Addison Rae Says Her 'Goal' for Debut Album 'Addison' Was for It to Feel Like an 'R-Rated Libby Lu'
Rae, who grew up in Louisiana, said she's a "southern girl at my core"
Rae released her debut album on Friday, June 6Addison Rae had a vision for her debut album — and it pays tribute to her childhood.
During a recent appearance on Therapuss with Jake Shane, Rae, 24, revealed that her debut LP Addison was influenced by her favorite store growing up: Club Libby Lu.
"The whole goal for the album is for it to feel like R-Rated Libby Lu," Rae who grew up in Louisiana, said.
"Libby Lu essentially is like this makeover spot for kids, and I would go there when I was little," she told host Jake Shane. "I've posted photos here before, and it was really cute."
Rae — who said she's a "southern girl at my core" — was living in Houston in middle school when she first walked inside a Libby Lu. Now, she associates it with feelings of nostalgia.
Club Libby Lu was an experience-based retailer for young girls, which was popularized for hosting dress-up and makeover parties. Their parent company, Saks Fifth Avenue, completed its closure in 2009.
Rae released her self-titled debut album on Friday, June 6.
During an interview on Quen Blackwell's YouTube series Feeding Starving Celebrities, she opened up about the record.
Rae thought about self-titling the album "for a really long time," noting, "when you do hear all of the music like straight through, there's not really a title that like encompasses all of it."
'Everybody that I played it to as well they were just like, 'Oh it just sounds like just like you. Like it just sounds like music you would make,'' she recalled. 'I don't really know what else to call it and so I was like, 'Maybe then the album is just my name.'"
To celebrate the release of her LP, Rae took over iconic nightclub The Box in New York City on Thursday, June 5 for a live performance in partnership with Spotify.
At the show, she delivered a high-concept production complete with multiple costumes, intricate choreography with backup dancers and reimagined versions of her tracks.
At the end of the set, Rae's dancers brought glasses of champagne on stage for a toast "to the beginning."
"Thank you for being here with us tonight," said Rae. "Now, go get drunk and have fun!"

YouTube hits play on bid to broadcast the Oscars
Every good Oscar race needs a dark horse nominee, even the race to own the Oscars itself. YouTube has presented itself as that very out-of-left-field pick, Bloomberg reports. While ABC will air the ceremony through 2028—as it has done for decades at this point—the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences is currently in the middle of negotiations about the future of Hollywood's biggest night. If YouTube had its druthers, that night would also be small enough to fit right inside its little video player. As other streamers scoop up live rights left and right, YouTube has also shown an increased interest in the space. YouTube TV recently acquired exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, and Bloomberg points out that the streamer also made a big deal of just how many people watched Taylor Swift's album announcing appearance on the Kelce brother's New Heights podcast last week. (Approximately 13 million people tuned in within 24 hours, Variety reports.) YouTube snatching the Oscars would be a shock, but it also makes a sort of sense. Nominations are already announced via a livestream on the platform, as they are with most award shows these days. Other film-specific awards like the Independent Spiritm Awards are already using the platform to broadcast their ceremonies. Bloomberg also points out that YouTube is 'the single most-watched video platform in the world' and would almost certainly deliver eyeballs after viewership for ABC's broadcast dipped for the first time in four years this March. Still, nothing has been decided as of this writing, and other competitors have their own standard cable networks or connections to major studios to sweeten the pot. ABC will almost certainly make a bid to extend its contract, and Bloomberg reports that NBCUniversal, Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount are also hovering. We'll see who wins the big one in the coming months and years. More from A.V. YouTube Adds ‘Trim Silence' Option to Podcast Playback
This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. With podcasts on the rise on YouTube, this could be a welcome addition for the app. As reported by Android Police, YouTube has added a new 'Trim Silence' option for podcasts, which will give users the option to remove gaps within the playback of a podcast recording. As you can see in these screenshot examples, some YouTube users are now seeing a new 'Trim Silences' toggle in its podcast playback options, which, when enabled, will 'skip stretches of silence during episodes.' Android Police reports that the functionality doesn't make the audio sound choppy or unnatural, and can add a more streamlined feel to podcast playback. The feature replicates a similar option that was added to Google podcasts years back, providing another option for podcast engagement, based on your personal preferences. And with many people listening to podcasts in faster speeds in order to consume more information, it could be another handy consideration for YouTube's podcast platform. Which, as noted, is becoming increasingly popular. Back in February, YouTube reported that podcasts now see over a billion monthly active viewers in the app every month, making it the most frequently used service for listening to podcasts in the U.S. YouTube's audio-only listening experience (for Premium subscribers), combined with the rising number of celebrity–led podcasts (including many YouTube stars), along with supplemental video elements, have seen more and more people turning to the platform for the latest pod content, and have helped drive a whole new engagement segment in the app. As such, adding more customization options for podcast playback makes sense, providing more ways for YouTube users to engage with podcast material as they choose. YouTube hasn't confirmed plans for a broader rollout for its silence trimming element as yet, but it looks to be available to a selection of users right now. We've asked YouTube for more information on the option, and we'll update this post if/when we hear back.
