Maika Sivo's move to England has suffered a devastating setback with the destructive winger ruled out for the season after scans confirmed he suffered an ACL injury that requires surgery.
The try-scoring machine joined Leeds on a three-year deal following six successful seasons at the Eels where he crossed 104 times in just 115 appearances for the blue and golds.
Sivo had linked up with former Parramatta coach Brad Arthur at the Rhinos but will now miss the entire 2025 season after he hurt his left knee during the first half of their shock win over Wigan in Ash Handley's testimonial game.
Maika Sivo has been ruled out for the season with an ACL injury that will require surgery. Sad news for Maika and we wish him all the best with his recovery over the coming months.

'Our first thoughts are with Maika and we will all get round him and give him and his family our support,' Arthur said.
'Our medical team will make sure he has the best possible treatment to come back from the injury as soon as possible. Maika is a strong character and I am sure he will throw himself into his recovery to get back to his best.'
Leeds open their Super League campaign on February 16 and may have to hit the open market to replace a man who was tipped to score a stack of tries out wide.
'This is an extremely tough blow for us as a club but especially devastating for Maika who has fitted in so well in our group,' Rhinos sporting director Ian Blease said.
'We were all excited to see what he could do in Super League in 2025, but we will just have to wait for that now.
'In terms of our squad, we will need to review the full situation and look at all our options.
'We have some outstanding young players who could well now get the opportunity to grab their chance, and I will be discussing all our options with the club, Brad and the coaching staff in the coming weeks ahead of the season kicking off.'

India coach Gambhir returns home from England for family emergency

LONDON (AP) — India coach Gautam Gambhir returned home on Friday because of a family emergency, a week out from the opening cricket test against England. Gambhir's mother was hospitalized in New Delhi, according to the Press Trust of India. It was not known how long Gambhir will be away, and there was no certainty he will be on hand when India starts the first test against England at Leeds in a week. In his absence, assistant coaches Sitanshu Kotak, Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel were taking charge of India for a four-day intra-squad match against India A that started on Friday in Beckenham. Gambhir and new captain Shubman Gill were facing a number of selection decisions going into the five-match series with England after the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma opened spots in the batting order. A call over the makeup of the bowling attack was also due, with one of Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna likely to miss out, alongside one of the two allrounders, Shardul Thakur and Nitish Reddy. The tourists wore black armbands and observed a minute's silence on the first morning of their intra-squad match, as a mark of respect for the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash.

Cyriel Dessers minimum Rangers transfer fee revealed as AEK set to spend big on statement signing

Greek Giants AEK are preparing to push the boat out to land Rangers hitman Cyriel Dessers. The enigmatic Ibrox striker has blasted 51 goals in two years in Glasgow but remains a divisive figure among the Light Blue legions. Advertisement Now Record Sport understands AEK are keen to offer him a fresh start in the Greek capital - and are willing to spend big. READ MORE: Lennon Miller has Celtic and Rangers transfer belief as Scott Brown sees something special READ MORE: Celtic book medical for striker as Kyogo set for emotional homecoming – transfer bulletin The Yellow and Blacks were taken over by shipping magnate Marios Iliopoulos last year and he's determined to make a statement signing this summer. They've identified Gers' 30-year-old Nigeria international as the man they want to spearhead their big push to recapture the Super League title they last won in 2023. Advertisement But they will likely have to start the bidding at the £5million mark as Rangers' new American owners prepare to dig their heels in. The previous Ibrox regime spent £4.5million when they signed the former Feyenoord forward from Italian outfit Cremonese in 2023 and new sporting director Kevin Thelwell believes his record of scoring a goal-every-other game in Glasgow justifies a return on that investment. Dessers has been the subject of interest in recent windows, with his agent Stijn Franics revealing earlier this year that he had as many as TEN clubs sniffing about his signature in January. None could come up with the cash Gers were looking for and he stayed on to finish the campaign in Glasgow only one shy of the 30 mark. Cyriel Dessers celebrates scoring the opening goal Selling Dessers would free up some fresh funds for new boss Russell Martin to spend. Advertisement Andrew Cavenagh and his partners from the San Francisco 49ers have vowed to inject £20m of fresh funds into the Ibrox coffers, with CEO Patrick Stewart promising the new gaffer a 'decent amount' would be ring fenced for recruitment purposes. But Martin has been told he will have to move players on if he wants to raise additional funds for what is likely to be a considerable rebuild this summer. Record Sport broke the news last week that Leicester City defender Conor Coady could be the first new face in bolster Gers' backline. Ib Rox chiefs have already made contact with the Foxes as they look to kick off the Martin revolution with the experienced ex-England's capture. We also revealed how Rangers are in the hunt for £4 million-rated Israeli striker Dor Turgeman, who could be the man to replace Dessers. Powell 'honoured' by support over grandson's cancer

Wakefield Trinity head coach Daryl Powell has said his family have "stuck together" after his grandson Clarke was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in January. The club are raising money for Candlelighters Trust, which provides practical and emotional support to children with cancer in Yorkshire, at Sunday's home game against Leigh (14:30 BST) which will be broadcast live on BBC2. Advertisement "It has been a really difficult and emotional time for my family, especially for my daughter Kegan and her husband Eamonn," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "It's very difficult for families when something like this happens, particularly when it is someone so young - he was just before his first birthday when he went into hospital." Powell added: "He's had six months of constant treatment. LGI [Leeds General Infirmary] and the oncology ward have been unbelievable in treating Clarke. "We've done what families do and stuck together and supported one another. "It's the start of a journey and we're hopeful that he's going to be well. He's happy and smiling at the moment whilst still going through a very difficult time. Advertisement "He's been very brave and handled it so, so well. We're hoping he doesn't remember anything of it." Wakefield's players will wear special jerseys in Sunday's Super League game which will be auctioned for the charity. Powell credited the players and the club for the backing he and his family have received. "When he first got diagnosed I explained to the players and told them I just wanted them to treat me the same because I want to come here and this to be my diversion from the difficulties at home," he said. "The players have been phenomenal. "The shirt has got Clarke's name and the charity on the front of it and I'm proud and honoured that the club have done that." Advertisement He added: "A lot of my family will be here on Sunday and it will be a big day for the charity. They've been unbelievable providing support in all sorts of different ways. "I can't speak highly enough of the charity and the support it has put around my family at this very difficult time."
