Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar condemns Pahalgam terror attack, recalls Chittisinghpura massacre
The officiating Jathedar of the Sri Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, has strongly condemned Tuesday's terrorist attack in South Kashmir's Pahalgam. Expressing grief over the incident, he extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed.
At least 26 people died and 10 others were injured when terrorists opened fire at tourists in Baisaran, a popular destination accessible only by foot.
On Wednesday, the Jathedar said the tragic incident reminded him of the March 2000 massacre at Chittisinghpura in Kashmir's Anantnag. Around 35 Sikhs were killed in the attack. He emphasised the 'need for justice' in the wake of the latest incident in Pahalgam and sought 'that the truth behind the Chittisinghpura massacre be revealed as well' so that the affected families finally receive justice.
Jathedar Gargaj offered prayers before the Akal Purakh (True One Being) to grant 'eternal peace to the departed souls' and strength to the bereaved families 'to accept His will'. He also prayed that such inhumane acts 'may never occur anywhere in the world' and for peace and harmony to prevail across the country and the world.
Preliminary probe into Tuesday's attack has indicated that at least four terrorists, wearing camouflage outfits, opened fire at the Baisaran meadow with American-made M4 carbine assault rifles and AK-47s. Many of the victims were holidaying with families at the tourist destination at the time of the attack.

3 held for supplying illegal liquor using luxury vehicles
Bhopal: Police arrested three bootleggers involved in the transportation of illegal liquor using luxury vehicles in Berasia and Khajuri areas. Police seized large quantities of illicit alcohol and the high-end vehicles used in the smuggling operations. Cases were registered against the accused under the Excise Act. According to Berasia Police, a tip-off was received about a white SUV transporting illegal liquor from Khejda Mishr village towards Sironj. Acting on the information, police set up a checkpoint on Khejda Road and intercepted an SUV matching the given description. Upon inspection, 17 cartons of illegal liquor were recovered from the vehicle. The seized liquor was estimated to be worth Rs 72,000, and the SUV, valued at Rs 10 lakh, was also seized. Two accused, Pankaj Sahu, 25, and Sachin Ahirwar, 23, both residents of Berasia, were arrested at the scene. They were produced before the court after a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Excise Act. In a separate incident, Khajuri Police received intelligence during a night patrol about a white car transporting illegal liquor from Sehore to Bhopal. Police set up a checkpoint near Tumda Jod in Phanda village. A vehicle matching the description was soon spotted. When signalled to stop, the driver abandoned the car and attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief accused, identified as Piyush Yadav, was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed 30 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), valued at Rs 48,000. A case under the Excise Act was filed.

Five more Maoists killed in op in which top guns Sudhakar & Bhaskar were eliminated
Raipur: Seven Maoists – including central committee member Sudhakar and another top commander, Bhaskar – have been killed in an operation that is on in Indravati National Park area of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, Bastar police said on Saturday. Sudhakar, the ideological chief of Maoists, was gunned down on Thursday and Bhaskar, a Telangana State Committee Member, on Friday. Skirmishes continued all night and on Saturday, the bodies of five more cadres were found. Two of them are women. Police are trying to identify them. Other high-level Maoist operatives, including Telangana State Committee's press in-charge Bandi Prakash, have been spotted in the encounter zone. With this operation, sources say, security forces have foiled a crucial Maoist attempt to coordinate their activities in the region following the encounter killing of CPI(Maoist) general secretary Basavaraju. Security forces have been battling not only insurgents' bullets and treacherous hilly terrain, but also snakes and other threats in the wild as the operation continues deep inside the jungles. He was the third central committee member to be killed in Bastar this year after Jai Ram alias Chalpathy on Jan 21 and Basavaraju on May 21.
