Lindsay Park runner Evaporate firms for stable's fourth straight PB Lawrence Stakes win
Trainers Ben, JD and Will Hayes have won the last three editions of the weight-for-age feature, twice with stable star Mr Brightside before Gentleman Roy completed a hat trick of wins for the team last year.
Group 2 winner and Caulfield Guineas placegetter Evaporate opened as the $4 favourite in 'all-in' betting on the Lawrence Stakes after winning two recent Flemington jumpouts.
However, speedy punters pounced on that quote, backing him into $3.50 before the four-year-old firmed into $3 soon after markets opened on the $300,000 contest.
Evaporate tops Lawrence Stakes betting ahead of the Joe Pride -trained Group 1 winner Private Eye ($4), who finished third in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap over 1400m at his most recent run in June.

The Hayes brothers also have the $6 third pick Here To Shock, who became a Group 1 winner in a successful trip to New Zealand in February before going down narrowly before a spell in the Canterbury Stakes in March.
Last year's Memsie Stakes winner Pinstriped firmed from $11 to $8 in the early stages of betting to join Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes winner Sepals on the fourth line of the market.
Champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller has five of the 21 PB Lawrence Stakes entries.
Yulong-owned imports comprise four of Waller's entries.
Canadian-bred mare Moira, the winner of last year's Breeders' Cup Fillies and Mares in the US, is the highest-rated of Waller's Lawrence Stakes quintet.

Beaten 3-lengths by a good horse (Bonnie And Bruce) at Bathurst last time. BET: RELEASE POINT (4) to win, CRUSADER RAZOR (10) to place, Daily Double 1st Leg 4, 2nd Leg 1. OCCULT (6) was $1.24 into $1.12 when he made his Cody Morgan stable debut here on June 27 and won accordingly. One can only assume that he was bought (off Godolphin) with the Country Championships in mind and London to a Brick-on, he'll be in the Heat if they want him to go that way. OENOLOGY (3) has a wide draw and is first-up but he's a pretty reliable horse. TOUGH GUY (5) (Bullock's ride) is on such a rapid, upward trajectory. So too NIMBLE STAR (2) who has won 3 from 4 and lost the rider at the other. BET: OCCULT (6) to win, box trifecta 2,3,5,6. SPIRIT OF PLUTO (1) has won five times with eight placings from 32 starts. He has placed twice here, twice at the distance and twice first-up. He was on a hat-trick prior to a creditable effort in the Newmarket at Armidale. gets 'in' okay now after the claim. THE AFFIRMATIVE (12) has a really compelling set of numbers right across the board apart, maybe, by her first-up stats. The Anthony Manton-owned, Craig Clegg-trained local races well here at home but was dealt the visitor's draw! Can imagine LA PELAGO (6) making full use of the inside draw. TAREE INSIDE MAIL BUCK PHAROAH (5) gets the conditions to suit, big time, on Friday keeping in mind that his record on the Heavy going is nine starts for four wins and three placings. Four of his six career wins are circa this short trip and he races well at Taree. Nine of ZOE SHARK (3) 's last 11 starts have been at her home track at Newcastle. She's won two of them and one of those she beat Dark Glitter no less. LADY TULESSA (6) has nine wins on her resume which is not easy too in any era let alone in the Benchmark system. BET: BUCK PHAROAH (5) to win. VEECEE (1), the $750,000 Gold Coast yearling in 2022, sold online in 2024, has got lengths on these. In fact, I would be happy to back him in most Highways BUT with that said, I am not sure about him on really wet tracks. GOT THE SMARTS (5) has accepted for Ballina on Monday but drew poorly (13) as opposed to (2) here. She is a 6YO with just nine starts under her belt but she is loaded with talent. There is a scenario where both are absent which could pave the way for the Paul Snowden-trained CASH AND CARDS (2). BET: CASH AND CARDS (2) to place. THE YOUNG YEARS (7) is one of those horses whose 'best' is good enough to win most races that she runs in, even a Highway if things really fell into her lap that is. She goes well enough at Taree, she goes particularly well on Heavy tracks and has run okay in some rather strong 58's of late. HYPOTHERMIA (6) ran way above his $41 SP when fifth, beaten a diminishing three-lengths, in a 58 at Grafton last start. Both wins were on Soft. KAYZ TIME (1) has Sammy Conquers All and Bodhi Boy form. OSTRACISED (4) is racing so well this prep. For the record, he is '822117'. That last run was in the Coffs Harbour Cup. He wasn't great by any stretch but this is more his go on Friday. Two things weigh heavily in his favour IMHO, one is back to 1412m and the other is that he is a muddie par excellence. LEASE (8) commemorated his 50th career start with a win and what a determined win it was too from a horse who has a distinct preference for wet tracks.

