Anwar thanks security personnel on duty at rally, reaffirms commitment to democratic freedoms
"I extend my utmost gratitude to all members of the security forces, (namely) the police, fire and rescue department, medical personnel, and volunteers, who served with speed, discipline, and dedication in maintaining public order and ensuring the event proceeded smoothly," he said in a statement posted on his Facebook today.
Anwar also thanked those who participated in the gathering, regardless of their purpose, whether to voice opinions, show solidarity, or simply observe.
"To all those who attended, whether to express your views, show support, or who travelled from afar, I wish you a safe journey home.
"May you travel safely and under divine protection," he said.
As the prime minister, Anwar reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to democratic principles, particularly the freedom of speech and the right to express dissent.
"Criticism and differing views should not be seen through a lens of hostility.
"Instead, they must be allowed to flourish as the lifeblood of a mature, progressive, and sovereign nation.
"What matters is that such expression is carried out peacefully, respectfully, and in the spirit of patriotism," he said.
He said this principle is reflected in the Prime Minister's Question Time (PMQT) in Parliament, where members of parliament are free to pose any questions directly to him.
"I urge all of you to continue pressing your elected representatives to attend and actively participate in all sessions, especially PMQT," he added.
He said he also encouraged continued dialogue and constructive discourse beyond street demonstrations.
"I invite everyone to engage in national dialogue, to find common ground, and to build this country together, not only in the streets, but through meaningful efforts in new arenas of knowledge, innovation, and progress, to move Malaysia forward with strength and energy," he said.
He also invited the public to return to Kuala Lumpur in the future, citing ongoing efforts to conserve key historical landmarks in the capital, including the iconic Sultan Abdul Samad Building at Dataran Merdeka.
"These efforts are part of a wider plan to boost tourism and strengthen the economy of our capital, rich with history, hope, and national spirit, particularly in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, which promises a variety of exciting activities, Insya-Allah," he said.

Let those who don't need RM100 aid return it, says MCA
MCA president Wee Ka Siong said he would be the first to return the RM100 one-off cash aid announced this morning. PETALING JAYA : MCA has called on the government to introduce a mechanism that would allow Malaysians who do not need the RM100 one-off cash aid announced this morning to return the funds. In a Facebook post, MCA president Wee Ka Siong said the returned funds could be channelled to healthcare and education. Wee said the funds could be used to expedite elective treatments for 15,000 patients at government hospitals, some of whom face a waiting period of up to 21 months. The money could also be used to offer scholarships to straight-A Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia students as well as Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia and matriculation graduates with excellent CGPAs, he said. 'Rather than spending public money that may benefit those who don't really need it, wouldn't it be better to support those who genuinely do, while also upgrading our healthcare and education systems? 'It will be a win-win solution. The people get to choose, and the government wins too!' he said. Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the one-off cash aid for all Malaysians aged 18 and above, under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah initiative. The money, which will be channelled through recipients' MyKad, is in conjunction with the National Day celebration, he said. In a special televised announcement, Anwar said the aid could be used between Aug 31 and Dec 31 to purchase basic necessities from over 4,100 outlets, including hypermarkets such as Mydin, Lotus, Econsave, and 99 Speedmart. He said the government had set aside RM2 billion for the initiative, which is expected to benefit some 22 million citizens. Wee said he believed that Anwar, his ministers and elected representatives would be willing to forgo the RM100. 'I will be the first to contribute mine,' he said. In a separate statement, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) said it welcomed the reduction in RON95 prices and the RM100 one-off grocery aid but stressed that these measures would only provide temporary relief for low-income households. PSM deputy chairman S Arutchelvan said that instead of one-off handouts, a universal basic income and a pension scheme for the elderly would have a more lasting impact. He also proposed doubling the public healthcare budget and increasing the minimum wage, while supporting small businesses with transition subsidies. 'These structural reforms would provide more sustainable benefits than one-off handouts. We urge the government to implement policies that permanently reduce the cost of living and address wealth inequality at its roots,' said Arutchelvan.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) is set to introduce the Public Cleansing Reform under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), marking a major shift in the national cleaning management landscape. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said key reforms under the initiative would include dust-free road efforts, the use of electric vehicles (EVs) for night cleaning operations, and the introduction of a Single Window Payment Monitoring System. 'Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will table the 13MP in Parliament tomorrow, and among the core pillars to be announced under the plan is the Public Cleansing Reform. 'I believe that with the advancement of technology, the cleaning sector must also adapt to new innovations that will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of daily operations,' he said in his speech at the 2025 Cleaners' Day Appreciation Ceremony here today. The ceremony was organised by the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) to recognise the contributions and sacrifices of cleaning personnel in maintaining the cleanliness and harmony of public spaces. Nga also proposed that the event be held annually to honour the dedication and contributions of cleaning workers in the country. He said the work of cleaning personnel was noble and urged society to shift its perception and extend proper respect to the sector. Commenting on enforcement measures, he said the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was passed in the Dewan Rakyat last week, would enable courts to impose fines and community service orders on individuals found guilty of littering in public areas. 'Therefore, I urge all Malaysians to be more responsible about cleanliness, not out of fear of punishment but out of love for the country. Let us cultivate a sense of collective responsibility for a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous future,' he said.
