To that end, Rolex has been working with the European Organization for Nuclear Research, also known as CERN – based in Meyrin, a suburb of Geneva, Switzerland – on its educational mission to nurture the next generation of scientists.
Investing in the future of science
Researchers working at CERN, the world's leading particle physics laboratory that was established by European governments in 1954, have achieved many significant scientific breakthroughs over the years.
One of the most notable discoveries, in 2012, is the Higgs boson particle, also called the 'God particle', regarded as one of the biggest recent breakthroughs in the field of physics as it has deepened our understanding of how matter is formed. Other milestones achieved at CERN include British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee's invention of the internet in 1989, and the pioneering development of touch-screen technology in the 1970s.

Rolex and CERN have long shared a passion for exploration and discovery. Their partnership dates back to 1956, when Rolex asked CERN scientists to help test a new watch designed to withstand strong magnetic forces like those used in a particle accelerator.

On Thursday the Republican president finally discussed the issues with Xi for the first time since the trade tensions soared, assuring that the conversation had been positive. Xi for his part told Trump the two should 'correct the course' of bilateral relations, according to remarks quoted by official Chinese media.

Lee made the comments in an interview with South China Morning Post as Chinese and US officials prepare to meet this week in London for more trade talks. Lee said free port status, and the zero tariffs that go with it, create trade. He said this was an integral part of what made Hong Kong successful and it shouldn't be killed off. Referring to US President Donald Trump's global trade war, Lee said "just because somebody has done something wrong, I won't copy him and do wrong things." He also said the SAR government had contingency plans for a worst case scenario, although he declined to say what they were. "I don't want to talk about the worst case scenario because it may not happen," Lee said. "I don't want people to be alarmed." The Chief Executive also said the government would help businesses find new overseas markets.

Speaking at a science, technology and innovation forum under the Boao Forum for Asia, the CE said the SAR is committed to free and open collaboration with different governments and organisations. "For innovation to thrive, it must be rooted in international cooperation. The exchange of knowledge, talent and ideas should be open and free, without borders, without boundaries, without tariffs," Lee said. "[As] a long-standing champion of multilateralism and a rules-based global economy, Hong Kong is deeply committed to building collaboration among governments, businesses and academic institutions everywhere." He said with the nation's unwavering support, Hong Kong has made progress in innovation and technology, and a continuing drive to further research and development will help the city advance in frontier industries. "We stand at the consequential crossroads in human history, a moment where artificial intelligence and health technology converge not just as tools, but the architects of our evolution into the new era of development," Lee said. "Hong Kong is committed to the development of these frontier industries." Lee added that the Hong Kong part of the Hetao cooperation zone with Shenzhen is expected to be operational within this year.