Trent Robinson supports Spencer Leniu's aggressive approach, calls on referees to punish foul play
Roosters coach Trent Robinson won't tell firebrand Spencer Leniu to tone down his aggression after last week's spiteful clash against the Dolphins, where four players were sent to the sin bin and fines were dished out like candy at Halloween. Leniu and teammate Naufahu Whyte joined Dolphins duo Francis Molo and Aublix Tawha in the sin bin after a post-try melee that was sparked by the NSW prop shaping up to Tawha. Players from both sides came together just a minute after referee Gerard Sutton had warned both captains following another push and shove that was sparked by Tawha shoving Roosters halfback Sam Walker. 'I see a guy that's passionate about protecting his halves. I don't think anything was going to happen until someone touched Sammy Walker,' Robinson said, with Leniu scoring a try upon his return in the crucial 64-12 win. 'The game didn't like it with the charges and I think a couple of guys could have got charges – 'Fahu' (Whyte) and one of their players (what they did) was probably a bit too much. 'You don't want people running in from a long distance – I understand that – but I think I've had 100 per cent of comments that have been really positive about the way that game was played and the intensity of those guys. 'I think everyone enjoyed seeing it because no one got hurt, there was no trouble from it and people knew why it happened.' The push on Walker infuriated Leniu, with the Roosters frustrated by several calls this season when acts of foul play were unpunished by officials. Nat Butcher and Siua Wong both suffered knee injuries that weren't penalised on the field but resulted in lengthy bans, while Wong was also knocked out from a kick-off last week, with Sutton ruling a knock-on because the contact was deemed accidental. 'I think supporting 'Spenny' and the boys when they want to protect each other (is fine) because we've had some foul play that has gone untouched,' Robinson explained. 'We've had significant foul play this year that we haven't even received a penalty for and sometimes the guys get a bit sick of it and want to make a stand of it themselves. 'As long as that gets looked after, the boys will stay on task.' There's a reason why Leniu was so desperate to protect Walker given the halfback has been in stunning form since returning from an ACL injury that ended his 2024 campaign. It usually takes a year for players to return to their best, but the halfback has set up 13 tries in five games and has them back in the finals mix. His combination with Hugo Savala has been tremendous, while Robinson isn't taking any credit for the ad-lib play like the footwork and long ball that fooled the defence and set up a Daniel Tupou try last week. 'It's a hard thing to come back and get in the groove straight away,' he said. 'I think over the last month we've seen that progression week on week and I feel like … he's seeing the game really clearly now getting back to a physical presence in the game. 'Sammy is a year older, a year smarter, and long may it continue. 'We get to watch him all the time and he's always looking for what the next opportunity is. There's a trust there because his eyes are very good and his instinct around space is really good. 'He knows how to use his tools, whether it's a pass or kick or a run to take advantage of that. It's just observing and allowing the freedom for those plays. It's got nothing to do with our coaching. It's allowing him to do it whenever he wants.' Last week's big win has the Roosters on the edge of the top eight ahead of a mouth-watering showdown with the high-flying Bulldogs in the wet. 'We've been pretty clear with how important we think this game is. All that matters is tomorrow night. It's all we're focused on and we've prepped towards that,' Robinson said. 'I've really enjoyed watching the challenge of the guys and how they've risen to that because we know it's right there. 'Each week has been the most important week this season, and it's no different tomorrow night, so we need to attack them. 'They're a very good team and there's all respect to that, but that's it for us. We have to go after it – there's no other choice.'
