A 90-year-old woman died at a hospital after she was hit by a pickup truck in a crosswalk next to a Northeast El Paso park, police said. Helen Clanan was at a crosswalk near Todd Ware Park in the Castner Heights neighborhood, where she resided, when at 8 p.m. on May 20 she was struck by a 2009 GMC Sierra driven by Diana Garcia Johnson, 65, of San Elizario, a police news release by EPPD spokesman Officer Adrian Cisneros stated. Police reported that the GMC Sierra was westbound on Rutherford Drive when the truck stopped at the intersection with Stahala Drive, turned left and struck Clanan, who was on a crosswalk on the 9300 block of Stahala Drive. No charges have been filed against the driver, Cisneros said. The pedestrian death was the 24th traffic-related fatality in El Paso this year. EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 90-year-old woman is dead after a pedestrian crash on Tuesday evening, May 20, in Northeast El Paso, El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said. 1 person hurt in crash involving pedestrian in Northeast El Paso EPPD said that officers responded at 8 p.m. on Tuesday to the 9300 block of Stahala Drive for a reported crash involving a pedestrian. The Special Traffic Investigations unit was called to assist in the investigation. The preliminary information revealed that a GMC Sierra was traveling west on Rutherford Drive approaching the intersection of Stahala Drive, EPPD said. EPPD said the truck stopped at the intersection and then made a left turn, striking a pedestrian, later identified as 90-year-old Helen Clanan, crossing the street on the crosswalk. Clanan was taken to a local hospital, and three days later, investigators were notified that she had died, EPPD said. This is the 24th traffic fatality this year. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A man, later identified as a Fort Bliss soldier by the 1st Armored Division, is dead after a motorcycle crash early Monday morning, May 19, on Spur 601, El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said in a news release. Fort Bliss soldier dies after crash on Spur 601 in El Paso EPPD said that shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Spur 601. The preliminary information said that a motorcyclist was traveling west on Spur 601 at a high rate of speed near Global Reach Drive, EPPD said. EPPD said that the motorcyclist died at the scene when officers arrived. The Special Traffic Investigations unit was requested, and the preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcyclist failed to negotiate the curb in the roadway and struck the center concrete barrier, EPPD said. As we previously reported, Fort Bliss said the motorcyclist who died in the crash has been identified as Spc. Austin Rhodes, 24, a Patriot fire control operator assigned to the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command. EPPD said failure to control speed on behalf of the motorcycle operator is a contributing factor to the crash. This is the 23rd traffic fatality, compared to 25 at the same time last year. El Paso Police: 3 arrested after shooting spree in Upper Valley, South El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Three people, including two teens, were arrested after they were involved in two separate shooting incidents on Thursday afternoon, April 24, in the Upper Valley and South El Paso, the El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said EPPD said that a 16-year-old male, who was not identified by name, was arrested and charged with deadly conduct and discharging a firearm inside the city limits. He was referred to the Juvenile Probation Department. Jordan James Yarde, 17, and Antonio Abel Morales, 32, were arrested and charged with deadly conduct discharging a firearm and discharging a firearm in the city limits. Yarde has an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance, and Morales another additional charge of theft of property with a previous conviction. They were both booked into the El Paso County Detention Center, according to EPPD. EPPD said that shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded to a shots-fired call at the 200 block of Hillview Avenue in El Paso's Upper Valley. When officers arrived, they learned that the suspects shot at a home from a blue vehicle and then fled the scene, EPPD said. EPPD said that during the investigation, officers received a second shots-fired call just after 4:10 p.m. along the 600 block of Nino Aguilera in South El Paso. A description of a blue Honda Ridgeline was associated with the call. As officers responded to the location, an officer observed a blue Honda near the 300 block of Saint Vrain Street in South El Paso. Police said through their investigation, they learned that the 16-year-old male, along with Yarde and Morales, were responsible for the shootings, EPPDs said.
