Oyo forays into F&B, expects 5-10% additional revenue at hotel level
Hospitality chain Oyo on Thursday announced plans to foray into the food and beverages business with in-house kitchens and quick service restaurants (QSR) across its company-serviced hotels called Townhouse by Oyo.
The company stated that the move is expected to contribute 5–10 per cent additional revenue at the hotel level on a stable state basis.
As part of this programme, Oyo will cover 1,500 of its company-serviced hotels in FY26, allowing guests to order meals from the in-house dining as well as through online platforms, including Oyo's own app.
The kitchen setup would vary from full-fledged commercial kitchens for an extensive menu to pantry setups for essential food items, based on the individual hotel profile and back-end infrastructure.
'In addition to in-house kitchens, the company is also introducing QSR carts and lobby stores under the brand name 'Townhouse Cafe', offering ready-to-eat food options and on-the-go customer needs without the wait time of traditional restaurants,' the company stated in a release.
The company had launched a pilot programme in January this year across 100 company-serviced hotels in select cities such as Delhi, Gurugram, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, following which it is being launched nationwide.
'The initiative aims to enhance the in-hotel dining experience for guests by offering fresh, convenient, and quality meal options across its network,' said Varun Jain, chief operating officer, Oyo.
'To support this, Oyo is developing a network of trusted F&B experts in key cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Indore, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Lucknow,' Jain added.
Oyo's initiative is expected to improve customer experiences at its company-serviced hotels at a time when more and more Indians are willing to spend on hotel stays amid a premiumisation trend.
HVS Anarock said in a recent report on India's hospitality industry that the branded economy hotel segment, which accounts for just 5–7 per cent of total supply, is emerging as a high-potential growth frontier, particularly in Tier-2, -3 and -4 cities, where value-driven travel is on the rise.
'Encouraged by the current momentum, we expect nationwide occupancy to reach 70 per cent and average room rates (ARR) to cross the ₹10,000 mark in 2026," the report noted. ARR climbed to ₹7,800–8,000 in 2024, marking a 7–9 per cent growth over 2023.

Ratan Tata's CaratLane makes big move, plans to…, big challenge for Mukesh Ambani, Kumar Mangalam Birla due to…
Titan Company's CaratLane is targeting higher revenue growth than the previous financial year, over the growing popularity of lower-carat jewellery among younger Indians and plans for new store openings, its CEO told Reuters. Brands like CaratLane and Kalyan Jewellers' Candere are rapidly expanding their offerings of lower-carat jewellery considering a younger demographic that views jewellery more as a fashion accessory than a traditional investment approach. Earlier this year, CaratLane introduced 9-carat jewellery around Valentine's Day, a significant move in a market predominantly dominated by 22-carat gold purchases. Candere plans to open 80 stores in India in the year that started April 1, matching the number of higher-priced Kalyan locations planned for the same period, while larger-sized CaratLane aims to open more than 40 outlets, mostly in smaller cities. As of end-March, CaratLane had 322 stores, making it the second-largest jewellery brand by store count within the Tata Group. The brand contributes about 6% to Titan 's overall revenue. 'Overall growth (in fiscal 2026) … will be no less than what we have done last year,' CaratLane Managing Director Saumen Bhaumik said in an interview after market hours on Friday. In the year ended March 31, CaratLane's topline jumped 24% to 35.83 billion rupees ($418.96 million), with earnings before interest and taxes at 2.96 billion rupees, helping the brand record its best year. Profit for the nascent financial year 'is going to be significantly better', Bhaumik said. In recent months, while soaring gold prices have led many Indians to opt for lightweight, lower-carat jewellery to stay within budget, Bhaumik said CaratLane's average bill value has still inched up by a tenth, aided by new launches. Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries also owns the jewelry brand Reliance Jewels . Kumar Mangalam Birla, the chairman of Aditya Birla Group, launched a jewellery brand named Indriya in July 2024. Tata's big boost for its jwellery business can challenge these existing players in this sector. (With Inputs From Reuters)

