The Egyptian-born Rachid launched Retori last year; the brand is backed by her father Rachid M. Rachid's Alsara Investment Group. 'My background is actually in social anthropology,' she explains. 'I've always been fascinated by people, how societies function, how individuals connect. That curiosity is really where it all began.' She studied in London and later in the States at UCLA, where she also explored creative writing. 'I've always loved weaving disciplines together. For me, it was never about choosing one form of expression—it was about finding a way to make them speak to each other.'
So why fashion? Why not open a gallery or dedicate herself to one 'proper' art form? 'What truly inspired me was the extraordinary craftsmanship in Italy. There's a purity to it, a heritage of making that feel like the perfect foundation. I wanted to build something that brings all the arts—design, painting, music, food—onto one platform. A kind of living, wearable archive,' she says. 'And at the heart of it is the narration. The name Retori comes from the word Rhetoric, which is the ancient art of story and communication.'

When Curtis was 22 years old, he found out he had lesions on his spinal cord, which led to years of chronic pain. He told Fast Company during an interview in 2018, "It was unknown how they started, but I very rapidly became ill and soon had trouble walking." He spoke to the outlet about hiding his illness from his co-workers while he worked on Wall Street, a job that Curtis said "couldn't have been a worse choice" with his condition. "I had to stand up in a crowd all day. It was super high-stress, which is inflammatory and devastating for a condition like mine. It increased symptoms of fatigue and pain, and it brought on new ones like IBS [irritable bowel syndrome] and other things I couldn't control." Curtis remains open about the impact his health has had on his life. "My own illness and disability forced me to confront the limited beliefs, disconnection and trauma that was keeping me sad, sick and alone," he wrote on his website. "My health journey has been my greatest teacher in developing a life of higher connection, purpose and love. Through many powerful tools including hypno-realization - I not only transformed my physical health, depression and relationships, I've helped thousands of others break free to create an entirely new reality full of connection, community and love."

Blue Farrier: The musical chairs of creative directors, all hugely talented, doesn't seem to be that surprising to me, and reflective of the markets…. I hope in the future years this will be more the case. Jacky Marshall: I find it hard to keep track of who is moving where. A fashion merry-go-round of creative directors. I'm very interested to see the new collections coming up. What debuts are you most excited about and why? BF: I'm genuinely excited about the new hiring of Matthieu Blazy at Chanel, and what universe he will create. JM: Demna for Gucci. What will it look like? I can't wait to see what he does. When you are drawing the collections, how do you choose what to draw? BF: I gravitate towards a strong silhouette and something that would suit my love of painting with ink. It's usually a look of something strong yet simple. Occasionally I feel inspired to paint a closeup portrait of the model too. JM: When I look at a collection I am usually drawn to a strong silhouette and color. I draw fast, so if I can't get a drawing to work, I move on quickly to another look until I am happy.

But maintaining star power and expanding their reach to become the next founder of a brand like Rhode or the Fashion Awards Model of the Year is something that they will have to do on their own.
