Paytm CFO to retire from company board, ex-bureaucrat Bimal Julka resigns

Paytm owner One97 Communications' Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Madhur Deora will step down from the board as he is not seeking reappointment, according to a regulatory filing.
Former bureaucrat Bimal Julka, a non-executive independent director of Paytm, has resigned from the board, according to the filing.
"Madhur Deora, Executive Director, President and Group CFO, being a director liable to retire by rotation at the ensuing Annual General Meeting (AGM), is not seeking reappointment at the ensuing AGM," the filing said.
Deora will continue in his full-time role as President and Group Chief Financial Officer of Paytm and will also support the CEO in expanding the business & strengthening profitability.
"I have been on the board for about two-and-a-half, three years. There was never the intention that this should be a permanent thing. We wanted one executive director on the board, so I did a term. Now our general counsel is being nominated for this," Deora said.
Paytm's general counsel Urvashi Sahai will be appointed as an additional director in the capacity of Whole-time Director and designated as key managerial personnel of the company for a term of five years.
"On a personal level, I have been very much looking forward over the last two or three years to drive some business priorities for the company. But quite frankly, we did not have the bandwidth with everything else that was going on. I am really looking forward to going back and driving certain big business initiatives and we just need to free up bandwidth for that," Deora said.

GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, Amazon Pay users ALERT! August 1 is important date for for you due to...

(File) UPI rules: In a major update for the millions of GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, Amazon Pay users across India, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced sweeping changes in the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) usage rules, which will come into effect from August 1, 2025. The changes are designed to make the UPI ecosystem more efficient and reliable, and resolve issues like server interruption and payment delays/failures, the agency said. What are major changes under new UPI rules? The biggest change which will come into effect from August 1, is that UPI users will only be able to check their account balance a maximum of 50 times in 24 hours on any given UPI app. According to the NPCI, many users habitually check their account balance after every transaction, which put more stress on the UPI servers and slows down speed of transactions. The cap on checking account balance will ensure better performance and lower issues. Similarly, the NPCI has also capped the number of times users can view the list of the bank accounts linked to their mobile number to 25 times in a single day. This will further reduce unnecessary API calls and improve server performance. Additionally, UPI users cannot repeatedly check the status of failed transactions as the limit has been capped to the thrice a day, and users must wait at least 90 seconds before rechecking status. Under the new UPI rules, autopay will only trigger at specific times during the day. As per details, autopay facility for various services like bills, subscriptions, etc, will only be processed only during non-peak hours at these fixed time slots– before 10 AM, 1 PM-5 PM, and after 9:30 PM. This will ensure the UPI serves runs smoothly during peak hours and regular transactions are processed without any interruption. Meanwhile, the NCPI has issued directions to all banks and payment service providers (PSPs) to monitor and control the use of APIs in order to minimize system disruptions. Failure to comply with the rules could result in restriction of API access, ban on adding new users or even fines, the agency warned. Why NCPI revamped UPI usage rules? The primary objective behind the sweeping changes in UPI rules is to reduce unnecessary load on the UPI system, make the server faster, and more stable to ensure more secure and reliable transactions. The new rules will apply to users of all UPI apps such as Amazon Pay, GPay, PhonePe and Paytm. Contrary to rumors, the transaction limit on sending money via UPI remains unchanged.

India unlikely to allow US imports of GM agri products under trade deal

India is unlikely to allow American imports of genetically modified (GM) corn and soybeans, under the trade agreement that India and the United States (US) are currently negotiating, a source aware of the matter indicated. 'Some things are a matter of principle,' the source said, citing the government's position on the matter. Under the trade deal negotiations, market access for agricultural products has been one of the key demands from the US. It has also been one of the most contentious issue between both countries. Even in the past, the US Trade Representative (USTR) had pointed out several countries', including India's rules on GM products as non-tariff barriers. Last month, affiliates of the Sangh Parivar have said that the India-US trade agreement is unlikely to happen if America continues to be 'stubborn' about securing market access for genetically modified (GM) crops, Business Standard had reported. In the past, The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) and Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) had flagged the issue that concessions to the United States (US) in the agriculture sector, including dairy products, will have ramifications for the country's food security. Government officials had earlier said that the sixth round of negotiations with the US will take place in the second half of August — limiting the possibility of an interim trade deal over the next few days —before August 1. US President Donald Trump has set August 1 as a deadline for double-digit reciprocal tariffs to kick in. India could face up to 26 per cent reciprocal tariff from August 1 if no agreement for an interim is reached by then.
