Capt. Amir Saad, 22, from Druze village Yanuh-Jat, Sgt. Inon Nuriel Vana, 20, from Kiryat Tivon, and M.-Sgt. Betzalel Yehoshua Mosbacher, 32, from Avnei Eitan, were killed in Gaza.
Israeli officials and family members reacted on Sunday to the deaths of three IDF soldiers, all killed in the Gaza Strip over the weekend.
Capt. Amir Saad, 22, from Druze village Yanuh-Jat, Sgt. Inon Nuriel Vana, 20, from Kiryat Tivon, and M.-Sgt. Betzalel Yehoshua Mosbacher, 32, from Avnei Eitan, were killed over the weekend, with the IDF announcing their deaths on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
Saad's family, members of Israel's Druze community, said in a statement on Saturday, "This evening, our family lost what is most dear to us. With deep sorrow and indescribable pain, we announce the death of our beloved, Captain Amir Abdallah Saad, who fell during his service and a battalion mission in Khan Yunis, Gaza, as part of Operation Swords of Iron."
"Amir is the second fallen soldier from our family in this difficult and accursed war – a cousin of Lt.-Col. Alim Saad, who fell at the beginning of the war. A combat officer, beloved son, brother, and grandson, who went out to defend the state and the people – and did not return.'
Nava Nuriel, the mother of Sgt. Inon Nuriel Vana, wrote in a post to Facebook on Sunday morning, "For two days now, I've known deep inside that you would come to me. I've been preparing myself for the worst, wondering how I'll cope, what I'll do. For two days, I've felt it – and pushed it away. But nothing prepares a mother for the knock at the door."
"My little Yinon. My beloved. The whole world is crying for you now, and I find myself asking for forgiveness – for not holding you tightly enough the last time. Then came the knock at the door: 'We won't leave you. We are here for you.' And in that moment, I disappeared into the abyss. Now, all I can do is begin the long climb out," Nuriel wrote.
"With deepest sorrow, we announce our joining of the family no one wishes to join – the family of the bereaved. Our Yinon is gone."
Israeli officials mourn fallen soldiers
Defense Minister Israel Katz wrote in a post to X/Twitter, "We bow our heads in great sorrow for the loss of our heroic fighters: Captain Amir Saad, an officer in the Golani Reconnaissance Unit, Sergeant Yinon Nuriel Vana, a fighter in the Golani Reconnaissance Unit, and Master Sergeant (Res.) Betzalel Yehoshua Masbacher, a fighter in the 749th Combat Engineering Battalion, succumbed to his severe injuries about a week after being wounded in battle in the Gaza Strip."
"The State of Israel has lost three heroic young men, among its finest sons, who acted for the security of the state and for the return of all our hostages."
Opposition chief and chairman of Yesh Atid, MK Yair Lapid, wrote, "Three warriors, three of our finest sons, and all our hearts are broken. Master Sergeant (Res.) Betzalel Yehoshua Masbaker, 32, from Avnei Eitan, Captain Amir Saad, 22, from Yanuh-Jat, Technology and Maintenance Officer in the Golani Reconnaissance Unit, Sergeant Yinon Nuriel Vana, 20, from Kiryat Tivon, Technology and Maintenance Fighter in the Golani Reconnaissance Unit."
"I send my condolences to the families in their difficult time. May their memory be a blessing," Lapid said.

Stephen A. Smith Warns Gilbert Arenas On Drastic Consequences Of Treating Federal Charges As A Joke

