Meghan Markle's 'demanding' phone call with Anna Wintour that sparked Vogue chaos

Daily Record6 days ago

Meghan Markle reportedly went over Edward Enninful's head to Anna Wintour to ask for a US and UK cover of Vogue after the then-editor refused her six demands.
When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, guest edited an issue of British Vogue in 2019, it flew off the shelves in just 10 days, becoming the fastest-selling issue in the history of the renowned fashion magazine.
The Forces for Change issue saw Meghan reportedly spend seven months working closely with former Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful on the issue that featured inspiring, trailblazing women.

However, fresh reports have suggested that Meghan made "demands" to the Vogue editorial team that led to an alleged falling out between the Duchess and Enninful - with Meghan said to have even approached US Vogue boss Anna Wintour with her requests after her friend had said they simply weren't possible to fulfil at that time.

Meghan had been offered "extensive features across the magazine and its digital editions" that would have included coverage of her speech at the One World Summit in Manchester, reports the Mirror.
However, one publication reports that Meghan sent Enninful a list of six requests to go ahead with the planned articles: "Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue," a source told Page Six. Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé."
Meghan is reported to have asked to be featured on the covers of the September issues of the fashion magazine in the US and UK, but on both sides of the Atlantic, Vogue editors had already booked cover stars, so it wasn't possible to give her what she wanted.
Serena Williams, who is close pals with Meghan, was lined up for the US magazine front, while supermodel Linda Evangelista graced the UK's cover. Despite Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful reportedly telling Meghan it wasn't doable to meet her six stipulations, it's claimed that the Duchess went over his head directly to Vogue supremo Anna Wintour.
Wintour, the inspiration behind the formidable character in 'The Devil Wears Prada', was not swayed by Meghan's attempt to secure a double cover coup. "Anna wasn't interested," a source relayed to Page Six. "Meghan asked for a Zoom with her to reconsider, and Anna did it to be polite.

"There's talk of Enninful turning down the requests from the Duchess, sparking a bit of a tiff between them, although sources seem divided on how strained things actually got. Reportedly, Meghan ditched the planned spread after being rebuffed by both Enninful and Wintour, leaving Enninful seething."
A spokesperson told The Daily Mail: "The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations.""He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month. Edward was furious to have lost the project, as were the powers that be at Condé Nast."

Adding more context, the source noted: "The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online - but she turned it down. "
An insider informed the Mail that there's been a significant falling out between the Duchess and her one-time pal, the ex-British Vogue editor, resulting in the two not speaking to each other anymore.
Contrastingly, individuals speaking to Page Six maintain that despite previous disagreements regarding the extent of Meghan's visibility in 2022, the pair maintain a "warm and respectful" rapport, reportedly still exchanging birthday wishes and occasionally sending flowers to each other.
While Meghan has not yet graced the cover of the prestigious fashion magazine, Princess Kate made headlines with her appearance on Vogue in 2016 for its centenary edition, complete with a multi-page, glossy feature celebrating her affection for rural life.
Vogue also famously spotlighted Princess Diana on its front page four times, while Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have been covered extensively with interviews and features in the publication.Recently, there has been buzz around Princess Kate being presented with an opportunity for a "global cover" on the magazine, suggesting she might dominate both the UK and US editions.
Reports from the Mail suggest she could be given substantial editorial influence, including choosing her own photographer, dictating fashion pieces, and deciding on whether to partake in an interview or not. It was reported that Anna Wintour made the offer herself, but a month later, she denied any knowledge of it during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace where she was made a Companion of Honour by King Charles, saying: "Yeah, I don't know where those have come from, do you?".

Meghan Markle 'trying to rewrite memories' but 'failing to recognise struggles'

