AN ICONIC nameplate is set to return to the UK, having been discontinued some 10 years ago.
The Freelander model - which was built by Land Rover from 1997 to 2015 - is to return as a standalone brand as part of a new family of Chinese-made models arriving in the UK.

According to Autocar, the revived Freelander will arrive on these shores 'before the end of the decade' as a stylish crossover designed by JLR's chief creative officer, Gerry McGovern.
Jaguar Land Rover, who have partnered with its long-term Chinese manufacturing partner, Chery, will develop the Freelander models using Chery's electrified platforms - with production of the first model beginning in late 2026 in China.
Global exports are said to follow sometime after this date - although exactly when has yet to be confirmed.
To be initially available as a plug-in hybrid - which will include a 143bhp 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine along with three electric motors - the Freelander also has electric and range-extender versions planned - with the
Autocar added that the plug-in hybrid will offer a combined output of 443bhp; good for a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds.
Stylistically, it will blend performance coupe looks with off-road ability and will aim to "stand out in an ever more crowded SUV market', while the cabin will include tactile dials for controls, alongside a large screen.
Overall, the design is set to target a younger audience, distinct from JLR's upcoming Defender Sport.
Indeed, Freelander will be positioned as independent from both Chery's existing portfolio and JLR's luxury brands, such as Defender, Discovery, Jaguar, and Range Rover.
Naturally, electric power will play a significant role, with a claimed range of 93 miles for the plug-in hybrid.
Range-extender tech, said to be popular in China, will be included, and the EV Freelander is expected to feature greater range and power.

While production costs will be kept low, the Freelander will be priced higher than Chery's equivalent models - although no rough estimate has been made for its UK pricing at this stage.
However, Freelander models will be sold through Chery-run dealerships, and not under JLR's luxury-focused strategy.
It's thought that the return of the Freelander will resonate with UK buyers familiar with the original, highly adored SUV.
The first-generation Freelander sold some 540,000 units in its original run, making it the best-selling four-wheel drive model in Europe at the time.
But sales declined to around a tenth of that by 2014 and the model was axed a year later, with the model's ethos largely absorbed by the still-popular Range Rover Evoque, which was introduced in 2011.

