Albuquerque
July 18 ART N TACOS – Starting at 7:30 p.m., see this traveling art show and taco party featuring over 20 artists, tons of tacos, live music, and good vibes.
July 18 Albuquerque Backpack Giveaway – 1,000 free backpacks stuffed with school supplies will be given away at this indoor event. Students must be present to receive a backpack. Quantities are limited and will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. This event starts at 4 p.m.
July 18 Selena Night at ABQ Food Park – Get ready for a night full of love, music, flavor, and fun. With karaoke, a costume contest, live DJ, vendors, food trucks, this free event starts at 5 p.m.
July 19 Route 66 Summerfest – Celebrate the kick-off of Route 66's Centennial with this free community event featuring multiple stages full of local bands, food trucks, and more. This edition of the concert series takes over a mile-long stretch on Central Ave. from Girard Blvd. to Washington St. This event is from 5 to 10 p.m.
July 19 Downtown Growers' Market – Visit Albuquerque's longest-running farmers' market for the largest selection of local farmers providing fresh produce, eggs, honey, meats, local goods, hot prepared foods on-site, and handmade art, crafts, and body care products. Every Saturday from April to mid-November, enjoy live music starting at 10 a.m.
July 19 Winrock Artisan Market – Visit Winrock Park every Saturday for a one-of-a-kind market experience. This market is pet-friendly, with local artisans, food trucks, live entertainment, and family fun. It starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m.
July 19 Kids Day at Mama's Minerals – Kids of all ages can enjoy gold panning, mineral digs, prospecting, rock painting, slime station, oobleck demonstration, temporary tattoos, and a free geode from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
July 19 Lavender Soiree – This lavender-infused, four-course fundraising dinner celebrates community and cuisine in the heart of Los Ranchos. Tickets are $150 per person, and all proceeds support the mission of Rio Grande Community Farm, helping grow agriculture, education, and community in the North Valley. The dinner is from 5 to 9 p.m.

July 19 Cabezon Park's Shop Local Market – The city of Rio Rancho invites local vendors to sell homemade or homegrown products to the community from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

🔶 Storehouse New Mexico holds 'Knock Hunger Out of the Park' food drive – The 'Knock Hunger Out of the Park' food drive is being put on by Sandia Area Federal Credit Union and is supporting Storehouse New Mexico food pantry.
🔶 Funding for farming internship program at APS in jeopardy – A group of Albuquerque Public Schools' students has been spending the summer on a farm as part of an internship that helps them and the community – but funding for the program could be in jeopardy.
🔶 UNM duck pond to reopen soon – One of the University of New Mexico's best attractions is almost ready to reopen. The university's duck pond has been under construction since November of last year to upgrade its aging infrastructure. Recently, they replaced the bridge and added a water filtration system.
🔶 UNM begins to upgrade video board at University Stadium – UNM Athletics said it plans to use $11 million in capital outlay funds from the state to transform University Stadium. One of the improvements, which has already started, is replacing the north end zone video board.
🔶 Albuquerque Community Safety opens second location on the westside – Four years after the city launched Albuquerque Community Safety, the department is seeing a big expansion with the goal of decreasing field response time. 40% of calls for service are on the west side, and the city has opened a second headquarters for ACS on 98th St. near Tower Rd.
🔶 Sandia National Labs builds mobile high-security vault – A team at Sandia National Laboratories has developed a mobile, high-security vault that can be deployed to protect the nation's most sensitive assets in remote or temporary locations where there is no secure storage.
🔶 Watch 'Night at the Museum' under the wings at the Nuclear Museum – The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is inviting the community out to watch a movie under the wings. On August 23, guests can watch the 2006 film 'Night at the Museum' among historic aircraft at the museum's Heritage Park.
🔶 Renovations complete at an Albuquerque park – A playground in Albuquerque has some new improvements following the completion of a renovation project.
🔶 13 responders graduate in latest Albuquerque Community Safety class – Another class of Albuquerque Community Safety responders is ready to serve Albuquerque. A graduation ceremony was held Monday at the Albuquerque Museum, where city officials recognized the graduates. These trained professionals will respond to mental and behavioral health crises, connecting people with the care they need while also freeing up police and EMS.

🔶 New Mexico's fair season is coming. Check out events happening across the state – The 2025 New Mexico fair season is right around the corner, and with that comes county fairs, regional fairs, and the state fair.
🔶 Tax extension offered to individuals and businesses affected by Ruidoso floods – The Taxation and Revenue Department is offering a deadline extension for taxpayers who have been impacted by the Ruidoso floods in Lincoln County. Various business tax returns with the normal due dates of July 25 and Aug. 25 can now be filed by Oct. 27 without penalty.
🔶 Land access near Holloman Air Force Base to temporarily close due to PFAS levels – To protect the public from potential PFAS exposure, land surrounding the Holloman Evaporation Pond near the Holloman Air Force Base will temporarily close starting Aug. 14.
🔶 Curbside debris pickup available in Lincoln County – Lincoln County residents who are cleaning up after flooding in the area can get their trash picked up curbside.
🔶 Applications for New Mexico Young Ambassadors program due by August 15 – High schoolers have one more month to apply for a leadership position to help the governor with her goal of keeping New Mexico clean and natural. Kids entering their junior or senior year of high school can spend the school year helping their community stay litter-free.
🔶 Albuquerque crew to help with mosquito control in Ruidoso amid flooding – A crew with the City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department is being sent to Ruidoso on Tuesday to help with mosquito control amid historic flooding in the area. The decision comes after the crew initially went on standby last Friday.
🔶 'Bringing our research community together': Quantum Week to come to Albuquerque – Quantum seems to be all over the headlines when it comes to tech, and as previously reported in 'New Mexico Frontiers,' there's a big push to make the Land of Enchantment one of the nation's quantum hubs. Coming up at the end of August, those interested in learning more about the technology will have a week-long opportunity to see what all the buzz is about.
🔶 Livestock evacuated from Oak Ridge Fire return home – The livestock evacuated during a wildfire on the Navajo Nation have returned home. The Window Rock Fairgrounds took in more than 300 animals, like horses, cattle, sheep, and pigs, after the Oak Ridge Fire broke out near the New Mexico-Arizona state line. That fire burned more than 11,000 acres. As of Tuesday morning, it is 96% contained.
🔶 New Mexico law enforcement leaders demand stricter juvenile crime laws – Demanding action from state lawmakers, prosecutors and New Mexico's top law enforcement leaders say the time is now to change the state's juvenile crime laws. Albuquerque has grabbed headlines for problems with juvenile crime, but on Tuesday, police chiefs from all over the state said they're seeing the same problems.
🔶 Mescalero Fish Hatchery loses 80% of its fish due to flooding – After Monday's devastating floods, the Mescalero Fish Hatchery has lost 80% of its fish. They say that despite this setback, their dedicated staff has been working nonstop to salvage what remains.