As Meghan Markle has began opening up more about her two pregnancies, a psychologist shares how the Duchess Of Sussex is trying to 'rewrite memories', but excluding struggles. Experts have revealed how Meghan Markle may be failing to recognise her struggles as a mother and presenting an 'overly polished' image, after the duchess gave an intimate insight into her pregnancies with her children Archie and Lilibet last week. Explaining that she gained just over 4½st during each pregnancy, she said, 'I always wear my five-inch, pointy-toed stilettos. You have the most enormous bump and your tiny little ankles are bracing themselves in these high heels... So you're just going, how on earth am I not just tipping, you know, face-planting? I was clinging very closely to my husband, like, 'Please don't let me fall.'' ‌ But as well as the more humorous memories, Meghan, 43, also opened up about sometimes feeling consumed by motherhood. 'People forget that Lili is three, and Archie is five. So you look at the past five, six years of my life, it's yes, with being pregnant or with a newborn or with a toddler, and then another one.' ‌ According to psychologist Stefan Walters, Meghan's increasingly frequent disclosures on her Confessions Of A Female Founder podcast could well be a sign that she is feeling broody. 'Women often romanticise and enjoy that stage of pregnancy and having a newborn baby, and want to really share that with the world at large because it can be such a unique and beautiful time,' he tells Mirror. ‌ Stefan also suggests that Meghan's podcast has given her a much-needed platform to be able to work through some of the traumatic episodes she experienced during her pregnancy and the early years. During one shocking interview at the end of the Sussexes' official tour to South Africa shortly after Archie's birth, Meghan seemed to be struggling under the weight of the spotlight amid the growing tensions with their extended royal family. When a reporter asked how she was coping, Meghan responded, 'Any woman, especially when you're pregnant, you're really vulnerable, so that was made really challenging. So then when you have a newborn… especially as a woman, it's a lot.' ‌ According to Stefan, Meghan's recent personal disclosures could be rewriting some of these memories. 'There's an element of getting a second chance here,' he explains. 'Pregnancy was a difficult, painful time for them, and at times she seemed to be struggling. It wasn't necessarily associated with a lot of happy memories. 'So, now she's perhaps feeling that she's able to create and relive some happy memories around pregnancy and the early years of her children's lives.' ‌ Speaking recently about those hazy early months of new motherhood, Meghan recently confessed that, despite always wanting to be a mum, it didn't go as she had imagined or hoped. 'I was like 'Oh gosh, I'm going to give a speech with a baby on my hip,'' she revealed on her podcast. 'I had a whole vision – and then you fast forward… granted, I had a lot of external things happening by the time I had both pregnancies and both babies. But it was not the way I envisioned it.' Today, her glossy Instagram feed is packed with personal posts featuring Harry, 40, and, increasingly, their children, including a sweet recent clip of her and Lilibet, who turns four this week, beekeeping in matching bee suits, and her wedding anniversary montage. ‌ The latter featured a baby scan labelled Archie, who turned six in May, as well as one of Harry cradling one of the children as a newborn. It's in stark contrast to the protocol that governs most working royals, when family photos are generally only released on occasions like birthdays or at Christmas. Indeed, Stefan believes Meghan appears to be embracing the freedom of no longer being bound by strict royal rules. 'I think she's partly creating a platform for herself, because she was ridiculed publicly and when she and Harry left the UK, there was a lot of scorn directed at them. By doing her podcast she now has a brand, but more importantly a voice. ‌ 'She probably feels that she wasn't allowed to have an authentic voice before because it went against what the royal protocol was, and it went against the brand of the royals. So she's creating an authentic voice and just being honest and open.' Branding expert Lynn Carratt claims the couple, and Meghan in particular, are walking a bit of a PR tightrope when it comes to their public image because there's a fine line between sharing the positives of their life and appearing 'overly polished'. 'While recent glimpses into her life hint at a softer side, some of the narratives still feel unattainable for many people,' she says. But Lynn says it's a definite 'positive shift' to see the pair focusing on their life in California as a family of four, rather than in conversations involving the wider royal family. 'I think their future PR strategy should aim to portray a family image that is still positive but maybe more grounded and relatable,' she adds. 'Life isn't perfect – and acknowledging the struggles, much like she does when discussing the challenges of running a business with two young children on her podcast, would resonate more authentically with the public.'

Hailey Bieber flips middle finger at Kendall Jenner and flashes paintball gun in wild showdown

