Amazon (AMZN) Reveals New AI Tools Designed to Improve Operations
Earlier today, e-commerce giant Amazon (AMZN) revealed three new AI technologies designed to deliver more value to its customers, employees, and delivery partners. Indeed, the company introduced a generative AI mapping system known as Wellspring, along with an AI-powered demand forecasting model that supports its supply chain, and new agentic AI capabilities for robotics. These tools will help provide more accurate delivery locations, faster shipping options, and better product availability, which will make it easier for customers to get what they want, when they want it.

Interestingly, Wellspring uses data from satellite images, road networks, building layouts, customer instructions, past deliveries, and street views to improve how accurately Amazon delivers packages to millions of locations. This technology is especially helpful for navigating complex areas, like multi-building apartments or new neighborhoods that don't yet appear on maps. In addition, Amazon's new AI forecasting model now factors in time-based data, like weather and holidays, to better predict what products customers will want and where to position them in the supply chain.
Amazon also launched a new agentic AI team within Amazon Robotics with the goal of creating AI that allows 'robots to hear, understand natural language, reason about it, and act autonomously.' Using Vision Language Models and robotic action policies, robots will soon be able to follow plain language instructions. This will make robots like Amazon's Proteus, which already moves customer orders, more versatile by being able to handle heavy items in tight spaces, while allowing human employees to focus on more complex and creative work.

New resale retailer coming to San Angelo
SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The first liquidation store in San Angelo is beginning construction in an old dance hall. Gov. Shapiro delivers commencement address at West Scranton High School
Jun. 12—SCRANTON — Gov. Josh Shapiro on Wednesday told the West Scranton High School Class of 2025 graduating class that there are many different paths that their journey can take them down. "And hear me on this — there's no wrong path," Shapiro said. "There's only your path. There are many avenues to success. And we've got to respect — and support — all of them." Shapiro spoke directly to the 338 West Scranton High School graduates, their parents and teachers and staff, reminding the graduates that they represent the opportunity to chart their own course and succeed in Pennsylvania. The ceremony was held at the Lackawanna College Student Union building in Scranton. Since day one, Shapiro said he has worked to open doors of opportunity for all Pennsylvanians, no matter their path. On his first day in office, the governor said he signed an executive order announcing that 92% of state government jobs are open to Pennsylvanians without a college degree — and since then, nearly 60% of the Commonwealth's new hires do not have a four-year degree. Shapiro said he also made historic investments in public education — creating real opportunity for students, supporting teachers and school staff and delivering results across the Commonwealth. The governor said he has secured more than $2 billion in additional funding for K-12 public education — the largest investment in Pennsylvania history. And just two days earlier, the governor was in Berwick to announce that Amazon is planning to invest at least $20 billion to establish multiple high-tech cloud computing and artificial intelligence innovation campuses across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He said this initial investment from Amazon will create thousands of good-paying, stable jobs as Pennsylvania workers build, maintain, and operate the first two data center campuses — one in Luzerne County and another in Bucks County. Shapiro said this marks the largest private sector investment in the history of Pennsylvania. In his address, Shapiro said the students are key to Pennsylvania's future. "We have literally invested in your success," Shapiro said. "That is money very well spent. And you more than held up your end of the deal — you studied hard, tried new things, and accomplished a ton. And now, you're about to set out on your journey through life, stronger because of your West Scranton education." Shapiro said his administration has increased funding for vo-tech, career and technical education and apprenticeships, while investing in making college more affordable. "Consider this — right here at West, nearly 60 students from your graduating class completed classes at the Scranton-Lackawanna CTC," Shapiro said. "They studied everything from automotive and culinary arts to nursing and robotics. And 22% of your classmates here today — nearly 80 students — are going to take the skills they learned and go straight into the workforce. Another 10% are going to trade school; 8 of you are going into the military to serve our nation; and about half of you are going to college." Shapiro told the graduates that they are a great representation of the diversity of opportunities available here in Pennsylvania. "Each of you — no matter what path you choose — has the opportunity to be successful," he said. "And so if you remember only one thing from our time here today — remember that your governor showed up at your graduation because he gives a damn about you and asked you to blaze your own path. Chart your own course and follow your own gut. Live your own failures and find your own success." The Governor shares his story "When I graduated high school, my dream was to go to college, play on the basketball team, study pre-med, and then become a doctor — or maybe even be good enough to play professional basketball," Shapiro said. Anker recalls a million power banks over fire risk — here's what to do
Anker is recalling more than a million of its PowerCore 10000 power banks due to a risk of overheating that could lead to fire and burns. The tech company has received 19 reports of fires and explosions linked to the power bank, which contains lithium-ion batteries. Two of the reports relate to minor burn injuries and required medical attention, while a further 11 reports cite property damage totaling more than $60,000, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Recommended Videos Affected units — about 1,158,000 in all — were sold online in the U.S. by Anker, Amazon, Newegg, and Ebay from June 2016 through December 2022 for about $27. Anyone who owns a recalled PowerCore 10000 power bank is urged to stop using it immediately and to take steps to receive a free replacement. What to do If you have Anker's PowerCore 10000 power bank, here's what you need to know: – First, check the model number. Only certain units are affected, specifically those with the model number A1263, which you'll find printed on the bottom of the device. – If you have a faulty unit, you can get a replacement. To receive it, you won't be asked to send the power bank to Anker. Instead, you'll need to submit a photo of the recalled unit that shows the model number, serial number, your name, the date the photo was taken, and the word 'recalled' written on the power bank in permanent marker. Anker has detailed instructions on its website explaining exactly how to apply. – A purchase receipt will be requested but will not be required to participate in the recall. – Whatever you do, don't throw your faulty power bank in the trash. Recalled lithium-ion batteries have to be carefully disposed of as they present a greater risk of fire. Your municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center may accept it — get in touch to find out. Consumers will be required to confirm safe disposal of the power bank before receiving a replacement.
