This collaboration with Zayed Higher Organization is an extension of the UAE's approach, which has turned inclusive support from a slogan into a living reality," said Hessa Abdulrahman Tahlak, assistant undersecretary for the Development Sector at the Ministry of Family.
"We are not merely providing services, we are building a humane and social system where difference becomes a driver for excellence and challenges a gateway to opportunities," she added.
Abdullah Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organisation, echoed this sentiment, calling the collaboration a strategic move toward delivering unified, efficient, and inclusive services.
He also highlighted the adoption of technology and digital integration to raise service efficiency and ensure full inclusion of PoD.
'We believe that creating an inclusive environment for People of Determination starts with effective institutional cooperation', Al Humaidan said.

Dubai man undergoes complex awake brain surgery at NMC, recovers with renewed hope
What initially appeared to be fatigue gradually progressed to more serious neurological symptoms, prompting him to seek help at NMC's emergency department In a remarkable demonstration of advanced medical care and patient resilience, NMC Specialty Hospital, Al Nahda, Dubai, has successfully performed a high-precision awake brain surgery on a Dubai-based hotel employee, enabling his recovery from a complex brain tumour while preserving vital motor functions. Raymundo Omega, a long-time UAE resident and hospitality professional, began experiencing unexplained health concerns last year. What initially appeared to be fatigue gradually progressed to more serious neurological symptoms, prompting him to seek help at NMC's emergency department. Advanced diagnostic imaging revealed a lesion deep within the eloquent cortex of the right frontal lobe which a part of the brain that controls voluntary movement. While the imaging suggested it could be something serious, a tissue sample was needed to confirm exactly what it was and what the best form of treatment would be. Dr Sharath Kumar Maila, specialist neurosurgeon at NMC Specialty Hospital, Al Nahda, took on the complex case. "The tumour's location made surgery particularly challenging,' he explained. 'Our initial goal was to confirm the diagnosis through a biopsy. It was a very delicate process, as the lesion affected the motor cortex in areas that send signals to his muscles to move and areas which plan and coordinate complex movements before they are carried out (Brodmann areas 4 and 6). We had to meticulously plan the biopsy to avoid causing neurological issues. Using a robotic arm guided by neuronavigation, we safely obtained the tissue sample without any neurologic deficits.' The biopsy confirmed the tumour was a high-grade glioma and highly aggressive, so the goal was to remove as much of it as possible while keeping movement and muscle control intact. Given the tumour's location, an awake craniotomy or brain surgery while the patient remains awake was deemed the most effective and safest approach. During surgery, Omega remained conscious during critical phases, allowing surgeons to monitor real-time motor responses and map functional brain areas. 'We used a combination of real-time intraoperative ultrasound, fluorescence guidance, and neuronavigation, all working in tandem to guide the procedure,' Dr Sharath noted. The team achieved a significant tumour resection while preserving the patient's movement and functionality. Omega was able to walk immediately after surgery and was discharged in stable condition after four days in hospital. 'This was my first surgery, and I was initially very nervous,' said Omega. 'But the team at NMC Specialty Hospital, Al Nahda gave me the confidence to move forward. Their care and support were truly exceptional.' Omega is now undergoing postoperative therapy as part of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary care plan. His case underscores the importance of early intervention, technological innovation, and collaborative care in neurosurgical outcomes. 'When it comes to neurological tumours, timing is everything,' emphasised Dr. Sharath. 'Early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention can significantly influence recovery and long-term outcomes. At NMC, we remain committed to delivering patient-focused care using the latest advancements in medical technology.'

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi provides advanced first-of-its-kind stroke treatment in MENA region
19 Aug 2025 13:22 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has set a new standard in the treatment of brain aneurysms in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, adopting the first Artisse Intrasaccular Flow Modulator in the region. Designated by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi as a Centre of Excellence (CoE), this milestone underscores the hospital's position for stroke as it continues to advance medical technology and deliver world-class care for aneurysms, or stroke, occur when a weakened area in a blood vessel wall in the brain causes a bulge or balloon-like expansion, posing significant risks if untreated, including subarachnoid haemorrhage, a type of stroke caused by bleeding in the brain. Traditionally, treating aneurysms requires invasive open surgery. However, recent advancements in minimally invasive procedures have transformed how these conditions are managed, offering safer and more effective options for patients. Innovative Technique The procedure begins with a minimally invasive technique where a catheter is inserted through the patient's blood vessels, typically from the groin or arm, to reach the aneurysm in the brain. Using advanced 3D imaging and angiograms, physicians can visualise and assess the aneurysm with precision. Once positioned, the unique mesh device is deployed into the aneurysm and fills it, preventing blood from entering, reducing the risk of rupture and associated complications like subarachnoid haemorrhage. This innovative technique is particularly useful for aneurysms with wide necks, which are typically challenging to treat using traditional methods. The device stays in place permanently, eliminating the need for further invasive surgery while providing long-term protection against procedure itself can take between 2 and 8 hours, depending on the complexity of the aneurysm. Following the treatment, patients undergo follow-up imaging at regular intervals, typically at 3 and 6 months, to ensure the device is effectively treating the aneurysm. In the case of the first patient treated with this device at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, follow-up imaging at 3 months showed successful occlusion of the aneurysm, demonstrating the promising potential of this innovative innovative technology marks a significant leap forward in cerebral aneurysm treatment. Unlike traditional methods that rely on multiple coils or filaments to occlude the aneurysm, this unique device uses a single, intricately designed mesh structure that effectively seals off the aneurysm, preventing blood flow and drastically reducing the risk of Fayeza Al Yafie, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), said: 'Centres of Excellence in Abu Dhabi continue to affirm their commitment to enhancing the healthcare system by providing specialised care and utilising the emirate's advanced infrastructure.
