Three killed in single-vehicle crash in Botetourt County

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle accident that killed three on Monday, March 31, in the 7500 block of Roanoke Road in Botetourt County.
VSP said the crash occurred around 6:22 p.m. when a 2016 Jeep Wrangler was heading south on Route 220. The vehicle ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree.
Covington Middle School relocates students over strange odor
The driver has been identified as 61-year-old James Roosevelt Winston of North Chesterfield. Winston was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was wearing his seatbelt.
Two passengers identified as 50-year-old William Julian Cosby, and 34-year-old Corey Allen Byrd were also killed in the crash. Both were not wearing their seatbelts, according to police.
According to police, speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.

According to police, a 2024 Harley-Davidson Glide was traveling east on Route 43 when it went off the right side of the road and hit a stump. The driver was then ejected from the Harley. 69-year-old by Robert Ira Horenberg, of Potomac, Md. was identified by VSP as the motorcycle operator. FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal single-car accident that happened on Saturday, May 31, around 8:40 a.m. on Major Holland Road, near Moonlight Cove road in Franklin County. According to police, a 2007 Ford F-350 was heading north on Major Holland Road when it ran off the right side, hitting several trees. This caused the vehicle to overturn. The driver was identified as 64-year-old Malcolm Randal Johnson. Johnson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and died on the scene. The crash remains under investigation. One dead, four hurt in Danville shooting

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Danville Police say five people were shot, one fatally, after a gathering turned violent overnight. Police responded to a shots fired call in the area of Carver Drive and Cheyenne Drive around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. They found 22-year-old Jay'Shaun Tiejae White from Hurt, VA dead in the front passenger seat of a sedan. Police say he'd been shot in the upper body. They say the suspected driver of that car, a 26-year-old man, was found nearby, also with a gunshot wound, and he was taken to SOVAH Health Danville for treatment. Three more people showed up at SOVAH with injuries from the same shooting, according to DPD, who identified those victims as a 31-year-old man from Danville, a 25-year-old man from Danville, and a 19-year-old woman from Danville. She was treated and released, but all three men had to be transferred to other medical facilities for treatment. Police believe the gunfire broke out between the sedan and guests at a large outdoor gathering near the intersection of Carver Dr. and Cheyenne Dr. The Danville Police Department is asking that anyone with information about the shooting reach out.