blew off steam amid mounting rumors of trouble with husband Justin Bieber — and she did it with a paintball gun in one hand and her middle finger in the air. The 28-year-old supermodel was spotted playing paintball with her BFF Kendall Jenner, but the friendly outing took a hilarious turn when Hailey flipped the bird at Kendall in a snap shared online. The eyebrow-raising moment came just as Hailey was riding a wave of back-to-back wins — landing the cover of Vogue and reportedly selling her Rhode beauty brand for a staggering $1 billion. But instead of celebrating her success, Justin threw shade — or silence. The singer reposted news of Hailey's Rhode deal without a single word of praise. And fans didn't miss the fact that he once said Hailey would never be on Vogue — a dig he revealed just as a 2020 clip went viral showing him telling Hailey he'd have dumped her 'a long time ago' if it weren't for her looks. Suited up in black tactical gear and a full face shield, Hailey raised her paintball gun and her middle finger for the camera. Her mask was splattered in pink, suggesting Kendall had nailed a direct hit — and Hailey's gesture might've been a playful payback. The outing comes less than a week after Kendall and sister Kylie Jenner treated Hailey to an epic girls' night in what fans saw as a show of support. Earlier this month, Justin faced major backlash after admitting he once harshly told Hailey she'd never land a Vogue cover during an argument. That same day, as his wife celebrated achieving that very milestone, the embattled pop star sparked controversy with his Instagram post meant to congratulate her. His attempt at humor didn't sit well with fans, as he explained why the Vogue cover felt like a full-circle moment for their relationship. 'Yo this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight. I told Hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue. The video resurfaced just as Hailey's Vogue interview was making headlines, where she opened up about working with a team to return to her pre-pregnancy body after welcoming their son Jack last year — a vulnerable moment now overshadowed by Justin's remark 'Yikes, I know, so mean. For some reason because I felt so disrespected I thought I gotta get even,' he explained. Justin continued: 'Think as we mature we realize that we're not helping anything by getting even... we're honestly just prolonging what we really want which is intimacy and connection.' He concluded his post by writing a message directly to Hailey, which read: 'So baby u already know but forgive me for saying u wouldn't get a Vogue cover cuz clearly I was sadly mistaken.' Many saw his caption as a backhanded compliment and something 'so unnecessary' to share with his more than 294 million Instagram followers. 'It's okay to have secrets Justin,' one commented. Another wrote: 'You couldn't waterboard this information out of me lmao.' 'Why would you write something like that... put that phone down please,' a third urged. Others criticized him for accidentally writing 'sadly mistaken' versus 'happily' mistaken, since he obviously meant to congratulate her on the achievement. A source later told that Justin and Hailey are often 'at each other's throats,' and the heated fight he mentioned was nothing unusual for the couple; seen in 2022 in Las Vegas A source later told that Justin and Hailey are often 'at each other's throats,' and the heated fight he mentioned was nothing unusual for the couple. So when Justin tried to , fans weren't exactly impressed. In the wake of Justin's confession, fans of his wife highlighted past incidents in which he had allegedly displayed 'unsupportive behavior' toward his wife to contextualize the Vogue controversy. Some fans even claimed that the disheveled way he often dresses for public events with Hailey betrays a lack of respect.

Sydney Sweeney admits she 'loves' single life as she confirms split from fiancé

Sydney Sweeney has finally confirmed she is single after reportedly splitting from her fiancé earlier this year, and has spoken out about her relationship with co-star Glen Powell. Sydney Sweeney has finally revealed that she is single following her rumoured split from fiancé Jonathan Davino earlier this year, which saw the actress call off her planned wedding to the film producer. Confirming her single status, Sydney told The Sunday Times: 'I'm learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends. And I'm loving it.' ‌ Sydney was with Jonathan for seven years, with the pair planning to get married in May but instead splitting up just weeks before in January, according to reports. The actress hasn't divulged what led to the split, but according to Page Six, the split came as she was "extremely busy" with her acting career which brought new added "tension" to their relationship. ‌ The source said in April, before the split was confirmed: "Things are also always tense between them when she is promoting a movie because she has to give her full attention to the project, and people always speculate about their relationship and Sydney being close to her co-stars. It's a tough dynamic for Jonathan.' While the clarity comes after months of speculation around the couple, it's not the only question fans have been waiting for the actress to answer. ‌ Since the release of 2023 rom com Anyone But You, many wondering whether there was romance or just some really good marketing between Sydney, 27, and her co-star Glen Powell. The duo appeared increasingly close during the filming and marketing of the movie, and were spotted in April looking close as Sydney joined Glen, 36, in attending his sister, Leslie's wedding rehearsal dinner. In photos shared by gossip site DeuxMoi, Sydney was seen spending time with his family in Texas at the time. ‌ The actress was also spotted having brunch with some of Glen's family, while the Top Gun: Maverick star was absent according to a source. The joint appearance came as Sydney's split from her fiancé came to light, leading many to wonder whether the two were connected. However, Sydney says it's all platonic between the pair, who save the steamy stuff for being in front of the camera. 'It's always beautiful to see people fall in love with characters and be really supportive of stuff that they see on screen,' said The White Lotus star Sydney. She continued to clarify: "Glenn and I adore each other, so I think we were so happy for the reception of the film.' Adding that they are still close, Sydney said: 'When you spend so much time with someone, you become close and you talk to each other about anything. So work, life, family, friends, he's just there for me. I'm there for him.' We'll sleep easier with that clarity.
