Canucks Gameday Preview #70: A Highly Anticipated Matchup Against J.T. Miller & The Rangers
The Vancouver Canucks (32-25-12) continue their road trip on Saturday morning when they take on the New York Rangers (33-31-6). This will be the first time these two teams met since they pulled off a blockbuster trade on January 31. With a win, the Canucks would temporarily jump back above the playoff bar but will have to wait until the end of the day to see if they will spend the night in the second Wild Card spot.

Red Sox pitcher Hunter Dobbins backs controversial Yankees quip with ‘fun' admission

The post Red Sox pitcher Hunter Dobbins backs controversial Yankees quip with 'fun' admission appeared first on ClutchPoints. Boston Red Sox pitcher Hunter Dobbins hates the New York Yankees. A lot. But he's welcoming the criticism from Yankees fans for saying he'd rather retire than wear pinstripes. The quote got plenty of run this weekend as the two bitter rivals played for the first time in 2025 — particularly on Sunday when Dobbins took the mound. Advertisement 'I mean, you can't really say something like that and not expect a passionate fan base like the Yankees to say something,' Dobbins said, via Bryan Hoch. 'If anything, it made the rivalry atmosphere feel a lot more fun. I enjoyed it a lot.' Yankees captain Aaron Judge addressed Dobbins' comments, saying, 'I've only heard Ken Griffey Jr. say that, so I was a little surprised.' For those too young to remember, Griffey famously did not get along with then-Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. Dobbins, for his part, grew up the son of a Red Sox fan, so hating the Yankees is simply in his blood. Hunter Dobbins and the Red Sox escape New York with series win Brad Penner-Imagn Images The Yankees got to Dobbins to the tune of two home runs on Sunday, but the Red Sox had the last laugh, winning 11-7 to take two out of three in the Bronx. They scored 21 total runs in the final two games, both Red Sox wins. Advertisement 'They had their hitting shoes on,' Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. 'They beat us here this weekend.' Boston catcher Carlos Narvaez, the former Yankee who hit a crucial three-run home run in the series finale, called the series win 'huge' as the Red Sox look to fight their way back to .500. 'Everybody sees what we've been through the last couple of weeks, battling, going through tough moments,' he said, per Ian Browne. 'This series was huge for us. Every time we play against the Yankees, it's something special.' Now at 32-35, the Red Sox are still four games out of the Wild Card and 8.5 behind the Yankees in the American League East. But now they have momentum — and a chance to beat the Yankees again next weekend at Fenway Park. Steelers going back to afternoon practices at training camp

The Steelers moved their training practices to the morning in 2024, but they are going back to the afternoon this summer. Head coach Mike Tomlin discussed the change in plans for the team's work in Latrobe. Tomlin said that he is hoping that the hotter weather at that time of day makes for a more prepared football team when the Steelers get to Week One in September. 'It wasn't hot enough last year, to be quite honest with you,' Tomlin said, via the team's facility. 'Heat aids in the development of physical conditioning. It makes it a more stressful environment, and that's what we go to camp for. We go to camp to get better, and if it's a little bit more miserable later in the day, man, that's what we want.' The Steelers got out to an 10-3 start last season before fading to 10-7 and losing in the Wild Card round. If all goes according to plan this year, their summer work will help them put forth a more consistent effort this fall.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Minnesota Vikings and second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy are a major topic of discussion within the NFL. Leading up to the 2025 season, there are many questions swirling about whether or not he can be a true franchise quarterback. Sam Darnold put together a strong season in 2024. He led the Vikings to a 14-3 record, but the run came up short in the playoffs. Minnesota lost in the Wild Card round to the Los Angeles Rams. Heading into the offseason, keeping Darnold was viewed as a legitimate option. However, he chose to sign with the Seattle Seahawks on a three-year, $100.5 million contract. J.J. He was reportedly very interested in playing for Minnesota, but the team opted to stick with McCarthy and pass on Rodgers. He hasn't taken a single NFL regular season snap, but has been handed the keys to the franchise. There is no denying the elite talent and potential that McCarthy possesses. There is a good chance he could live up to the hype and keep the Vikings in contention. But, there is also a chance that it's too early and he could fail. Minnesota offensive coordinator Wes Phillips spoke out on Wednesday and offered a major update about the second-year quarterback and his progression. "I think (J.J.) is right where he needs to be right now," Phillips said. "And right where we thought he'd be. I don't think he'd come up here and say he mastered the offense. Every rep is a learning rep." Read more: Vikings Fans Will Be Livid Over This Stunning Prediction It's clear that the Vikings are still confident in their young quarterback. On the outside, there are a lot of questions, but the team feels comfortable with the situation. That is good news for Minnesota. McCarthy does have the luxury of having Justin Jefferson to work with. He also has Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson. Aaron Jones in the backfield will take a lot of pressure off of the young signal caller as well. While there is undoubtedly a lot of pressure on McCarthy, the Vikings have put him in the best situation possible. Hopefully, he's able to come out and prove the team right for passing on Rodgers or any other option and giving him the chance to prove himself in 2025.