In a long-running landmark case concluding last October, Diarra, 40, won a case in the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruling that some of Fifa's transfer rules broke European Union laws. The former France midfielder had challenged the governing body when he was blocked from pursuing a transfer to Belgian side Charleroi in 2015 after he had terminated his contract with Lokomotiv Moscow in 2014. Fifa had refused to provide him with an international transfer certificate (ITC) for the proposed move, which Diarra challenged and won with the courts stating the rules "impede the free movement of professional footballers wishing to develop their activity by going to work for a new club". Ribeiro is now looking to be the first player to use this ruling to his advantage after Qatari outfit Qatar SC made an offer to sign him "well above the player's valuation". He has referred his case to world football's governing body after accusing his club of acting in an "unreasonable manner". The midfielder is being represented by Belgian lawyer Jean-Louis Dupont, who won the 1995 case involving Jean-Marc Bosman - the Bosman ruling - and is representing Diarra. The legal documents outline that Ribeiro terminated his contract on August 1. Transfer fees could be SCRAPPED forever after Lassana Diarra wins landmark court case against Fifa His deal was due to expire in 2028, but with the deal being blocked by the club, Ribeiro said he has "no other choice" than to defend his interests at a Fifa tribunal. The former Charleroi and Beveren star is willing to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport or a state court after being made aware of interest from some European clubs. Ribeiro said: "Following the Diarra ruling by the CJEU, there is no doubt that the dispute between me and my former club will not prevent me from continuing my career with peace of mind." "Indeed, following its own regulations (as amended in light of the Diarra judgement), Fifa will see to it that the international transfer certificate be immediately delivered upon request by my future employer. "I will now consider what is best for the future of my career in order to make the right choice. "As a reminder, following the Diarra ruling, my next employer will not be involved in the dispute between me and Mamelodi Sundowns, neither from a disciplinary perspective nor financially." The case could be the first domino to fall in what could be the biggest change in football for 30 years. He's made 34 appearances since signing, but may have a chance to prove his worth this season with Colwill injured. David Datro Fofana - 2/10 - Cheap fee, went out on loan and failed, now looking for a sale. Andrey Santos - 8/10 - Cheap fee, went out on loan and thrived, now a first team option worth a fortune. Benoit Badiashile - 5/10 - Yet to prove himself, with mixed performances so far, decent depth for Chelsea. Joao Felix (loan) - 2/10 - Signed on loan and underperformed, who knows why he was then re-signed. Mykhailo Mudryk - 1/10 - Cost a fortune before being banned, minimal returns on an expensive investment. Noni Madueke - 6/10 - A solid winger who helped the club progress, sold for a healthy profit to Arsenal. Malo Gusto - 5/10 - A good first season followed by a disappointing second, Chelsea would recoup money spent on him if sold. Enzo Fernandez - 8/10 - A very hefty fee, but Fernandez has been a key player in Chelsea's recent successes, a leader in the team who has improved year-on-year, this should be a huge campaign for him. As for Joao Felix, his signing was a disaster under Potter. But, somehow, Chelsea then decided to make the deal permanent after a mediocre season at Barcelona. He scored four goals in 16 games under Potter, and despite showing flashes of brilliance, fans were left underwhelmed on the whole. Four days later came a big one, Mykhailo Mudryk. The Ukrainian was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal before Chelsea swooped in with a £62m deal agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk, plus a further £27m in bonuses. After an electric debut at Liverpool and some Conference League flashes of greatness, it is impossible to deny that Mudryk's signing was a disaster. The winger is currently facing a four-year ban from football after being charged by the FA over doping, with Chelsea now looking forward with the signing of Jamie Gittens and it looking like Alejandro Garnacho will join too. Noni Madueke was signed next, arguably one of the better bits of business done in this era. He joined from PSV for £30m and after two seasons of improvement in which he contributed to a top four finish and the Conference league win, was sold to Arsenal for a profit. There are questions over how he fits into Maresca's system now. And lastly came the most expensive of the lot - Enzo Fernandez on deadline day - signed for £107m from Benfica. He came with so much hype, off of the back of a World Cup winning season where he had become one of the most hyped young midfielders on the planet. When you're signed for over £100m, generally, you aren't afforded time to 'settle in' to the Premier League, and Fernandez wasn't. He was harshly criticised by Chelsea supporters and wider football fans - but he has somewhat turned it around. His consistency perhaps leaves something to be desired, but he has become a leader under Enzo Maresca and is a crucial part of Chelsea's plan that has so far led them back into the Champions League and to becoming World Champions. Perhaps he was a little expensive, but plenty of fans at Stamford Bridge wouldn't swap him for many other players in world football.

However, according to aviation expert Sean, who is on social media platform X as SeanM1997, the London to Miami route will be cut from October. Taking around nine hours, the bargain flights cost as little as £275 return. It is the only airline route that connects London Gatwick to Miami. Brits will now have to head to London Heathrow instead to fly to the American city. It will also cost a lot more - the cheapest route we can find is around £405 return, with BA and Virgin offering alternative options. Other European routes have also been cancelled by Norse. These include: Berlin to New York Paris to Los Angles Paris to New York Oslo to New York Athens to Los Angeles There is some good news however, as the airline is launching more flight routes from the UK to Asia and Africa. Budget airline to launch brand new long-haul flights from the UK this year Last year, Norse launched flights from London Gatwick to Cape Town - and the Sun's Head of Travel (Digital) Caroline McGuire tried it out. And due to a boom in demand, they have even added more flights to the destination. Originally offering three flights a week, this has been increased to six flights, as well as running until May rather than April. They are also launching flights from London Gatwick to Bangkok later this year. Starting from October 26, there will be four flights a week for as little as £203 each way.
