Wimbledon draw 2025: Emma Raducanu given all-British first-round match
Emma Raducanu has been handed a tough draw for Wimbledon that begins with an all-British clash against 17-year-old Mingge Xu in the first round
The British No1, who fell short of a seeding place for SW19, would then face either 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova or McCartney Kessler, the No32 seed, in the next stage and then could meet world No1 Aryna Sabalena as early as the third round.
Raducanu, 22, reached the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second occasion last year to match her best performance at a grand-slam since winning the US Open in 2021.
Sabalenka, the former Wimbledon semi-finalist, aims to recover from defeat in the finals of this year's Australian Open and French Open finals when beginning against world No197 Carson Branstine from Canada, while her conqueror at Roland Garros, Coco Gauff, starts against Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine.
Katie Boulter has been handed a stiff first-round draw against world No9 Paula Badosa, while Hannah Klugman and Mika Stojsavljevic — who, alongside Xu, were given wild cards — also have a tough draw. Klugman, 16, is up against former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez while Stojsavljevic, 16, will meet Ashlyn Krueger of the United States.
Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova is up against Alexandra Eala in the first round, which begins on Monday.

Injured Hurkacz withdraws from Wimbledon
June 27 (Reuters) - Poland's Hubert Hurkacz has been forced to withdraw from Wimbledon after failing to recover from surgery, the former world number six said on Friday. Hurkacz has not played since he withdrew from the Libema Open earlier this month due to a lower back injury, with the tournament's fifth seed forced to take two medical timeouts in a first-round victory before he withdrew. Hurkacz also underwent meniscus surgery on his right knee after retiring from his second-round match at Wimbledon last year, where he was the seventh seed, forcing him to skip the Olympics as well. "Together with my team, I've made the decision to withdraw from this year's Wimbledon," Hurkacz said in a statement. "During preparations, my body reacted – synovial membrane irritation – which is part of the recovery process from my surgery. It needs rest and treatment, and I need to listen to my body." The Wimbledon draw was made earlier on Friday and Hurkacz was set to play Briton Billy Harris in the first round of the grasscourt Grand Slam, which begins on Monday.

Darge hopes 'really good coach' Smith remains at Glasgow next season
Rory Darge can understand why Glasgow "really good" head coach Franco Smith is being linked with other jobs, but says the Warriors players are desperate for the South African to remain at is entering the final year of his contract and has been linked with a number of other jobs, most notably the vacant Wales head coach Glasgow's defeat to Leinster in the United Rugby Championship semi-final earlier this month, Smith refused to confirm if he will still be in charge next season, saying he would take time "to reflect a little bit" over the summer."He's a really good coach and showed that with getting the results last year," Darge said."He laid out to us after this year all the positives. It's obviously knockout rugby and when you lose, you have that disappointment. We've maybe brushed over a lot of the big wins that we had over the season."You focus on the next job and usually it's a game the following week, so you don't celebrate those big wins. But he wanted to do that. He wanted to highlight the good work that had gone into last season."He was speaking to us as players in that Monday review and laying out the good stuff that we'd done last season and the work to do next season."But you know, the way professional sport is, you don't know what's going to happen, but as it stands, obviously he's the coach."