Stephen A. Smith Warns Gilbert Arenas On Drastic Consequences Of Treating Federal Charges As A Joke originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Gilbert Arenas came back into the center of controversy years after his gun charges cost him a suspension in the NBA during his career. Earlier this week, Arenas was arrested by federal agents on charges of running an illegal gambling business, in connection with a member of an Israeli transnational crime group. Just a few hours later, Arenas was indicted, and he pleaded 'not guilty' and was allowed to submit a bail bond valued at $50,000. Following this, he went on a freedom press tour off-sorts, despite the trial date being set for late September. He called out multiple people, including Kwame Brown, and did not seem to have a care in the world as he openly admitted he would turn on the other defendants linked with him in this case. This press tour did not sit well with Stephen A. Smith, who has personally known Arenas for multiple years. In the latest episode he recored of his podcast, Smith directly addressed Arenas out of concern. Stephen A. started by clarifying that none of this is hostile, and he respects Gilbert Arenas and his knowledge of the game at a very high level. But he admitted he was 'alarmed' by what Arenas said. 'In light of what he's being accused of, however, I'm still gonna say to Gil, Bro, I need you not to play around. Because my brother, I don't want to see you in jail at all." 'It's not a good look. It's nothing to laugh about. It's nothing to joke around about and think is funny when the feds come raiding your home. I don't want to see that. I don't want to hear about anything like that.' 'I can assure you, anybody who wants to do business with you, and I'm one of those people. ESPN, Underdog, a whole bunch of sponsors and advertisers, we don't want to see that. 'Anybody that knows anything about you and your knowledge of the game and your ability to articulate and deliver your positions, my brother, you are a special talent. We don't want to see that [going to jail].' 'And the reason why I felt compelled to come on the airwaves and address you directly is because I want to remind you of what really got you in trouble in the NBA to begin with. Remember that years ago…Remember all of that with the guns in the locker room? Remember all of that? Remember all of that that happened? 'And you remember what really got you in trouble thereafter? Because, as bad of a look as that was, and as much as former Commissioner David Stern and others were ready to bring the heavy hand down upon you, what really exacerbated the situation is that you had a game a night or two later against the Philadelphia 76ers... You were joking around, feigning as if you were shooting guns.' 'And David Stern went ballistic. It was like somebody like you had no place in this league. Because it's not a joking matter to other people. And the reality is, is that my brother, it shouldn't be a joking matter to you.' As a result of the gun charges in 2009, Arenas was suspended for 50 games as his behavior seemed to enrage David Stern, per Smith. Similarly, Smith believes that to a court of law, such behaviour after his arrest may not be seen as positively as Arenas hopes for it to be. The trial is set to begin on September 23, as Gilbert Arenas could be looking at 15 years in prison (three counts, five years maximum sentence for each). This story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Aug 4, 2025, where it first appeared.

IDF soldier in critical condition from third-degree burns after suspected accident

The burns affected G's head, face, ears, chest, back, and hands, and he was evacuated to hospital, where he is currently in critical condition in intensive care, according to his sister. A soldier in the IDF's Caracal Battalion was badly burned while waiting for a conversation with one of his commanders on Tuesday, according to statements on Sunday. The soldier, who is identified as G, is 20 years old, and suffered third-degree burns to 30% of his body in an incident believed to be an accident when the base's Chief Sergeant First Class lit a cigarette nearby with a soldier pouring gasoline at the scene, leading to an ignition. G was likely injured as a result of the burning of flammable material leaking from a gasoline container. The incident is under investigation. The burns affected G's head, face, ears, chest, back, and hands, and he was evacuated to hospital, where he is currently in critical condition in intensive care, according to his sister. The Chief Sgt. First Class ordered his soldier to pour the gasoline but there are no reports that they knew G was at the scene. Sources close to G say he had previously suffered significant hearing loss as a result of prolonged exposure to noise during his earlier military service, which resulted in lowering his medical profile, and removing him from a combat position, placing him as kitchen staff on the army base, which he reportedly felt contradicted his aspirations and abilities. Fighting to change this issue is reportedly why G was planning to meet with his commander. He had been attempting to change his status for the past six months. His attempts included requesting a meeting with an IDF mental health officer (Kaban), but was denied. He also previously asked for meetings with commanders, but did not receive a response. The IDF corroborated the event, stating that "an IDF soldier was moderately injured at a military base in the south of the country. The soldier was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, and his family was notified. Following the incident, an investigation was opened by the Military Police, and upon its completion, the findings will be referred to the military prosecution for review." Soldier's sister comments publicly G's sister posted about the event on her personal Instagram page over the weekend. "He always wanted to contribute. He wanted to serve the country. He had insane motivation, for everything," she wrote. "30% of his body covered, third-degree burns. His head, face, ears, chest, back, and hands. He is in intensive care. He is fighting for his life. And we ask, how could something like this happen to a soldier in the IDF? Share. Let him be recognized. Let the truth be known," she concluded. Solve the daily Crossword
