El Paso Police: Vehicle veers into sidewalk, kills Juarez woman, injures 2 others
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 21-year-old Juarez woman was killed, and two others were injured after two vehicles crashed, resulting in one of them veering into the sidewalk and hitting three pedestrians on Monday evening, April 14, in Central El Paso, El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said.

EPPD said that shortly after 10:45 p.m. on Monday, the Special Traffic Investigations unit was called to assist with a pedestrian crash that resulted in one person dead.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an unidentified dark-colored Sedan was traveling south at the 1400 block of N. Mesa Street along with an Audi, EPPD said.
EPPD said that the Sedan changed lanes and struck the Audi, causing the Audi to veer onto the sidewalk and strike three of five pedestrians walking on the sidewalk.
The Sedan fled the scene of the crash, EPPD said.
EPPD said that the three pedestrians, all from Juarez, were taken to a local hospital. However, Diana Chagah Garcia, 21, died at the hospital. The other two injured are 19 and 15 years old.
The driver of the Audi, a 21-year-old man from Socorro, was arrested for possession of marijuana — charges unrelated to the crash — and he was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility, EPPD said.
EPPD said investigators are asking anyone with information about this crash to contact police at the non-emergency number of (915) 832-4400 or to remain anonymous, contact El Paso Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-TIPS (8477).
The Special Traffic Investigations Unit continues investigating this pedestrian crash.
EPPD said this is the 21st fatality compared to 15 this time last year.

CBP: Man charged with illegal entry on train; officials warn of dangers of doing so
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A Mexican national man was recently arrested for attempting to enter the U.S. without inspection on a train via the Union Pacific Railway, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) El Paso Field Office is warning about the dangers of doing so. CBP said that at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 6, anomalies were observed during a nonintrusive inspection via the vehicle and cargo inspection system on a northbound train. A physical inspection led to the discovery and removal of one undocumented migrant concealed in a hollow space at the end of an empty hopper, CBP said. CBP said the undocumented migrant was taken into custody, and records checks revealed that he had a prior immigration arrest and deportation. He was charged with illegal entry after removal. 'Attempting to enter the United States without inspection via a cargo train is not only illegal, but it is also very dangerous,' CBP El Paso Field Office assistant director for border security, Samuel Cleaves, said. 'Aliens attempting to board moving trains sometimes slip and have limbs severed. As temperatures rise above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the risk of death from heat stroke or dehydration increases. Also, cargo can shift and injure or trap aliens. Finally, when discovered, the alien will face certain consequences for illegally entering the United States under Title 8 of the U.S. Code. It is not worth the risk.' CBP said they apprehended 143 people attempting to enter the U.S. without inspection in FY2024. Seven Injured In Far North Dallas Crash Involving Stolen Vehicle
Seven people were hospitalized, one with serious injuries, after a stolen vehicle crashed into a pole and another vehicle in Far North Dallas on Monday night. The incident followed a police pursuit of an Audi sedan that was reported stolen, according to the Richardson Police Department. The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near 13000 Esperanza Road, close to the Dallas-Richardson border. Richardson police attempted to stop the Audi, which was reported stolen and believed to have armed occupants. The vehicle fled westbound on West Spring Valley Road before turning southbound onto Esperanza Road, where it collided with an electrical pole and a Chevrolet Tahoe. The Audi was occupied by six teens, ranging in age from 15 to 19, all of whom were hospitalized. One teen sustained serious injuries, while the others, along with the driver of the Tahoe, suffered minor injuries. Dallas Fire-Rescue reported transporting one person to Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, three to Texas Health Presbyterian Plano, and three to Medical City Plano. Police recovered multiple firearms, a Glock conversion switch, and marijuana inside the Audi, with an additional firearm found on one of the teens. Charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation, according to Richardson police. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved. El Paso man arrested for allegedly shooting dog, donations sought for dog's medical care
An El Paso man arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty allegedly fired a gel blaster gun at his pit bull mix dog while live streaming it on social media, authorities said. Officers arrested Jesus Armando Ortega, 27, on a charge of cruelty to non-livestock animal by killing, poisoning or causing serious bodily injury, El Paso Police Department spokesperson Officer Adrian Cisneros said in a news release. El Paso Animal Services officials reported a video posted on social media to police of a dog, named Spanky, being hit several times with a 'gel blaster' fired from an "Orbeez gun," the news release states. Orbeez guns are toy guns that shoot gel-like beads at high speeds. The El Paso Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Unit investigated the case and identified Ortega as the man in the video, the news release states. The graphic video shows the small white dog hiding in a corner of a kitchen. The shooter is not seen in the video, but is heard saying, "Look these (expletive) hurt, look." He then began shooting at the dog. Spanky survived its injuries. Law N' Paws Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization founded by an El Paso police detective, provides foster care for pets in animal abuse cases and has custody of the dog. Spanky suffered "multiple injuries and (is) emotionally shaken," the nonprofit posted on Instagram. They added that Spanky is "underweight, scared, and currently receiving the care he desperately needs at East El Paso Animal Hospital." Ortega was arrested on an animal cruelty charge. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on Friday, June 6 on a $4,000 bond, jail records show. He posted bail and was released the same day, jail logs show.
