating and amplifying Burgess's and Mitchell's lies, drawing viewers and promoting its programming based on wholly unsubstantiated lies that would have been revealed as false had NewsNation conducted even the most modest fact-checking and/or reasonably questioned its sources, who had a history of making things up.' The lawsuit was initially filed against Burgess in January 2025 for $50 million. Since then, Combs has endured an eight-week criminal trial. The jury found the Harlem native guilty on two federal counts of transporting women across state lines for the purpose of prostitution, and not guilty of all racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Combs has been ordered to remain behind bars until sentencing, despite being acquitted of the most serious charges. 'As for risk of flight or danger, Combs fails to meet his burden by clear and convincing evidence,' ruled Judge Arun Subramanian earlier this month. 'Increasing the amount of the bond or devising additional conditions doesn't change the calculus given the circumstances and heavy burden of proof that Combs bears.'
