Former Troup Co. Board of Commissioners' employee accused of stealing from payroll system
On Monday, May 5, the Troup County District Attorney's Office requested the GBI to help them with a theft investigation involving Wesleigh Gaddy, 35, of Hogansville.
Gaddy formerly held the position of Payroll and Benefit Generalist.
The investigation alleges that she was responsible for the misuse of the Troup County Board of Commissioners' payroll system.
The GBI says no other employees are suspected of being involved.
Gaddy was charged with one count of theft by taking and booked into the Troup County Jail.

CDC Gunman Attempted to Enter Campus Days Before the Shooting
The man who attacked the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention likely attempted to enter the Atlanta campus days before the shooting earlier in the month. Dunwoody officer shoots Perimeter Mall burglary suspect after brief chase
Dunwoody police says one of its officers shot a burglary suspect who broke into the Perimeter Mall. We're LIVE at the scene with the latest on Channel 2 Action News This Morning. Sgt. Michael Cheek with Dunwoody police told Channel 2 Action News that officers responded to a burglary call at the mall early Thursday morning. When officers arrived, several suspects took off in a car and started a brief chase that ended across the street on Perimeter Center East. Dunwoody police said officers confronted the suspects and that is when shots were fired. One of the suspects was shot. The suspects took off in the vehicle and crashed down the road. Police are currently searching for the suspects who took off. Brookhaven police are also on scene assisting with the search, according to a Brookhaven PD spokesperson. $1B plan to renovate troubled Rice Street Jail approved by Fulton County commissioners
Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved a proposal Wednesday to revitalize the troubled Rice Street Jail and create an additional center for special inmate populations. The proposal was approved 4-1-1. As Channel 2 Action News reported Monday, the proposal to renovate the existing jail and build a new special purpose facility will cost over $1 billion. The proposal was championed by Board Chairman Robb Pitts. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The new Special Purpose Building is designed to serve vulnerable populations and offset the future need for outsourcing of inmates to out-of-county jail facilities, according to the proposal. The vote comes amid concerns about the crumbling facility. A report by the Department of Justice last year said the condition of the jail violates the civil rights of the people incarcerated within. The Fulton County Sheriff's Office agreed with the DOJ to a 'court-enforceable' consent order in January. As Channel 2 reported, an investigation into civil rights violations at the Rice Street Jail began in July 2023, in the wake of inmate LaShawn Thompson's death due to 'severe neglect' and an infestation of bed bugs in his cell, as well as multiple other incidents at the facility.
