Euro 2025: Sweden beats Denmark yet again this year on Filippa Angeldahl's goal

GENEVA (AP) — Sweden swept past Denmark yet again on Friday, winning 1-0 at the Women's European Championship for a third victory this year over its near neighbor.
One month after a 6-1 rout in Stockholm, Filippa Angeldahl's smart finish of a neat passing attack in the 55th minute was enough for an impressive Swedish team on another hot evening in Switzerland.
Angeldahl severely tested Denmark goalkeeper Maja Bay Ostergaard to save a long-range free kick in the first half and beat her with more power in the second.
The midfielder exchanged passes with captain Kosovare Asllani — making her 200th appearance for Sweden — before striding on to shoot low past Ostergaard's dive.
Denmark star forward Pernille Harder's shot from distance rattled the Sweden crossbar in the 81st.
Later Friday in Group C, favored Germany was playing Poland in St. Gallen.

It was the third time Sweden and Denmark opened a Women's Euros facing each other and it ended 1-1 in both 2005 and 2013.
Sweden beat Denmark twice in a Nations League group this year, starting with 2-1 in Odense in February. That time, Harder was marked toughly by veteran Sweden defender Magdalena Eriksson who has been her partner since 2014.
Eriksson was a surprise absence from the lineup on Friday due to a muscle strain lingering since a warmup game. She was ably replaced by 38-year-old Linda Sembrant, playing her 157th game for Sweden.

Wimbledon: Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova loses to American Emma Navarro in the third round

LONDON (AP) — Defending Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova lost to No. 10 seed Emma Navarro 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the third round on Saturday, extending a recent run of one-and-done winners at the All England Club. Krejcikova faded in the third set, getting her blood pressure checked at the changeover after Navarro broke her to lead 3-2 at No. 1 Court. Krejcikova ate a banana and drank liquids during the medical check, while Navarro walked to her guest box and spoke to her coach during the break in action. When play resumed, Krejcikova still appeared to be in distress, often leaning over and placing her hands on her knees between points. Tour de France: Philipsen wins first stage, Pogačar finishes safely

LILLE, France (AP) — Jasper Philipsen won the opening stage of the Tour de France in a sprint to the line while defending champion Tadej Pogačar finished safely on Saturday. Pogačar is looking to win the showcase race for a fourth time on the back of great form this season. Stage 1 took riders on a 185-kilometer (115-mile) route starting and ending in the northern city of Lille. Philipsen's Alpecin-Deceuninck teammate Mathieu van der Poel put him in a great position to pull clear in the last 100 meters and win by a clear margin for his 10th Tour stage win. Eritrean cyclist Biniam Girmay was second and Norwegian Søren Wærenskjold third. Pogačar and two-time Tour champion Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark were in the front group — finishing 18th and 20th, respectively — but did not contest the sprint. All finished in 3 hours, 53 minutes. Guillaume Boivin of Longueil, Que., finished 57th (3:53:50), while Ottawa's Michael Woods was 167th (3:59:42). Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel narrowly avoided after about 50 kilometers a crash which unseated Italian rider Filippo Ganna. He continued but later abandoned, as did Swiss rider Stefan Bissegger, caught in a separate crash. There was another crash later when Frenchmen Benjamin Thomas and Mattéo Vercher contested bonus points for the best climber's jersey. Thomas overtook Vercher at the line on the short cobblestoned ascent but lost control of his front wheel and swerved into him. They both fell but got up and continued. Sunday's second stage is a slightly hilly 209-kilometer trek from Lauwin-Planque to Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France and should again favor sprinters. This month's race stays in France for the duration, with no stages abroad as in previous years. It ends on July 27 in Paris. ___ AP sports:
