PCB starts search for new head coach, Aaqib Javed may shift roles
The PCB has invited applications from Level III qualified coaches with a minimum of 10 years of experience coaching national or domestic cricket teams.
The move signals a transition from the current setup, which saw former fast bowler Javed serve as interim head coach across formats over the past several months.
Javed initially took over as the white-ball head coach in November after Gary Kirsten stepped down shortly before Pakistan's tour of Australia.
His responsibilities were expanded to include all formats the following month, following Jason Gillespie's resignation due to differences with the board.
Although Javed's interim term was set to conclude with the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025, it was extended briefly to cover the white-ball series in New Zealand earlier this year.
That extension has now ended, with the PCB deciding not to renew his role further.
Despite stepping aside from the head coaching role, sources suggest Javed remains interested in continuing his involvement in Pakistan cricket by taking up the Director of the High-Performance Centre position.
The board has also advertised this role, which became vacant after Nadeem Khan's resignation.
The board is reportedly working with limited options among former national players and may look overseas to fill the coaching vacancy.
While the PCB has previously opted for high-profile names, sources indicate that it is unlikely to pursue prominent international figures this time.

The squad will be led by Salman Agha for both the tri-series involving Afghanistan and the UAE from August 29 to September 7 in Sharjah, and the Asia Cup, which will be held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from September 9 to 28. According to details, last year the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed five former national team players — Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, and Saqlain Mushtaq — as mentors for a new project, the Champions Cup. They were each paid a monthly salary of PKR 5 million. However, in recent months, the decision was made to discontinue the Champions Cup, meaning the mentors were no longer needed. Shoaib Malik had already resigned, but the other four former cricketers continue to receive their monthly salaries. Sources revealed that the PCB has sent termination letters to Saqlain Mushtaq and Waqar Younis. However, under their contracts, they are entitled to four months' salary, during which time the board may still assign them work.
