Babar Azam Nears History, Just One Hundred Shy Of Saeed Anwar's ODI Record
Babar Azam is all set to level Saeed Anwar's record for most ODI centuries by a Pakistani batter as Pakistan face the Windies in Trinidad.
Ace Pakistan batter Babar Azam is on the verge of creating history, to become the batter with the most ODI hundreds from his country, as he eyes former opener Saeed Anwar's 22-year-old record. Pakistan will take on the Windies in the first of three ODIs on Friday in Trinidad.
While Babar has 19 ODI hundreds, Anwar finished his career with 20, the most for a Pakistani batter. If the former scores even one century in three matches, he will level Anwar's long-standing record.
Anwar scored 20 hundreds in 244 innings, while Babar has already notched up 19 hundreds in 128 innings. The latter will also become the fastest to achieve the feat.
Most ODI hundreds by Pakistan batters
Saeed Anwar: 20 centuries
Babar Azam: 19 centuries
Mohammad Yousuf: 15 centuries
Fakhar Zaman: 11 centuries
South Africa's Hashim Amla holds the record for the fastest to 20 ODI hundreds, reaching the landmark in just 108 innings.
Fastest to 20 ODI hundreds
Hashim Amla (South Africa) – 108 innings
Virat Kohli (India) – 133 innings
AB de Villiers (South Africa) – 175 innings
Rohit Sharma (India)- 183 innings
Sachin Tendulkar (India)- 197 innings
Babar, ranked No. 2 in the ICC ODI rankings, makes his return after a brief break. However, with Fakhar Zaman sidelined because of injury, it remains to be seen whether Pakistan will once again promote Babar to open the innings.
Recent reports suggested that Mike Hesson advised Babar, the former skipper and a key figure in Pakistan's T20I setup, to develop an additional skill to strengthen his case for a spot at the top of the order, that of a wicketkeeper, but those were quashed by Hesson later.

WTC latest points table after New Zealand thrashes Zimbabwe, India's current position is...
New Zealand's overwhelming victory over Zimbabwe in Bulawayo by an innings and 359 runs grabbed attention for its dominance but does not affect the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 points table, and thus has no direct impact on India's current position. This is due to Zimbabwe's exclusion from the WTC cycle, despite being a full member of the ICC. Only the top nine Test teams as of March 31, 2018, were eligible to compete in the tournament when it started in 2019. Afghanistan, Ireland, and Zimbabwe were left out and are still not part of the competition. The nine participating teams in the tournament are Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. India ranks third on the WTC points table With a points percentage of 46.67, India ranks third on the WTC table after the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy series. With 43.33, England is in fourth place, just behind. With a perfect 100 points from their first games, Australia holds the top spot, followed by Sri Lanka with 66.67. At this point, New Zealand's outcome has no bearing on India. The WTC 2025–27 campaign, which starts in December with a three-Test home series against the West Indies, has not yet begun for the Kiwis, who won the first 2019–21 cycle. New Zealand secured overwhelming victory over Zimbabwe But the Bulawayo match was historic. After declaring themselves at 601 for three, New Zealand easily defeated Zimbabwe twice, with Zak Foulkes taking five wickets in the second innings to secure the third-largest innings victory in Test history. Although this won't affect the current WTC standings, performances like this serve as a reminder that when New Zealand enters the competition, they could become one of India's toughest challengers on the way to the 2027 final.

Chennai Grandmasters Day 4: Erigaisi Passes Up Chance To Capitalise On Keymer Draw
Last Updated: Nihal Sarin stunned Arjun Erigaisi to pick up his first win of the day as Vincent Keymer held on to his lead despite being held to a draw by Anish Giri. Arjun Erigaisi failed to take advantage of Vincen Keymer's draw against Anish Giri as the Indian went down to compatriot Nihal Sarin, who picked up his first win of the Chess Grandmasters 2025 on Day 4 of the event on Sunday. Erigaisi, who began the day half a point behind the German leader, had the chance to go on level with Keymer in the Masters category; however, Sarin rained on Erigaisi's party as the youngster pulled off the biggest surprise of the event yet as he handed Erigaisi his first defeat of the series. As a result, Keymer still stands alone on top of the roster with three and a half points to his name after the conclusion of four games in the nine-match round robin event, while Arjun stands at two and a half. Robson took his tally to two points, as did Giri, Awonder and Gujrathi. Karthikeyan's win took him on level with points while Pranav took his tally to a point and a half, mimicking Sarin's count. The all-American clash between Liang Awoder and Ray Robson finished up with the overseas players splitting the points two ways, as did the all-Indian pairing of Pranav V and Vidit Gujrathi. Karthikeyan Murali also registered a win over Dutchman Jorden Van Foreest to take his tally to two points in twice as many fixtures. Abhimanyu Purnik's winning run in the Challengers section continued as he got the beating of Vaishali, as Harika Dronavalli's disappointing run continued as she slumped to her third defeat in four games, as Leon Luke Mendoca outwitted the seasoned campaigner. Iniyan Pa beat Aryan Chopra, while Diptayan Ghosh pulled out all the stops to edge out Harshavardhan GB. The only challenger game that ended in a draw was the fixture between Adhiban B and Pranesh M, as the duo shared the spoils. Sourav Ganguly Calls India 'Favourites' For Asia Cup 2025: 'Beating Them...'
Last Updated: Sourav Ganguly believes India are favourites for 2025 Asia Cup starting September 9 in Dubai. India will face UAE, Pakistan and Oman in Group A. Sourav Ganguly feels the Indian men's cricket team would be the favourites for the upcoming T20 Asia Cup in Dubai starting September 9. 'They are in the middle of a break. After the IPL, they played five Tests and now they will play the Asia Cup from September 9," Gangul was quoted as saying by PTI. 'India are very strong, and if they are strong in red-ball cricket, they are even stronger in white-ball cricket. So, in my opinion, India are favourites, and beating them on those good Dubai wickets will be very tough." What Is The Schedule For 2025 Asia Cup? India will play its Asia Cup Group A games against UAE and the high-stakes clash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 10 and 14, respectively, while its match against Oman is scheduled at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 19. India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman are in Group A, while Group B consists of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. This is the first time the Asia Cup, held in the T20I format to prepare teams for the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, will feature eight teams. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Fours stage, with the top two facing each other in the title clash in Dubai on September 28. India are the defending champions of the Asia Cup, having beaten Sri Lanka in the 2023 final held in the 50-over format in Colombo. Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup in the T20I format after defeating Pakistan in the final in 2022.
