CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (WNCT) — Camp Lejeune had a dedication ceremony for Col. Nick Davis Battle Simulation Center, the first of its kind in the Marine Corps.
The building lets Marines train for real-life scenarios virtually. Cpt. Nicholas Royer, II MEF Modeling Simulation Officer, said they've been doing trainings like this for a while, but this is the first building specifically for simulations.
'When the time comes, when we are actually counting down the bullets we have available for training, we're not wasting them,' Cpt. Royer said. 'Every single one is going to count because they've had the ability to run this five, 10, 100 times in an environment where there is no cost and the stakes don't matter.'
It's dedicated to Col. Nick Davis who served for more than 30 years. Commanding General Lt. Gen. Calvert L. Worth Jr. said Davis dedicated his time to training Marines.
'Nick was just a good human. He was a man of God and he was fully dedicated to his family and to his country,' Lt. Gen. Worth said.

Atlantic hurricane season begins

The Atlantic Basin hurricane season began June 1. The Atlantic Basin includes the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf and the Caribbean. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its forecast for the upcoming season, which runs through November 30. They are predicting 13 to 19 named storms, six to 10 of which may become hurricanes. Forecasters are predicting a 60 percent chance of an above-average season. The development zones for tropical development are typically the Gulf, down into the Caribbean between the Yucatan and Cuba, and the Eastern seaboard. Here's a look at the names for the 2025 Atlantic Basin hurricane season: The prediction of an above-average season has to do with ENSO-neutral conditions expected, along with an enhancement in the West African monsoon. They're also expecting above-average sea-surface temperatures and weaker wind shear in the development zones. This helps aid in tropical cyclone development. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 90 bridge construction to cause detour in McDonald County

MCDONALD CO., Mo. — One McDonald County road is closing as part of a bridge construction project. Starting Monday, Slinkard Road just off of Missouri Route 90, east of Jane will close to traffic so contractor crews can install pipe and base rock. MoDOT expects the road to be closed from Monday June 2 to Wednesday June 4. While work is being done, drivers will be directed along a signed detour of McDonald County Route K, Business 71, County Route H and I-49. Signs and message boards will also alert drivers approaching the work zone. The work is part of a 2.3 million dollar project to replace the current one-lane bridge over Little Sugar Creek on Route 90, with a new two-lane bridge, guardrails, barrier walls and permanent striping. The project is estimated to be complete early December this year. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