IREDA share price jumps over 2% after allotment of 50% equity to LIC in ₹2000 crore fundraise
Shares of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) surged over 2% on Wednesday, following the announcement of the closure of its Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) earlier that day. The firm successfully raised ₹ 2,000 crore through this process by issuing equity to qualified institutions. IREDA's board sanctioned the issuance of 12.14 crore equity shares of the company as part of this initiative. The issue price for the QIP was set at ₹ 155.14 per share, which reflects a 5% discount to the established floor price of the issue. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), which is the largest insurance provider in India, has been allocated 50% of the total shares authorised for the QIP. Additionally, Societe Generale, Morgan Stanley, and Vikasa India EIF I Fund have each received more than 5% of the total shares available through the QIP. After the issuance of the QIP shares, the company's total paid-up equity share capital rose from ₹ 2,687 crore, comprising 268.77 crore shares, to ₹ 2,809 crore, which includes 280.92 crore shares. According to the shareholding pattern for the March quarter, LIC did not hold any stake in IREDA, or if it did, it would have been less than 1%, as its name is absent from the list of shareholders. IREDA share price today opened at ₹ 182.45 apiece on the BSE. The stock touched an intraday high of ₹ 183.50 apiece and an intraday low of ₹ 181.25 per share. Anshul Jain, Head of Research at Lakshmishree Investments, said that the IREDA share price is breaking out of a 6-week tight consolidation zone at ₹ 181. 'A sustained move above this level is expected to propel the stock towards the major weekly resistance of ₹ 205. While the breakout isn't backed by strong institutional volume, the price action is decisive and suggests bullish intent. Traders can consider fresh longs on a close above ₹ 181, with ₹ 205 as the immediate target. Pullbacks may offer a second entry opportunity,' Jain opined.

India set to become world's third largest economy, says Joshi
Bengaluru: Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi, while addressing the media on the occasion of completion of the 11 years of achievements of the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said on Tuesday that India has now emerged as the world's fourth largest economic power. 'I have confidence that India would become world's third largest economy,' he stressed. Speaking at a press conference organised by the State BJP Office, Jagannath Bhavan, in Bengaluru on Monday, Union Minister Joshi said that it took nearly 30 to 40 years for the country to become a one trillion-dollar economy. It took about 62 to 63 years to become a two trillion-dollar economy, he added. 'As a result of stability, we have achieved more than $4 trillion from $2 trillion,' he said. He stressed that a stable government has enabled efficient governance and administration, leading to achievements in all sectors. 'The reform of the defence system is also a crucial aspect. He recalled and mocked that previously, India had a government that couldn't even decide on the post of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Former Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony had officially said in Parliament that if basic infrastructure was developed in border areas, enemy countries would use it.' 'We have made efficient decisions from border infrastructure to the CDS,' Union Minister Joshi said. 'As a result of the CDS, 'Operation Sindoor' and subsequent operations enabled us to give a strong response to Pakistan's behaviour.' The Minister added that through the coordination of the three defence forces, it has been possible to identify nine terrorism-related locations and launch missile attacks on those very spots. Previously, all defence products were imported, the Union Minister said. 'Now, we are producing 5,000 products under 'Made in India' and 'Make in India'. For the first time in this country, we have exported arms and other products worth Rs 25,000 crore,' he added. The proportion of extreme poverty has decreased from 21 to 5 per cent, he said. He clarified that 26 crore people have come out of extreme poverty and these are not statistics from Indian agencies but from the World Bank. Union Minister Joshi said that as a result of efficient leadership and a stable government, decisive and bold steps have been taken regarding the country's defence system. He cited the recent 'Operation Sindoor' as an example. 'Terrorist activities are almost zero in areas of the country other than border regions. While such incidents are occurring in Kashmir, he said that a very strong and clear response has been given to them. Terrorists had decided to cripple India's administration through a 'Red Corridor' from Pashupati in Nepal to Tirupati.' 'Today, Naxalism in the country has decreased by 70 per cent. Our Union Home Minister has announced that Naxalism will be completely eradicated from this country by March 2026,' he said. 'Wherever Indians faced difficulties in the world, we have protected them. We succeeded in bringing back our people during the Russia-Ukraine war and the Afghanistan crisis,' he added. 'During the Covid-19 period, there were talks of millions of deaths in India and the country collapsing.' 'But, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has emerged as the fastest-growing country in the post-Covid days; it continues to do so even now,' he said. He told that India is the only country that has administered more than 240 crore vaccine doses to 140 crore people; additionally, India has also been able to export vaccines, the Union Minister said. He expressed confidence that India will soon emerge as the world's third largest economic power. 'In 2024, digital transactions increased to Rs 24 lakh crore, with the UPI accounting for 83 per cent of this,' he added. Union Minister Joshi said that former Finance Ministers had ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of digitalisation of the country. He attributed this achievement to Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and mobile linkage. He also added that Rs 44 lakh crore are being directly transferred to beneficiaries' accounts through the direct benefit transfer scheme. He provided information on achievements made in various other sectors as well. Former Deputy Chief Minister and MP Govind Karajol, MP P.C. Mohan, Rajya Sabha member Jaggesh, Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly Doddanagouda H. Patil, State General Secretary Nandish Reddy, State BJP Vice President Raju Gowda Nayak, Bengaluru South District President and MLA C.K. Ramamurthy, and Bengaluru Central District President Saptagiri Gowda were also present.
