Campaigning for party candidate Parupkar Singh Ghumman, Sukhbir Badal said, "Only a regional party can fulfil the aspirations of Punjabis and resolve pending issues, besides providing people-centric governance. Parties from Delhi only seek to exploit Punjab."
On the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress governments, Badal said, "These governments acted like the erstwhile East India Company. They both looted Punjab to fill coffers of their Delhi leadership. The Ludhiana West bypoll has given an opportunity to take the AAP government to task and begin its countdown,"
He added that Punjab had never suffered as much as it had under AAP rule.
"The law and order situation is such that industrialists are opting to invest in other states now. Extortions and targeted killings have become the norm. AAP legislators are working in collusion with the drug mafia, due to which drug trafficking and drug overdose deaths are only increasing," Sukbir rued.
Drawing a comparison with the SAD governance, he said, "Our guiding philosophy is 'sarbat da bhala'. We value and respect each community.
People of all communities always felt that the late Parkash Singh Badal was one of them. Such was the confidence all communities had in the former CM and the SAD."
Sukhbir also spoke about SAD's track record of development. "Look around you. All development projects, be it thermal plants, airports, or expressways - all came up during SAD governments. The same is the case with all major infrastructure works in Ludhiana, be it the elevated road or the Southern Bypass."

He also urged people to distinguish between all candidates in the fray before exercising their franchise. "Parupkar Ghumman is a leading advocate who is known for several social initiatives. He is most deserving of your votes. In stark contrast, AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora is based in Gurgaon and is only contesting elections to pave the way for Arvind Kejriwal's ascendency to the Rajya Sabha," Badal added.

Delhi court to consider criminal defamation complaint against Sitharaman on June 26
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday fixed June 26 for the consideration of a criminal defamation complaint lodged by Lipika Mitra, wife of former AAP MLA Somnath Bharti, against Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman . The complaint alleged that Sitharaman made defamatory, false and malicious statements about the couple's marriage at a press conference on May 17 last year. The court of additional chief judicial magistrate Paras Dalal adjourned the matter on the request of Sitharaman's counsel, who sought time to file a vakalatnama and to peruse a copy of the complaint. The court directed Mitra's side to provide a soft copy of the complaint and a link of the video of the allegedly defamatory interview. According to the complainant, Sitharaman's defamatory and false statements were aired widely by television news channels with the alleged objective of tarnishing Bharti's reputation and damaging his electoral prospects as the INDIA bloc candidate from the New Delhi parliamentary constituency. "The accused made these utterances with the sole intention of weakening his chances of winning and for causing immense mental anguish to him," Mitra said in her plea. She contended that the minister's remarks not only harmed her husband's public standing but also caused "irreparable mental agony" to her and their two minor children — a daughter and a son. The plea stated that Bharti, being an IIT Delhi alumnus with a global network, suffered reputational harm beyond India's borders. "The defamatory acts of the accused continue to cause enduring damage unless they are retracted or an apology is issued," the complaint stated. Mitra requested the court to take cognisance of the offences and summon Sitharaman for trial. She also sought an injunction restraining the minister from "publishing, circulating or distributing similar defamatory content" through any platform and doing the needful to get the content removed from all places. ‘2 boards illogical', govt begins phased dismantling of Delhi's own school board
New Delhi: Delhi govt has begun the phased dismantling of Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE), marking a significant policy reversal in the city's education system. Education minister Ashish Sood confirmed that no new admission would be allowed under DBSE and that students currently enrolled would be transitioned smoothly. "There will be no new admissions under DBSE. Students who completed Class XII are done, while around 1,800 students still studying in classes IX, X and XI will be allowed to continue. They'll have flexibility—they may shift to CBSE if they choose or continue their studies under existing arrangements. The phase-out will be swift, and we will not compromise students' future," Sood said. "Having two education boards in one state doesn't make sense. The previous govt created confusion by running DBSE alongside CBSE. This dual-board structure lacks logic," he added. As part of the transition, all 56 Schools of Specialised Excellence currently under DBSE are being moved to Central Board of Secondary Education , according to sources. Established in 2021 by AAP govt, DBSE was envisioned as a progressive alternative aligned with global pedagogical standards. However, according to officials, the board will soon cease to oversee curriculum and examinations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo Students enrolling in Class IX for the 2025-26 academic session will be registered directly under CBSE, states an official directive issued by the deputy director of education. AAP has strongly opposed the move, calling it both politically motivated and educationally unsound. "Chief minister claims a 'parallel' board puts children's futures at risk while the education minister says having two boards in one state is illogical. But India has 65 education boards recognised by central govt, and 16 states and Union territories operate with more than one board—some with up to five," an AAP member pointed out. "Before DBSE, Delhi didn't even have its own board. If DBSE coexists with CBSE, how is that different from other states?" AAP also highlighted the contradiction in Delhi govt's position, questioning how opening a new set of CM Shri Schools is deemed logical while operating two boards is not. "This is selective reasoning, presenting illogical decisions as logical simply to reverse AAP-era reforms. CBSE and NIOS are national boards under the education ministry while CISCE is a recognised private board. Many states have three or more recognised boards. Has Centre risked children's futures in those cases?" Doubts persist over the validity of classes X and XII certificates issued by DBSE during its three years of operation. CBSE officials said they were awaiting completion of procedural formalities before proceeding with the enrolment of former DBSE students into their system. Meanwhile, a principal of a private school affiliated with DBSE confirmed that instructions had already been issued to follow CBSE guidelines for future admissions and curriculum. The current batches of classes X and XII will be the last to graduate under the DBSE framework. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Vijay Rupani re-scheduled his London visit from June 5 to 12 due to Ludhiana (West) by-elections
CHANDIGARH: Former Chief Minister of Gujarat and Punjab Affairs-in-charge of BJP Vijay Rupani, who was among the 241 passengers killed in the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon, has been involved in Punjab politics for the last three years. In fact, he re-scheduled his visit to London from June 5 to June 12 due to the Ludhiana (West) by-elections. The constituency goes to polling on June 19, and the result will be announced on June 23. Rupani was specifically brought by the saffron party to take charge of the state in September 2022 after the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ended its alliance with the BJP. During this time, BJP's electoral performance improved. The party's vote share rose to 18.56 per cent from 6.6 percent in last year's parliamentary elections. Under his leadership, the party had been taking on the AAP-led Punjab Government over many issues, including the law and order and the drug menace. State BJP leadership described him as an ``acceptable, humble and down-to-earth human being' who deeply connected with the people across all levels of the state administration. He had planned to travel to London on June 5 to meet his daughter but his travel plans were delayed due to the Ludhiana (west) by-election. His wife, Anjali Rupani, had already left for London on June 5. The state party leaders recalled that Rupani was campaigning for the upcoming Ludhiana West assembly bypoll for weeks and had been diligently carrying out his responsibilities, including attending the filing of nomination papers by the party candidate Jiwan Gupta on June 2 from Ludhiana (West). On June 9, he had exuded confidence that Gupta would win the bypoll with a huge margin. Known as a protégé of Amit Shah, Rupani was a first-time MLA from Rajkot (West) when he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
