Florida Republican foresees Trump-Musk reconciliation
Rep. Jimmy Patronis (R-Fla.) said President Trump and Elon Musk's feud wouldn't last for long, noting that the Republican Party and the president's allies are all a part of 'one big family.'
Musk in recent days has criticized the president's budget bill over its effects on the national debt, which the tech billionaire says 'undermines' the work he completed at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The fight reached a fever pitch this week, with the two exchanging harsh words on social media.
But as the spat continues, Patronis said he believes the two will soon reconcile.
'I don't know how many times I've seen Donald Trump throw [Sen.] Lindsey Graham [(R-S.C.)] out by the side of the street and say the guy's crazy. But then you know what? The next week they're playing golf together. This is no different,' Patronis said during a Friday appearance on NewsNation's 'The Hill,' referencing the president's sometimes fraught relationship with the South Carolina lawmaker.
'Trump knows that sometimes you're going to have falling out with those that you trust, you like, that you're friends with. It happens with us in D.C. all the time. So again. Mark my words. About a month from now, these guys will be hanging around again,' he added.
The Florida lawmaker also poured cold water on Musk's recent proposal to launch a third party to challenge.
'Elon Musk is not gonna create a new new political party,' he told NewsNation.
On Friday, Musk floated 'The America Party' as a potential new political faction after posting a poll for his followers to weigh in on the social media platform X the day prior.
'I appreciate what Elon Musk has done with DOGE. He's brought things to light that we're going to act upon in Congress. But the end of the day, the only friends I look at making in Washington DC [are] probably my wife and my kids,' Patronis said.
'The friends I care about are the ones in Congressional District 1 … and they elected Donald Trump,' he added. 'They did not elect Elon Musk.'

Trump warns Musk will face ‘serious consequences' if he backs Democrats
President Donald Trump vowed his former friend Elon Musk will face 'very serious consequences' should he choose to support the Democratic party following their very public feud. Trump delivered the warning in an interview with NBC News, during which he also said he had 'no intention of speaking to' the tech billionaire any time in the near future, citing the online threats and insults he hurled in recent days. 'I'm too busy doing other things,' Trump said Saturday. 'I think it's a very bad thing, because he's very disrespectful,' he added. 'You could not disrespect the office of the president.' Asked directly whether he believes their relationship to be permanently over, Trump replied: 'I would assume so, yeah.' The world's richest man backed Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the 2024 election, shelling out nearly $300 million in a bid to land them in the White House. In the months following their win, Musk cemented himself by Trump's side, appearing at press conferences, parties and public events, while professing his 'love' for the president. But relations ruptured between the pair on Tuesday, when Musk ripped into the Republicans' 'Big, Beautiful' budget bill aimed at enacting much of Trump's agenda. Trump warns Musk against supporting Democrats
US President Donald Trump warned tech billionaire Elon Musk of "very serious consequences" if he were to support Democrats in the future following their public falling-out. "He'll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that," Trump told NBC News in a phone interview set to air on Sunday. However Trump declined to share what those consequences might be should Musk support Democratic candidates to harm Republicans who voted for the president's tax and budget bill. The budget bill this week triggered the public dispute between Musk, the world's richest man, and Trump, the world's most powerful one. Musk is demanding far greater spending cuts and called the bill "a disgusting abomination." Trump refers to it as the "big beautiful bill." Since Thursday, Musk and Trump have been engaged in an open mudslinging match after months of unusually close cooperation. Trump does not want to reconcile with Musk In the NBC interview, Trump was asked whether he believed his relationship with Musk, who owns the social media platform X, the electric car company Tesla and the space voyage firm SpaceX, was over. "I would assume so, yeah," Trump said. He also reiterated that he was not interested in reconciling with Musk, saying he was too busy with other matters. "I have no intention of speaking to him." On Thursday, the brewing feud between the two powerful men exploded with Trump calling Musk "crazy" and Musk claiming that if it weren't for him, Trump would have lost the presidential election last year.
